1. False pretexts and a false causis belli
Dror ,   Haifa, Israel   (08.28.13)
Once again the people of Israel are expected to be the suckers.. In the latest example, the Wall Street Journal reports that the Obama administration told UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon that “there wasn’t adequate security for the U.N. inspectors to visit the affected areas to conduct their mission,” a clear warning (or a blatant threat) that inspectors should pull out entirely. It was announced today that inspectors had postponed their work until Wednesday for “safety” reasons. This warning followed an incident, almost certainly the work of US-backed rebels, where a convoy of UN vehicles was fired upon by a sniper, causing the inspectors to temporarily suspend their work. Rebels have repeatedly acted with hostility against UN workers and peacekeepers, with one FSA group kidnapping 21 peacekeepers back in March. While discouraging the UN from completing its investigation, the US and Britain have already declared that last week’s attack involved the use of chemical weapons and that it was the work of Bashar Al-Assad’s forces, despite numerous other examples where rebels have prepared and used chemical weapons themselves. Even when Syria allowed UN inspectors to enter the affected region, the Obama administration responded that it was “too late,” and that the evidence could have been destroyed – so why bother investigating at all?
2. "A drowning man is not afraid to get wet."
Jonathan   (08.28.13)
More precisely, a drowning man, should try to save oxygen, so keep quiet. What a crazy logic: "If the US tells me not to gas my own people, I will shoot missiles to Israel". A real peace ally.... Not !
3. Well that's just great!
Ilan ,   Ramat Gan, Israel   (08.28.13)
if anyone had uncertainties about an attack on Syria, they're all gone now! better all this now i guess than after with an nuclear armed Iran!
4. We all know this is no good
David ,   On this planet   (08.28.13)
No body likes war , but this could be the answer to our constant battle. Let's once for all fix the So called Palestinian problem, Syrian, Levanon, and Iranian so we can have a normal life for us and our children.Be ezrat ha Shem and zahal we will win.
5. Assad and empty rambling
Soter   (08.28.13)
I wonder wheres Syrian "Uncle Bob" ? His rockets will never leave the ground, will most likely have his radars and communications bombed before he can give any order. Sore loser.
6. Any attack on Syria must include its chemical facilties,
Barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (08.28.13)
its chemical weapons unit, launch facilities and air force - all at one time. If the NATO forces are not completely aggressive, then all is lost and useless.
7. 6 Barbara, agree
CJK   (08.28.13)
you are absolutely correct, but I fear that the golf president will not do it.
8. Assad logic
CJK   (08.28.13)
if the west attacks me, i'll attack israel; and if Israel retaliates, i'll go further since i have nothing to lose. assad's logic got him where he is today. he could have made a deal with the early rebels but he thought, what for, i'll win anyway. assad is an extremely stupid man and a psychopath.
9. many people say it is better to have the secular assad
CJK   (08.28.13)
many people say that it is better to have the secular assad than to have the islamists. all of these people forget that hitler, stalin, mao, all the kim's were secular.
10. #7,#6
Beary White ,   Norway   (08.28.13)
Yeah, agree halfway. But I hardly think an Islamic president will attack his comrades too hard.!! But he will do it hard enough just to ignite Syria to attack Israel..and get read of Bibi..
11. Obama is apparently preparing a quicky wishy washy strike
CJK   (08.28.13)
that would be very typical of him. he does not know what to do, nor has the courage to do a proper job, so he will fire a few missiles and then go play golf or give a speech he might as well not do anything. in such a case, israel will be attacked and will be left to absorb all of the casualties and finish the job of the cowards of the west and the evil hypocrites among the arabs.
12. poor rebels...?
orli ,   Jerusalem   (08.28.13)
am I the only one who wonders why we should believe all of the information that the rebels feed us? Does anyone remember the 'photos' of the 'massacres' in Jenin???
13. I very much doubt assad has used them again
zionist forever   (08.28.13)
Right now Assad is worried about Obamas planned attack so he is not going to use chemical weapons again so soon but I imagine the rebels will be claiming chemical weapons use every 5 minutes to pressure Obama to go in all guns blazing and topple Assad for them. Right now Obama will be hoping to make the action he takes as small scale as possible just to satisfy international demands he doesn't want to large, expensive and politically risky operation. The idealistic president of 2008 is long gone now he is your typical politician worrying about himself and he knows if just one thing goes wrong it will be the end of his political career. Obama is going to launch missiles at military targets, if Assad is smart he will just make lots of threats and speeches but be passive so as not to escalate things and end things as soon as possible.
14. #9 CJK
Albrecht Klein ,   Germany   (08.28.13)
Germany, Russia, China, and North Korea weren't Islamic countries. So what do you want to tell us?
15. Amazing how the Arab world keeps shtum
Talula ,   Israel   (08.28.13)
Syria and Iran need to be wiped of the global map - they are the root of all evil in the world today.
16. #9 many people forget that Assad hasn't fired a single
Gabor ,   Budapest, Hungary   (08.28.13)
rocket at Israel, even during the 2nd Lebanon War when Israel had the chance to eliminate Hezbollah, but didn't, mainly because of the incompetent leaders.
17. killing 2 birds
Arn ,   Yehud, Israel   (08.28.13)
I'm just afraid that the more Syria promises to attack Israel the more will the European countries - and possibly Obama as well - be encouraged to attack Syria. For them it's killing 2 birds with one stone..
18. 10 Beary White, yes
CJK   (08.28.13)
us envoy feltman is in tehran. that means that the wee wee will let iran get nuclear weapons. he will just fire a few missiles into syria and let israel absorb all of the casualties and finish the job. then israel will be surrounded on all sides. he will cut off aid to egypt, enraging the military. but he will not get rid of netanyahu. he would need a magic wand to do that.
19. Arab League? UN ?
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (08.28.13)
If there are crimes against humanity let the Arab League sort out Syria. Let the UN sort out Syria. It should not be left to the USA , UK and France to solve the world's problems. Russia and China appear to support Assad's regime. Let them step in and call an end to the crimes.
20. #6 - Attacking chemical locations will kill thousands
spyguy ,   seattle   (08.28.13)
possibly including you depending on the winds. The ONLY way to decommission chemical facilities is to have a massive number of troops on the ground so the scientists can neutralize the chemicals in a safe manner. Blowing up chemical facilities just get thousands gassed. Any attack on the chemical facilities will make the Bhopal disaster look like a picnic in the park.
21. aljazeera is sucks and liar
adam adam ,   earth planet   (08.28.13)
the worst channel and the most incitement against people ...down-with aljazeera
22. 11
zionist forever   (08.28.13)
Of course Obama wants a quick wishy washy strike which is the way it needs to be. If the US gets to deeply involved at this point there is going ti be huge international pressure on Obama to send in the troops and act as policemen if there is ethnic and religious killing going on in which the only people being murdered are civilians. Obama will not be able to do things by half measures if he commits himself. A wishy washy half hearted operation just so Obama can say to the rest of the world I did my bit and let the civil war carry on business as usual. If the US tries to bring Assad then there is a risk of chemical weapons falling into terrorist hands because the sites will no longer be protected by Assads people and unless Obama wants to put men on the ground to take control of those sites then best to keep Assad in control. If Obama goes for all out war then it will almost certainly result in Assad firing missiles on Israel possibly with chemical weapons go down in a blaze of glory. He might also start using the chemical weapons against the Syrians on a large scale firing them from scuds and tank and mortar shells so an operation that was designed to be in retaliation for one incident may result in the wide scale use of it and deaths of thousands. Obama's problem is he didn't do something at a much earlier stage. If within the first 6 months or so when it became obvious this was going to be dragged out so he should have whilst he had a chance tried to negotiate a deal leaving Assad in charge for stability but with his powers much reduced, in that situation would have been able to have a gradual and stable transfer of powers. The longer it went on and more people killed the harder it became for anybody on either side to do deals.
23. 14, 16
CJK   (08.28.13)
14, one need not be an islamist to commit genocide or aggression. nasser was not an islamist nor was arafat. 16 he did not have to since hezbollah was doing the job for him. make no mistake, his allies, iran, hezbollah, islamic jihad are islamists. the muslim world is both more complex and pragmatic than people imagine. there are no clean lines and no logical alliances.
24. 20, provided the chemicals are mixed
CJK   (08.28.13)
usually they are not mixed until they are to be used since they get degraded.
25. To: No. 20
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.28.13)
First of all, the prevailing winds head northward this time of year. Secondly, who the hell really cares if a bunch of Arab terrorists and their followers die? Certainly not I. How about you? Do you have special feelings for those who would threaten Israel? Why? You might want to be careful answering that. Your anti-Jewish and anti-Israel sentiments have been shining through for quite some time. In fact, they are quite well documented. So we already know the answer. But I'd like to see you commit your sentiments in writing. Put it on the record. Go for it. Make it discoverable. Please. The evidence against you is quite formidable. (We may just have seen the last of "spyguy" in Seattle.) No great loss. Far too many idiots on these threads already.
26. Hey Obama, do it right or dont do it at all.
Yanky Pipchick ,   Baltimore   (08.28.13)
Sick and tired of AMERICAN SLOPPINESS!!!
27. Incrediably EVIL!
r ,   world   (08.28.13)
THAT they use chemical weapons on their own people without mercy.
28. you are all forgetting that the rebels used the chemical
weapons first. ,   dead solders 1st   (08.28.13)
29. UN
Rosie ,   Australia   (08.28.13)
After 100,000 deaths in a two year civil war and now a vile chemical attack on a civilian population, UN will no doubt continue to patiently 'wait for further proof'. No mention either, by the way, of the remarkable sniper attack on their own UN inspectors. If only they applied the same proof requirements when Israel is mentioned. UN has no credibility!
30. WAR
anonymous   (08.29.13)
why do we have to let the enemy know what we are going to do, so they go an hide everything an change theyre locations unbelievable. As far as iam concerned we need to just completly get out of the middle east we can not help these people. They kill their own people, what dont we get.
