The war was no surprise I witnessed troops being called up the day before. There is more to the story of the war that meets the eye.

5. TO LIMOR LIVNAT !

You wrote, and I quote: "We could not estimate, or even imagine, the scope of drama that will take place, but everyone's assumption was that if things are known to us abroad, then clearly everyone knows about this in Israel, and they are making every effort to prepare. The feeling of shock hit us hard. We could not understand how the State's leadership, administration, IDF and intelligence knew but did not prepare." Mrs. Livnat, you know as well as I do, the reason for it. Israel was at that time in an electoral period, and the Labor Party laid its campaign with the slogan "You never had it so good". Golda Meir putting the interests of the party above those of the state, decided to keep the situation unknown to the public, and not to mobilize the reserves, hoping the Arabs will be so kind, and will understand her difficult political situation and delay their offensive ... The rest is history, with close to 3.000 death and close to the destruction of the state of Israel.

Golda Meir refused to mobilize the reserve because the intelligence failed to understand Egypt movements, because Israel has mobilized the reserve before in may 1973 thinking that Egypt would attack, but when Egypt didnt attack, the reserve mobilization was perceived as an act of agression on behalf of Israel, so Israel didnt want to repeat the same scenario in October at the same year, so they ignored Egypt movements that time !!!! at the end of the day, Golda Meir with the help of God and the IDF were able to achieve victory over both Egypt and Syria !!!! shalom
7. Israel's leaders STILL can't connect the dots!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dejavu ,   Israel   (09.03.13)
If they had foresight they would not even THINK about giving Judea & Samaria to Arabs. Absolute mental blindness and insanity.
8. It Was a Conspiracy
Abdel Karim Salim ,   Jerusalem   (09.03.13)
Somehow I was made to know the whole Yom Kippur War of October 1973 was a pre-arranged plan that was agreed upon by five players : America,Soviet Union, Egypt, Syria, and , of course , Israel . A few months before the outbreak of that war it was known to the media the war would be very limited in scope ( regarding territorial issue ) but would be somewhat lengthy in time . Newsweek magazine issue of April 9, 1973 revealed the war plan that Sadat ( Egypt's president at that time ) had in mind ( just think of the time span between early April and early October of that year) . Also , I still vividly remember what I heard from Radio Israel broadcasting in Arabic some four or five days before the outbreak of the war ; it said that the-then chief of staff, David Elazar , " ... warned the arab countries that were amassing their armies opposite Israel and ( reminded them ) that Israel's hand could extend far ... " . The only real surprise to Israel was not the war itself but rather the harshness of the Egyptian onslaught .

I admire your knowledge of details, I am yet to catch you wrong on any historical points. You know your stuff. From an Israeli that remembers that INFAMOUS day of 10-6-1973 Israel won DESPITE it's stupid leaders. The corporals, the sergeants the young officers alike those were the heros of that war, the leadership was sickening.
10. #8 Conspiracy
Bill Stein ,   USA   (09.03.13)
My opinion I agree it was a conspiracy there are rumors that Nixon and Kissinger Sadat worked with a traitor in the Israeli goverment. That the war was planned to put pressure on the Israeli goverment to give up Sinai and to give some pride back to Egypt. Motavations also may have included on the American side to test weapons, and oil. The war was no surprise I witnessed troops being called up the day before. There is more to the story of the war that meets the eye.
11. G_D BLESS ISRAEL
Beary White ,   Norway   (09.04.13)
I was not here, I heard it on the radio news. My heart has respect for those who defended Israel, and for those mothers of the MEN and WOMEN of Israel. And for the kids and elderly who had to take shelter and for all who are still suffering..I know many do.... We have a great G_d, do not ever forget.!!
12. Today, September 4, 2013, is my brother, Zvi Yacobi, birthday
Benny Yacobi   (09.04.13)
He was supposed to be 61 years old today, but he remained 21, still buried somewhere in the sands of Sinai - and all of this because of one jerk who was in the head of the military intelligence and some dumb people in Ma'arach government, who, until their last day haven't even asked for forgiveness. May his memory, and the other victims, be Blessed.
13. #Conspiracy theory? No they are still conspiring.....
Calabi ,   Sydney Aust   (09.04.13)
Sometime stupid and sometime sick Oh the Jews conspire the Sept 11, the Jews train the Arabs to be cannibals, the Jews wrote the koran, the Jews is everything bad and suddenly the Jews control the whole world wealth. Too many "sicky" fill with hatred and conspiracy theory! Also idiots to follow and believe. Their aim is to tarnish and destroy Israel. GOD bless Israel
14. #13 conspiracy
Bill Stein ,   USA   (09.04.13)
I was there I saw troops being rounded up 18 hours before the attack I saw what I saw and will continue to try to find the truth untill my dying day. Have you ever seen who shot my father the documentary about the Murder of Joe Alon. See it before you judge me and my experience
15. @ Bill Stein. Indeed, no surprise attack
Baruch ,   Raanana, Israel   (09.08.13)
I was just a 19 y/o soldier, stationed at at the southern exit of the Suez Canal. On Friday, Oct. 5 (a day before the attack) there was an air-raid siren when an Egyptian Mig flew over our forces. We were about to fire a missile, but at the last minute we were told to hold our fire. The next morning (on Yom Kippur) we were woken early to go to the storage guy to sign for gas masks. That was several hours *before* the attack. Such a shame! So many lives could have been saved!
