1. Obama says Russian proposal on Syria 'potentially positive'
sturbo69 ,   Manila, Philippines   (09.10.13)
Russian proposal is a positive signed in order to resolve the Syrian crisis, except that the Syrian government will completely surrender the biological weapons including President Asad step down from power. Without the inclusion of Asad to step from power, the Russia and Syria will continue their business - "it just a business talk," and yet it is not punishment for those who made and killed civilians by using chemical weapons. According to intelligence report from British, French and Germany that Asad military used chemical weapons, even without the blessing of the President Asad it is still his reponsibility as a commander-in-chief.
2. won't end well
Jeff ,   USA   (09.10.13)
The Syrians will play along for a month or two until everyone puts their swords away and pats themselves on the back for "finding a peaceful, diplomatic solution," and then Assad will either start dragging his feet on it, or will pull something along the lines of "I'm happy to get rid of my chemical weapons, but in the spirit of my commitment to eradicating all the world's WMDs, I will only continue if you get the Israelis to give up their nukes."
3. Obama, keep up the pressure and do not give a millimeter
CJK   (09.10.13)
vlad putin cannot be trusted. assad is a mass murderer who wants to save his scrawny neck. these two, putin and assad, must agree to transfer all of syria's chemical weapons by latest friday of this week. the framework for the transfer must be worked out by friday. simply put, putin has to pick up those poisons within ten days and take them to mother russia, where he needs to destroy them. vlad putin and assad need to realize that this is the deal of the century. if they do not accept, assad will lose his entire air force and much of his ballistic missiles, not to mention his position as ruler of syria. obama should stop saying he does not know what he will do if this or that. he must phone putin and tell him this is his last chance or else. obama cannot allow vlad putin, assad, the republicans, the democrats, or the mob, to make a fool of him or to let a mass murderer use weapons of mass destruction.
4. Bibi ought to learn from Obama how to be flexible & creative
Michael ,   California, USA   (09.10.13)
International politics is not all about power and prestige. Naturally, the U.S. could inflict great damage on Syria and even topple Assad. But it would be a very costly affair with many casualties. Putin came up with a wise proposal which Assad is accepting, to everyone's surprise. So, Obama will join the crowd and stay on the sidelines as the civil war plays itself out in Syria. This civil war would have continued no matter what the U.S. would have done and Obama's flexibility is to be praised. International politics is about being creative and about recognizing what is good for the world as peace is attained.

Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (09.10.13)
certainly going to attempt, again, to avoid his commitments to strike Syria. The Russians have given him yet another opportunity for appeasement, and, no doubt, he will take it.
6. Little doubt, as a graduate of the Rev. J.Wright University
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (09.10.13)
of Chicago, the US President will harness this claimed new approach by the Russians in his eagerness to appease, again, the Muslim-Arab world.
7. Pussy Whipped Amateur
David H ,   Marietta USA   (09.10.13)
Pathetic, but chalk up another win for Putin and the Gang, and most certainly Iran. Obama = worthless

Western powers? no they should be called tooth less dogs.
9. 5 Jehuda
CJK   (09.10.13)
it serves absolutely no purpose to continue humiliating obama. he is president, whether we like it or not. he needs to take care of iran, a more pressing issue than assad. vlad putin wins only as long as the mullahs get their nukes. putin is not as smart as he and his fan club think. he hates the saudis, and for good reason, but he should not be willing to let iran go nuclear just to punish a bunch of camel herders who think they are royalty.
10. At #4. Au Contraire
Rube Vogel ,   Jerusalem   (09.10.13)
Actually it seems that Obama is finally learning something from Bibi. Obama's discounting of the proposal as most likely a "delaying tactic" and refusal to let up the pressure indicates he may finally have learned something about middle-east politics.
11. Putin as leader
Haya ,   Bat Yam   (09.10.13)
Putin is showing himself to be a leader in a potentially explosive situation more than Obama could ever hope to be.

ASTRONAUT ,   SC, USA   (09.10.13)
Mike, as much as you'd like to deny the truth: politics, international and other, IS absolutely about POWER, PRESTIGE, and POSTURING. Please leave your poppy-field-of-dreams behind, and face the vivid, horrifying reality of what makes politicians tick.
13. 10 Rube Fogel, quite right
CJK   (09.10.13)
obama is being forced to deal with real issues and make real decisions. he must keep his attention on iran, a much more serious issue than even assad's chemical weapons and mass murder. if assad could kill 1,400 people with chemical weapons, just imagine what the shia terror entity could do with nuclear weapons. let us keep focused and let us make sure that obama stays focused.
14. Gets Obama off the hook but will
DT ,   TA Israel   (09.10.13)
worsen things overall. Watch for Iran moving on the same track while keeping the Centrifuges spinning.

Surprising as it may seem, Obama has killed more people than Assad.
16. a silver lining
(09.10.13)
Every cloud has a silver lining Tomorrow is the anniversary of the Benghazi incident. While four Americans begged for help that never came, Obama was in Vegas. After news of their death, Obama defended Islam and arrested a film maker. Thanks to the Syria debacle, no one will ask any inconvenient questions about Benghazi.
17. Total Idiocy !.
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (09.10.13)
Obamas asking for approval from His people shows that, the People is His leader and He is none. http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-4427467,00.html And the Question of Iran and Syria, togheter with Hizbollah and possibly Hamas, can not be separated. A partial solution regarding Syria will therefore solve nothing. A Military strike must therefore be conducted agains all those four above simultaniously. Obamas search for a Diplomatic solution, have now given the Evil forces a lull of Five Years, to prepere for the military strike Obama only as a last option.has promised. Obama is an uninsightfull idiot regarding World Politic. God Bevere !. Arn.Sweden.
18. Putin and Obama - showing Statesmanship and Leadership
Tim ,   Brighton   (09.10.13)
Putins bold and imaginative proposals Obamas bold and imaginative response As for Assad? Anyone watch his pathetic interview for the US audience? If anyone singlehandedly could sway the US Public to go to war its Assad himself Appearing as a lanky, slightly bedraggled, his disturbed eyes rolling, often spitting his words...he obviously calculated that to stop any attacks on his Military rather than appearing conciliatory or sympathetic to the plight of his people in the Interview the buffoon reckoned that melodramatic and wild threats might frighten them off? Hes obviously been learning Foreign Relations from the Ahmadinejad School of Diplomacy (Whatever has happened to that Monkey Man...back to the Teheran Zoo?) Though ironically wasn't it Ahmadinejads Groupies who laughingly gave Assad the Name 'The Syrian Giraffe'?
19. question to #3
(09.10.13)
Clearly no one trusts the Russians who support Assad, so tell me, what would happen if Putin asked Obama to send American forces to secure the chemical weapons? Would Obama refuse this generous offer to get exactly what he wants? Or would Obama send American soldiers to guard the weapons?
20. Obama doesn't like stalling
Devorah   (09.10.13)
Ok. Then 'fess up about your negligence re Benghazi which will be a year tomorrow. Tell us why you allowed Americans to die on purpose. You're no better than Assad.
21. 15 total nonsense
