The UN General Assembly issued a resolution, the text of which explicitly calls it a "RECOMMENDATION", recommending the establishment of 2 states, one Arab and one Jewish, and international corpus separatum. The Arabs rejected it, the British refused to implement it, and the UNSC refused to adopt it, passing instead Res. 44, urging the General Assembly to go back and reconsider. My sense is the likelyhood of this "america has israels back....unconditionally" will degrade as the economy degrades. If Obamacare passes, the economy will not flourish. Syria will become a trap. Bill Stein I your post is at least one step ahead (though it is just my humble opinion) of most talkbacks I read here. Those are just in flat denial and in contrast you are regarding this as a serious issue worth putting thought in (maybe from your perspective to generate options to counter a threat - i think on this level one would speak of thinking over Best Alternative to a Negotiated Outcome or BATNA in terms people skillful in negotiations would use). Though for a feasible alternative option to negotiations, i wish you more wisdom - South Africa had the means to pay for it's own security and defence and they managed to sit out a few decades even (though for a economy significantly smaller in economy and size imagine the sacrifice in economic terms alone one would have to make even if it would be possible to foot that bill - hardly any disposable income and sacrifice of the economy that goes with it - in any case there will be a steep price). This is not take all and leave the rest with nothing - there won't be a take all (not in your option as far as i can tell). So my guess you need to think of a better one. Another poster raised alliances with Russia (not oil dependent - does tolerate force to a certain extend the West would regard immoral) - another poster crossed that option off perhaps.
