1. An obviously ridiculous pronouncement by this Saudi cleric
Runner1993 ,   USA   (09.29.13)
lmiting the freedom of women. Pronouncements by some haredi rabbis in Israel limiting the freedom of women are also obviously ridiculous.
2. Instead of making obviously stupid remarks
spyguy ,   seattle USA   (09.29.13)
Why don't the Saudi men just tell the truth that women driving damages the fragile Saudi male ego instead of just making stuff that makes the men look dumber than rocks. .
3. Honestly
Jenny ,   NY USA   (09.29.13)
wow. talk about misogyny... remove females and populate their country with more camels....
4. Utter ignorance rules.
A Jerusalemite ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (09.29.13)
5. What Sick Liar's?
(09.29.13)
If moslems lie about women driving in saudi, WHY would anyone believe tehran Isn't Trying To build A Nuclear Bomb? Moral of the story No One Can Take A moslem at their word!!!
6. Why not to say the truth about preventing road accidents?
Ivan ,   Haifa   (09.29.13)
That´s why women should not drive.
7. Clueless
(09.29.13)
They have no clue what is coming to them. Obstacles to women driving are their dressing and are their men ready to let them dress as western women and rather learn how to cross their legs? Western women are taught to cross their legs not to open wide for one man to take four and talk about ovaries. Hahaha!!!!
8. Driving probably more harmful to men's privates
Barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (09.29.13)
than women's. Man's privates are more obvious protruding and capable of hitting steering wheel upon accident than woman's ovaries - the ovaries are inside.
9. They know what the're talking about: Muslim physique does
tom ,   tel aviv   (09.29.13)
suffer from interaction with motor vehicles: their men's brains have already been damaged, they want to spare their womenfolk.
10. They have good dentists in Saudi?
Baruch ,   Israeli   (09.29.13)
If a Saudi women driver has an accident it's more likely she will smash her ivories, and she will need a dentist and not a gaenocologist.
11. Teenagers
Danny ,   London England   (09.29.13)
As teenagers we boys were warned that tight jeans would affect our sperm count, but most of us are now grandfathers with more or less normal grandchildren. Our wives and daughters drive and seem not to suffer too much, although the Hasidic branch of Haredim do avoid women driving, for unclear reasons.
12. #1 Some facts
Ephraim ,   Jerusalem   (09.29.13)
What freedoms do you have in mind? Israeli women are fine, thanks, they don't need your help. It is curious you don't give any examples, perhaps because there are none to give. Women, especially arab women, have more freedom in Israel than in any arab country. Israeli women are equal in every way to men, so please explain your comment.
13. No, Arab cultural norms of marrying 1st cousins
Vered israel   (09.29.13)
causes problems with the children, a shocking rate of birth defects in all Arab areas, including those in Israel
14. #12: let's take a look at Haredi cultural norms:
Runner1983 ,   USA   (09.29.13)
Women are harassed by self appointed modesty squads if they don't meet some subject standard of modest dress, little girls are harassed and occasionally spit upon by haredi adults for not meeting a subjective standard of modest dress, women's images are removed from the public sphere, they're are not permitted to ride on a bus where they so choose, women have been prohibited from eulogizing their fathers and husbands at funerals, women who are leaders in their scientific and professional fields are not permitted to present research papers are meetings, etc, etc, etc, etc. I could go on and on....the source of all of this is the media and press. Do you read the press? I would never want my daughter or granddaughter to grow up or live under these medievil cultural norms. Never.
15. If all else fails,lie.
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (09.29.13)
No reasonable argument in support,no problem for an Islamist.Mendacity is always available. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
16. Runner , everything you gave as examples
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (09.29.13)
is AGAINST the Israeli laws . Women may sit where they want in public buses . The only reserved seats in buses are those for handicaped people . Harassing Women for immodest clothes is punishable , etc etc .
17. #12, #16: Boy, are you 2 guys naive!! Do you know what is
Runner1983 ,   USA   (09.30.13)
going on in your country? Haredi culurral norms dis-respect women each and every day. Haredi women have been so brainwashed they do not even realize it! If #16, all the practices I mention in my post #14 are in fact illegal, then the heardi culural norms are illegal!! But they continue in voliation of the law, and they are rarely prosecuted for breaking the law. And, as the haredi population grows faster than the non-haredo population, these issues will get worse, resuling in a bleak future for Israel.
18. Runner , Cultural norms are not LAWS
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (09.30.13)
Those norms are applied rarely , and only in a small section of the charedi world .We are living here , not in the USA . Do you know something about public transportation here ? Some of the so called haredi lines come in my town [ 79 , 179 ] There is no segregation to see in them . Runner , run away with your ignorance of facts on the ground .
19. #18 Charles: In you post # 16, you state
Runner1983 ,   USA   (09.30.13)
"everything you gave as examples is AGAINST the Israeli Laws." In post # 18, you contradict yourself and sate "Cultural norms are not laws." So which is it? You state that there is no segregation in haredi bus lines coming into your town. Fine, I will accept that. That does not mean it does not happen elsewhere. You have not all addressed the other issues I have pointed out in my post #14. As I told you one before, there are none so blind as those that refuse to see.......
20. Runner , your "brains" have run away
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (09.30.13)
You talk about "cultural norms" , and i said that "cultural norms" are NOT laws , but against the law [ in my # 14 ] You don't know anything what's going on here . It's an extrremist minority that is trying to impose their norms , and they act sometimes against the law . Those who are thousands of miles from here are not blind , but they can't see anything , and understand almost nothing .
21. Reply to 14 Haredi cultural norms
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (09.30.13)
Many of your examples are inaccurate, spewed out by a hostile media, but that's not the point. No one is required to accept Haredi cultural norms, and can walk away into the modern Orthodox, religious zionist or mainstream traditional Jewish society in Israel, as in the Diaspora. Women in Saudi do not have a choice of options, unless they leave Saudi for another society.
