I have read somewhere that HALF of those leaving Antwerp were Jews . Albert Einstein did most likely travel in better conditions as most of the others . In Poland the "red star line" also advertised in Yddish . An Antwerp painter , Eugeen van Mieghem , made many paintings of the Jewish emigrants .

It's estimated that around 9 million Jews remained in Europe before start of WWII . Those were the MOST !

This is a Belgian museum telling the history of a shipping line that transported around 2 million people from Antwerp to the USA . Not related to what happened later .

Upwards of 70,000 Jews, emigrated to Brasil (my relatives on both sides of my family included) & Argentina took in over 100,000 Jews from Europe at the turn of the 20th Century. We know about those that came to North America & their success but very little is ever mentioned about South America, where Jews became successful doctors, heads of state & industrialists, as well as celebrities in arts & media.
