Lazerbenabba ,   London, England   (09.29.13)
This comment from the FM of Iran which has given billions to both Syria and its proxy Hezbollah to not only murder over 100,000 civilians, create 2 million refugees plus the sponsorship of terrorism through out the free world. Has there ever been a more cynical and hypocritical comment anywhere? The sanctions must have some effect for this idiot to get up on his hind legs to beg for the US to reconsider its sanctions against the poor suffering innocent Iranian people. I have a better suggestion; repatriate your Al Quds brigade from its external role back to Iran, stop using what money that remains from your propagation of Islamic hate and to provide for your people. Best of all, when the Iranian students and people rise up again, I hope that Obama the useless will not leave them in the lurch as before.
3. usual sympathy grabbing iranians cant get medicine sob story
zionist forever   (09.29.13)
Killing scientists, you live by the sword you die by the sword. If these people want to help Iran develop nukes well they are fair game because without their input the nuclear program would be impossible. As for the sanctions well Iranians would be able to open a line of credit to buy medicines if their government ended its illegal nuclear weapons program ( the Shah signed the NPT ). Sanctions have been effective in hurting Iran but obviously not effective enough and now Obama needs to at least threaten Iran with the use of force rather than have friendly chats with Rohani just because the man calls himself moderate. If Rohani wants to prove he is a moderate and can be trusted then how about end financial & military support for Assad, order Hezbollah to leave Syria and stop supporting them. If Iran can give up support for terror then its a step in the right direction and maybe we can listen to what Rohani and his stooges say but until real proof of change is offered then we should not believe its anything but sweet talking and not fall into the trap. Bibi must continue to denounce Rohani as the fraud he is because if he doesn't the west will become content to bury their heads in the sand convince themselves this is a new Iran and drop sanctions and stop pushing so hard for them to end the nuclear program. Rohani was the candidate of choice for the ayatollahs who wanted a man who sounded moderate but the ayatollahs want nukes so of they want Rohani and they want nukes then it means Rohani wants nukes and he is just playing mind games with the weak Obama.

Right on Lazerbenabba, Furthermore: in 1939 Dr. Goebbels advised Hitler not to tell small lies about Jews - he would not be believed, "Tell huge lies" he said, "And the people (Germans) would eat out of your hand!" And so it happened then, and so it happens now - except the present liar is Iran and other loonies...
5. What you'd expect Khamenei's man to say
Norbus ,   JERUSALEM   (09.29.13)
Biological , Chemical , Nuclear , Fundamental Islam , all weapons of mass destruction. Man can control or limit the effect of the first three evil weapons .. The fourth is out of control , with no known antidotes, yet powerful support from the likes of Obama Zawahiri and Khamenei If no cure can be found very soon, the fourth and most virulent WMD will destroy Islam on the way to destroying civilisation as we now know it
6. Eat your uranium instead of medicines
lack of medicine?   (09.29.13)
Iran made a choice to prefer enriched uranium instead of importing medicine. They can blame only themselves.
7. The Bahrain Protocol
Icansee4miles ,   N.Y., USA   (09.29.13)
Take a good look at Iran's creation of the Shia Crescent; Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and Iran. Look at the populations of the oil fields of the Arabian Gulf; Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, which hold significant populations of Shia Muslims. Review the primary tenet of the Shia, which is not to recognize any sovereign authority except that of the Shia religion-and the Head of the Shia is the Grand Ayatollah in Iran. Look how their tentacles have extended to spreading their religion in South America,up to Mexico and the very borders of the U.S.A. Hope for the best? Better prepare for the worst. When their delaying tactics result in Iran getting its nuke, it will hold a knife to the throat of the Arabian Gulf's oil producing countries, and the New Islamic Persian Empire will be an existential threat to the entire world. The Bahrain Protocol, Amazon Kindle's new thriller spells out the truth in a gripping novel about the U.S.' withdrawal from the world stage; and if the U.S. won't protect the world, Israel will-with a surprising new partner-Saudi Arabia.

daniel ,   the world   (09.29.13)
unquestionably the united states is a military dictatorship,we are living in a fascist police state in which absolute power is concentrated in a capitalist criminal cabal that uses military and police power to dominate the people mentally and physically, criminal features of this current u.s military dictatorship include:a capitalist ruling clique increasing its militaristic imperialism operations, multi deployments resulting in military suicide rate skyrocketing, puppet put into power by a one party system, goverment informants spying on fellow citizens and the spread of militaristic values and the increasing power of the military in society, the basic political economic structure of the united states consists of the production of armaments by industry and the destruction in fabricated wars while saudi arabia receives no outright u.s military assistance,it has bought over billion of the most sophisticated u.s weapons systems,u.s weapons producers signed contracts for billion dollars,u.s contracts accounted for 50% of global sales and the u.s controlled half of the developing world arms market with billion in sales, the u.s routinely sells weapons to regimes and gross human rights abusers because the u.s military has been able to out compete all other countries in producing and selling weapons on the global market, running other countries out of business

12. A Question
Jacob Edelman ,   New York,USA   (09.29.13)
I have often wondered what makes the United States bat for Israel in a fashion that contradicts its national interests. How long would the United States subjugate its policies and interests to a small , economically dependent state that seemingly speaks the same language but acts so differently from the values that this great country holds so dear.Who can answer this simple question.
13. What FM Zarif really means
Cynthia ,   USA   (09.29.13)
He wants sanctions removed so Iran can increase oil revenues and continue to fund their nuclear program, terror groups and continue Khamenei's jihad against the west. Iran's Minister of Health resigned because the funds she needed for medicine were used for other purposes. The regime has never put the needs of their people first.
14. #12 Th answer is simple, your question
On the Balcony ,   Akko/NY/Kyiv   (09.29.13)
is based on several erroneous assumptions. Re-examine your presuppositions and you will find that your simple question has an equally simply answer. For one, Israel is not economically dependent upon the U.S -- "aid" to Israel is an indirect subsidy of the U.S.'s military-industrial complex. For another, and notwithstanding its misguided polices in the West Bank, Israel does indeed share many of the same values as the U.S. The answer to your question is that it is in the U'S''s national interest to support Israel. and that is why the U.S. does so.

Lazerbenabba ,   London, England   (09.29.13)
What you have described in your very verbose comment is an exact mirror image of Putin,s Russia with China catching up fast. Conveniently you forget to mention the reason for the US and Western nations NATO alliance is the continuing development and desire not to be left behind, is the very real fear, justifiably so of the manic ambition of Putin and to do everything to resurrect the power of the old USSR together with the even more absurd Caliphate ambitions of the Islamic nations. I for one are rather pleased that we do not let our guard down even though Obama is doing his best to subvert this by his inaction and perverse belief in the goodwill of the aforementioned. Bye the way what has your comment got to do with the article????
16. proof
shloime ,   toronto, canada   (09.30.13)
this is certainly proof that the mullahcracy is prepared to fight to the last peasant (or scientist). the message behind zarif's words is that scientists can and will be replaced, and the iranian people can starve, because the regime will continue to pursue its nuclear weapons programme, despite "minor losses"; with "minor" meaning other than to the political upper echelon. (note to barack hussein obama: the sanctions are working as effectively as you had ever imagined, but iran has not shut down a single centrifuge. it's time to call your iran policy the failure that it is.) the best way to stop these crazies is "regime change", and the sooner the better, before even more innocent people get hurt.
17. Israel .. isolated
Joe Asfour ,   Burke, USA   (09.30.13)
For years, Israel and Iran had a very close relationship when the Shah was at the helm of Iran. Things have changed since the Iranian revolution. Relations are no good with Turkey either now after similar cozy relationship. Europe now is growing impatient with Israel and its occupation of palestinians and the land grabbing spree. It is obvious that Israel is becoming more and more isolated in the international community. I hope Israeli leaders see this and rather resorting to their "anti-semitic" mantra sit down and think about the long term prospects of a country that is at strategic peace with itself and its neighbors. I no longer support Israel nor I find the David/Goliath analogy justifying US support and billions of dollars we give to support a country that has become an oppressor . There is a limit that even the most pro-zionist supporter finds it difficult to defend.I think we have reached that theshold.
18. Israel - Not Isolated
Jake ,   Haifa Israel   (09.30.13)
What an ignorant comment #17 - 25 years ago, Israel had no or poor relations with China or India or the former Soviet Bloc. Now relations are excellent. They really don't care in China and India - (that would be 2.5 billion people - more than 1/3 of the world who NOW have relations with us) about "Palestine" at all beyond lip service. They want trade and technology. The left wing Europeans are mad at us? Oh well, we will have to suffer. Oddly, now that we are getting richer and found natural gas, they do not want to talk about trade sanctions. We could replace their exports to us with Chinese and US goods and they know it - I think we should. We are already the #1 - that is right - the #1 export market for the US in the Middle East. I am glad of it. Happy to trade with the US - would rather buy US then EU. As for the US aid, I agree. The US should stop all foreign aid to Israel and everyone. The US needs to keep its money and act in its own interest. I think you will find that its interest is not in siding with Islamic "nations" in civil war whose main import is poison gas and weapons and whose main export is terror. But that is up to you.
19. Iran is Going All The Way
Larry ,   Margaliot   (09.30.13)
They won't stop. Their scientists, trained and made useful, are implements to achieving the goals of the IRI, which has never changed. They will not change now, Rouhani's 'charm offensive' or not. These goals remain the besting of their Sunni rivals, control of the oil markets to the extent possible, and using nuclear weapons to cow the Arab world, Europe and the US, all towards the continued spread of the revolution - along with the destruction of Israel, which remains for them a fixation similar to the Nazis' devotion to the death and labor camps even as they were losing the war. Perhaps they are a bit more rational than the Nazis, but not so much more.

solomon ,   bklyn   (09.30.13)
Israel has become an "oppressor"? You obviously believe in mantras without bothering to investigate. How many wars have the arabs started? All. How many gestures have the arabs made towards peace? None. Have the arabs stated they are ready to accept a Jewish state? No. Do Israeli-arabs have equal rights? Yes. Do Christians have equal rights in arab countries? No. Do Jews have equal rights in arab countries? No, of course not. And "of course not" says it all. Read some history, and look up the word "oppressor" in a dictionary, then post.

Ben Green ,   NY USA   (09.30.13)
I am a Jew who has lived in Tehran for 10 years, and I state that this country is not a threat. All of the Zionist imbeciles that parrot lie after lie about Iran are just useful idiots for a regime that has already entered the abyss. If you are following Bibi you are following defeat.
23. the goal is not to kill your scientists
CJK   (09.30.13)
the goal is to dismantle your nuclear weapons program.
24. #22 ben - You are wrong
solomon ,   bklyn   (10.01.13)
Iran is a threat, and is proving it. Not "just" by statements, but by supporting Hamas, Hezbollah, etc. You are either not a Jew who has lived in Tehran for ten years, or blind to reality.
25. #15 lazer re:#10 daniel 2
solomon ,   bklyn   (10.01.13)
Daniel has posted this puppet-like jibberish as “response” to many articles, none of which have anything to do with what he writes. He writes as if the US is the big bad wolf while all other countries are the epitome of kindness, love and good etiquette. He is delusional. Again: his posts have nothing, nada, to do with any article.
26. Israel is Very Dangerous
James ,   US   (10.02.13)
Israel is a paranoid country ruled by a pathologically narcissistic ethnic group/religion that believes itself superior to all others and destined to rule the world. The idea that they also possess nuclear(and probably biological and chemical) weapons with sophisticated delivery systems makes for an extremely alarming situation. "We possess several hundred atomic warheads and rockets and can launch them at targets in all directions, perhaps even at Rome. Most European capitals are targets for our air force. Let me quote General Moshe Dayan: 'Israel must be like a mad dog, too dangerous to bother.' I consider it all hopeless at this point. We shall have to try to prevent things from coming to that, if at all possible. Our armed forces, however, are not the thirtieth strongest in the world, but rather the second or third. We have the capability to take the world down with us. And I can assure you that that will happen before Israel goes under." --Martin van Creveld, Professor of Military History at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, quoted from The Guardian in September 2003
