1. The State can stop pissing on its best citizens
Taxpayer ,   Israel   (10.12.13)
and stop pouring support on thugs, snobs, and anti-Semitic immigrants. When members of the Knesset enjoy giving criminal$ the power to deny decent affordable homes to people who save lives, THEY are the anti-Zionists. When the legal system does not protect victims of violence despite those very victims paying taxes for that protection, THEY are the anti-Zionists. Deal with it properly or S-H-U-T U-P.
2. Double standard
Avramele   (10.12.13)
Then why, when an Israeli of the left makes a comment in response to this author or any other right wing commentator's piece, is there a dozen responders telling them to get out of the country or worse?
3. Don't worry...
Misha ,   Tel Aviv   (10.12.13)
As someone who has spent half his life outside of Israel I say let them leave. You don't have to waste money convincing them to return because they will do so by themselves anyway. After you get over the initial excitement, living abroad is no pleasure at all, or, rather, Israel is much more attractive - humanly, socially, creatively, in every possible way. Money spent on useless promotional campaigns could be better utilized by encouraging Israeli excellence. That would bring them back in droves.
4. encouraging the yordim
Maurice Solovitz ,   London England   (10.12.13)
Israel discourages its Oligarchs from remaining by pouring scorn on them as often as it can - we have a similar thing here in England where success is despised. At the same time, monopolies control the economy and those who benefit do so without honestly contributing to the the Israeli economy. How to reconcile the two? Create the legal framework whereby companies and corporations are encouraged to cooperate on competing externally while ensuring they pass on the financial benefits internally. Prices are far too high in Israel and it all ends up either in the pockets of the Taxation authorities or in the pockets of the rich. This is not Judaism. Nor should it be the way the State of Israel works. Israel is too small to be America or Britain! Tackle the economics and the contempt the ordinary citizen feels at home will dissipate. People will return.
5. #1 you are 100% correct..its also the warped sense of
Al   (10.12.13)
fatalism, lack of self respect and jealousy that enables the Israelis to be eternally 'envious' of those who leave and achieve success abroad. It also comes from a deep rooted lack of pride in Israel and its achievements. Israel is doing well overall in spite of the very poor leadership so very evident in almost all spheres of public life. Israel will always survive. As for its inhabitants, well that is debatable.
6. You cant tell truth until you face truth
Thinking Jew ,   Israel   (10.12.13)
Typical Israeli attitude is "you don't like felafel, go back where you came from!" What Israel needs is attitude, "Let's see how we can get meat pots for you." It's not that you can't. It's that you damn well won't! That's what drives people away. Driving people away is the core Israeli -- and Ultra-Orthodox rabbinic -- doctrine.
7. Why Jews leave is the government's fault & here's why:
Moshe ,   Usa   (10.12.13)
The government must educate all young people students the principles of economics . . . the study of economic science . . . the study of micro economics & macro economics & international economics. These principles are the same in every country. Any Jew who leaves Israel does not realize this: the only way a person will get paid more is if : 1] he/she is educated 2 ] Israeli businesses exports are greater than their imports 3 ] new technologies or services are invented & exported. This increases every Israeli's income. Schools must teach this to young Jewish students at an early age, so that all Jews know that moving out of Israel is not an advantage. In fact it can be harder outside of Israel. I am a stockholder in a company of predominately antisemites. I will sell my share one day & get out. The only countries that have less economic advantage are those that 1 ] are located far away from major populated countries with which to export & 2 ] have little land for building homes & 3 ] non-democratic countries. Therefore, 1 ] teach economics & educate your children & 2 ] annex Judea & Sumaria so that housing prices will diminish & most of all 3 ] expel arobs so that the cost of fighting a 5th column is diminished.
8. What Israelis should learn and do
David ,   On this planet   (10.12.13)
Is racism will destroy Israel. ZIONISTS CAME AND GOT PISSED ON LIKE # 1 SAID SO THEY LEFT. Do they feel guilt,NO they did their part and the state lost.change and fix it or you will lose more
9. Hendel's View
George Morgenstern ,   Rochester, NY   (10.12.13)
The truth is told, and told, and told, and you are not listening. To lecture, moralize, stigmatize, educate, enlighten and whatever to a generation of Jewish people, probably the most sophisticated humans on the face of the earth, is down right crazy. We Americans are where we want to be, by choice, and we "smile" at those intellectuals and "others" with answers. Who cares what you think, you are older then dirt. American Jews are NOT abandoning anything.... new choices on Jewish life and meaning of Israel is reality.
10. Taxpayer, chip me off some of that
HaifaGuy   (10.12.13)
chunky stuff you've been smoking, bro לא הגזמת בכלל!!!
11. Zionism is just an excuse
Alon K. ,   Haifa, Israel   (10.12.13)
For the corrupt political echelon and their friends to rob us of our hard earned money through taxes (theft under the threat of violence). The more successful you are, the more you are taxed - its a joke. The older Israel gets, the more rotten the government becomes. We need a total reboot - fire *everyone*, each and every self-serving bastard. I don't expect the situation to ever improve; the Israeli Joe Sixpack has gotten too good at being hoodwinked. That and the younger generation wants daddy government to give them more "free stuff". The suits are more than happy to oblige as long as they can skim a bit more fat off the top.
12. Very densely populated, Israel has too many ppl for comfort.
Michael ,   California, USA   (10.12.13)
Too many people, too many buildings, too many cars. Not enough trees, rivers, lakes, fresh air. Not enough space. Still, many people come to visit Israel some time, for a short time.
13. In short hand
Mendoza ,   Tel-Aviv, Israel   (10.12.13)
The state is NOT more important than the individuals that make it up.
14. No jobs for 'olim
Jumbix   (10.12.13)
That is the truth....
15. Stop releasing murderous
Reuven   (10.12.13)
terrorists. And reinstate and promote a genuine, hero, Lt. Col. Shalom Eisner. Israel has to be loyal to and protective of her people in order to foster loyalty to Israel in them.
16. Dual nationality
(10.12.13)
that's what it means
17. Bread & milk
Hilla ,   Holland   (10.12.13)
Bought bread and milk today, bread: 1 euro, milk: 0,80 euro. I rest my case.
18. I am a very old Israeli
Raptor   (10.12.13)
who was brought up in this land, plowed and sowed her fields and reaped her harvests, fought her wars and felt all of her pains. I used to love this country, but no more, she has contempt for me and I reciprocate with equal contempt. The government and society of this country have invented a knew equation for mathematicians to put on the books, it's called everybody screws everybody else at every given opportunity without shame. That today is the essence of our society. Kol Yisrael Haverim was a much better deal.
19. Why can't I just be a citizen of earth?
Zach ,   Israel   (10.12.13)
Why do I have to belong to some in-group and live in israel to validate those bona fides? At the end of the day I just want to live a happy life wherever I have the best chance of living it. You only live this thing 'life' once--I don't believe in an after life. So why should anyone happy in America capitulate to group pressure that requires them to give that all up for some half-baked 'higher purpose'? When you're an atheist--as I am--going through with that is utterly asinine
20. bravo the truth
norman sandberg ,   metulla israel   (10.12.13)
those who leave israel justify it by many means but the truth is they are spoiled, cowards and abandon the only place where Jews can grow in freedom and dignity. Shame on them, and may they dwell in the mire and traps that have befallen our people for thousands of years in the places they beleive is heaven.
21. This example is indicative of the problem
Scarborough1414 ,   Scarborough, ON, CAN   (10.12.13)
In Israel there are shuls that put on a lavish kiddish after the Shabbat service. Some don't. The ones that do have inadvertantly spawned a racket. Guys hankering after free food go to these upscale shuls (in rotation) and wait at the back until the dining hall opens, around noon. They rush in and stuff their faces, sometimes making trouble and then stuffing as much food as possible into their pockets (some bring bags). The shuls don't like this, but unless they crack down with great force (hard to do on Shabbat) this will continue. These "demolition squads" are an example of the moral rot at the centre of Israeli society. (Hareidim, don't get smug. This horse$**t happens in your shuls too, perhaps on a more subtle level). In my shul here in Canada, modern Orthodox (please withhold any comments, thank you), people behave at the kiddishes. Food is plentiful but basic, not lavish. What a shocker, everyone behaves (even when alcohol is served). That's called being a mensch. In Israel the level of civilization seems to be ratcheting downwards, resembling somewhat the barbarism on HBO's Game of Thrones (I know, I know, it's goyischkeit. But there's a lesson to be learned nonetheless).
22. Norman you live in a dream
(10.12.13)
Where in Israel can Jew grow in freedom and dignity? Leaving in crapy apartments in sharing and earning $6 an hour while being taxed a lot you call this dignity? When were you in Israel last time? Wake up dude! At least in the US or Europe you are not asked what religion you belong to in order to do buisness
23. Israelis are pushed out from Israel
(10.12.13)
With a society getting incredibly more and more exclusive, violent, racist, ethnocentric and separatist what did you expect??? People want to live a descent life. A life where they are given respct for what they're able to do. A life where they're not asked everyday if they're Jewish or not and a place where their freedom and integrity is not threaten by extremism. The Israel I know is not what she claims to be. She has a very ugly face you want to run away from
24. Intelligent Jews abandon Israel
Nour ,   1-State   (10.12.13)
Why it should surprise anyone? The place is an Aparthheid based system with Right wing corrupt fanatics running the show and destroying their own people let alone the indigenous Palestinians! we Palestinians shed no tears over good people deceived by the failed colomial experiment called Israel The only path to redemption amd reinvention is the single state where the potental of the individual is fully tapped and based on merit, not religion or race!
25. Who's to blame?
Moshino ,   Tel Aviv   (10.12.13)
Every time you have to make ends meet because employers don't pay their employees the minimum they need to make a living, whose fault is it if Israelis want to emigrate? Every time you need to overwork just to pay basic bills, whose fault is it if Israelis want to emigrate? Every time your experience, education and hard work are not appreciated, whose fault is it if Israelis want to emigrate? And what's the big deal if Israelis leave and get a job that allows them not on only to make a very good living, but also to donate money to Israel? BTW, I'm a Zionist Jew. I've seen many friends leave because they just had to struggle to get what you take for granted in any other Western country. Who's to blame? The question remains...
26. Yes, all Jews to Israel, let's see how well that works out.
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (10.12.13)
27. out side Israel for more then 40 years. I agree with 99%
JJJ   (10.12.13)
I am An israeli from birth living out side Israel for more then 40 years. I agree agree with ninety nine percent of the article, I see israeli friend that thought their kids will never marry a none jew in fact get married to none jews and the israeli parents in shook but justifying the intermarriages, each with their own excuse. But, one excuse is valid, in it goes like this: When I tried going back to Israel I was in my mid 40's, there is almost no chance for me to find a decent job, and the reason is, I am over 40. Its true it happened to me too, I was not greedy or practically choosey. The sad part friends of mine in senior positions in major corporations told me, even if they want to help they couldn't "YOU ARE OVER 40"
28. Anti social taxes
Jerome ,   AKL   (10.12.13)
You can't have them all. Either Duty or purchase tax or local tax or VAT. Ferrari 360 Modena 2005- $ 130K in NZ. Porsche 997 2005- $38K in NZ. House by the water, 5 Bedrooms, 2 livings, 4 bathrooms - under 3mil shekel in NZ . Israel 3 bed olim block Petach Tikva 2mil Shekel. Tel Aviv the capital of Skoda and Toyota. You can keep them. Jews are not destined to live in poverty in their own land. So why inflict unnecessary poverty? The country is doing well, the economy is booming- Why Why Why all these taxes?
29. #7***
Jim ,   Toronto   (10.12.13)
I could not agree with you more, you are 100% right.
