2. For Jews to remain in blood soaked Europe
Al   (10.18.13)
is the definition of insanity. You just cant fix insanity. There is no future for Jewish life in Europe. Get a clue and get out.
3. Swedish Jews
iselin ,   Oslo, Norway   (10.18.13)
The survey says that 49% of Swedish Jews do not engage in obvious Jewish activities such as wearing skullcaps. This is not necessarily because of anti-Semitism. Most Swedish Jews are secular and it would never occur to them to wear skullcaps or any other religious symbols. Although most Scandinavians are Christian, few people wear crosses, and that's not because so many people are anti-Christian. It's all in how a person sees and identifies him/herself. Non-religious people seldom wear religious ids. Religion is a private matter. It doesn't need to be advertised.
4. #2 Hows Quebecistan Al?

5. And do what? make aliyah and go from middle class to
Debbie   (10.18.13)
an immigrant who probably doesnt speak Hebrew, will not get a good job as a result of that and even then a good job is going to pay them a wage simiiar to what they earnt when they were 19 or 20. As much as I love Israel, do you really think citizens from the first world will actually come and settle in large numbers in the middle east?
6. #3 thats very true. Most are secular but Ynet love the DRAMA
Swedish Jew   (10.18.13)
and the headline spin.
7. Complete agreement with your final statement, #3
Cameron ,   USA   (10.18.13)
My own view over the years. Let the symbolism & identity statement be left at home.
8. #5 Yes and No
David G   (10.19.13)
I agree with you that a middle class Jewish family is unlikely to immigrate to Israel for the very reasons you mention. However, a young Jew living in Europe between the ages of 17-25 who can still serve in the IDF and/or attend college in Israel is perfect for Aliyah. And 20 or so years later their retired parents will follow them.
9. # Muslims in Sweden also forego identifying clothes?
AK   (10.19.13)
No head scarfs in Sweden? The Jews used to wear stars of David, but not so much now. Wonder why?
10. # 7, why?
AK   (10.19.13)
11. Well... at least they aren't rounded up to wear cross.
Miron ,   US   (10.19.13)
If I remember correctly that is what happened most recently to PM of Greece... and in what place... Yad Vashem of entire world.
12. What a contrast!
Mark ,   London, UK   (10.19.13)
Jews eschew visible signs of their religion, whilst Muslims women go out of their way to wear symbols to demonstrate their faith. I think I would rather go with the Jewish approach here. There's a difference in being visible for the sake of a visible declaration that you do not support the mores of state in which you live.
13. Jewish experience of 2000 years says...
Robert ,   Antwerp Belgium   (10.19.13)
that Jewish communities would better leave when government turns a blind eye to antisemitic acts or sponsors them and when it introduces legislation that discriminates against Jews or tries to make life difficult for them. Europe is moving with laws against ritual slaughter and circumcision. that's a very bad signal.
14. Israel needs AFFORDABLE HOMES

KEEP BUILDING !!!
15. to #13
iselin ,   Oslo, Norway   (10.20.13)
That Europe is passing laws against these ancient customs is an indication that people are thinking and not just swallowing whole anything mentioned in these thousands of years old texts. Times have changed. Religion does not hold most people in thrall anymore.
16. I got news for U-Muslims are streaming in to SA as well .
Alan ,   SA   (10.21.13)
A few weeks ago they were singing "Kill the Jews" on the steps of the University.... They said they were "only joking!"
17. iselin and Cameron: Swedish Jews ?
jdc ,   New York, US   (10.21.13)
So about half of the Swedish Jews, i.e. 4 Jews, do not wear skullcaps ? True enough, who wants to get jumped by the oppressed minorities ? Now is not wearing a religious symbol an advertisement of secularism ?
18. advertising
iselin ,   Oslo, Norway   (10.21.13)
There is such a thing as being neutral, private. Why does anyone have to advertise anything, or why do you have to look for a message where there is none? I have two beautiful pins, a spiderweb and a snowflake. What do they advertise? That I love spiders and that I love snow? Not really. I wear them because I think that they are beautiful. Life isn't a college literature or art history course, where everything you read or look at is infused with symbolism (Look at The Awakening Conscience by William Holman Hunt for a good example of symbolism, which is, thank goodness, dead for the most part these days) Some people get hung up with symbols, religious or otherwise. Life is too short for silly stuff. Most people don't need to be hit in the head with symbols, religious or otherwise. No ulterior motives for this secular humanist.
