1. Diskin you are working for who now ? Obama and Abou Mazen ?
(11.01.13)
2. deluded leftist at work
italian ,   italy   (11.01.13)
Let debunk his delusions: disloyal israeli arabs aren't the core of the nation, but a minority among the minority, whose new disloyalty should be solved with a transfer to a palestinian state. Giving to palestinians a port? Why? They already have gaza. Creating for them jobs? An indipendent state can't expect to be economically sustained by another. I know that palis are addicted to be maintained by US EU and the others, but i suppose they will be able to stop begging. I suggest this leftist to study better, and to propose something better than usual lies, the next time.
3. Palestinian/Israeli Conflict
Ron Sasser ,   Milton, FL, USA   (11.01.13)
You have presented a very good and thought out commentary on what it will take to resolve the conflict. But I see no way around the fact that the Palestinians when given what is called for in any agreement will stop there. The Palestinians want Israel out completely. The Israelis will never give up their homeland. It does not matter that their was never such a people in the past called Palestinian. It does not matter that the Israelis have an ancient right to the land. The reality is that force of arms is what keeps chaos from occurring in Israel and there is no political solution. It is not a political problem. It is a social/religious conflict and as long as both sides teach their children what is being taught now, there will never be a solution. It would take two generations to undo the established indoctrination of children as it has been and is. If anyone comes and presents a quick solution that seems to work, he brings death.
4. shmock, pals under abbas and hamas never will lead to peace
bb ,   brazil   (11.01.13)
the former top spy live in mars, he didnt understand the hudge challange israli people and jews are facing. if bibi give abbas jerusalem and w bank wouldnt be enought. israel and jewish people are facing various periouls and chalenge. iran would not leavd israel in peace, with hezzbolah and hamas joined, even bibi sign any deal. We must face the challanges. as i am not bibi, i would give abbas what he ask. a) whitdraw of idf until hammas hang abbas neck and plo followrs. b) give all land where today arabs are a majority and deny any economic help.they have their arabs, muslim, christians and bds brothers to help them.it is a question of time to sunnies, shia ,seculars and al caida to kill each other, and the palestine turn another arab country with the same good and very bad education, civil rights, growth. c)focus in diplomatic , lawfare and warfare with the enemies of israel.Fighting propaganda. d) change diplomatic from europe and obama, lets them spy each other, no good from thes counties
5. They could have had a future
Mira ,   Vienna   (11.01.13)
66 years ago! They decided against and went for violence and killing and that did not stop until today. They should look at their precious brothers to find out that violence and hate does not lead to anything but failure!
6. He's past bright and makes
arne ,   chicago usa   (11.01.13)
good sense, but the problems lie with those who will not accept the exsistance of Israel under any condition. So all that Israel can do is to remain strong, sleep with one eye open.I also think the building or expanding settlements should be curtailed.
7. Give them hope of Right of Return back to homeland of Mecca
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (11.01.13)
8. Same old broken premise
Yeled ,   USA   (11.01.13)
Diskin offers yet another analysis that puts zero responsibility on the Palestinian side for peacemaking. The author doesn't seem concerned with the fact that Palestinian society isn't democratic (Abbas' term ran out in '09 and there is no framework for new elections), the PA and Hamas use state owned infrastructure to promote incitement, foreign money continues to pour into the Palestinian Territories to reject normalization between sides, the Palestinian political leadership treats the released murderers as national heroes, and much more. Any viable 2 state solution MUST begin with social and political leadership willing to create a climate of belonging on BOTH sides. As long as Diskin and others refuse to highlight the importance of social and political responsibility by Palestinians and not not just Israelis, peace will not ever happen. Lack of leadership by Palestinians foments extremist behavior among Israelis as well as Palestinians. This is not a one-driver bus. Let's not forget that if the goal is real peace. Just because the Palestinians have less power doesn't mean they have no responsibilities to foster an honorable future for all people involved through democratic institutions, rejection of incitement, etc.
9. Diskin we are fed up to read your leftist opinion
(11.01.13)
10. Yuval you are a leftist coward

11. Three Basic Steps...
Abdel Karim Salim ,   Jerusalem   (11.01.13)
Three basic steps are necessary to come into being before trying to talk about cosmetics . There is no way peace , security , and stability can last long without three basic conditions : goodwill , reconciliation , and compromise . If everything is negotiated in good faith from the very beginning then half the problem is gone . Regarding the Palestinian side basically their problem could be solved thus, at least in principle : 1) The creation of a Palestinian-Jordanian federation of the West Bank and Jordan as one state for both peoples , with the West Bank remaining mostly demilitarized . 2) Granting money compensation to the Palestinian refugees of UNRWA camps and resettling them in the newly-created federated state . 3) Creating a joint Israeli-Palestinian sovereign council for political and administrative matters in East Jerusalem with the Palestinian side being represented fairly by Moslems and Christians at a proportion of 60% and 40% respectively , and granting the Old City special religious status to insulate it from political and social/ethnic strife . Concerning the big Israeli settlement blocs in the West Bank in the event of a peace agreement they could be either dismantled or kept under the jurisdiction of the newly-created Palestinian-Jordanian federation just like the Arabs of the Galilee are under Israeli jurisdiction . And that , in principle , should be it ...
12. Another left wing loser
Rachel ,   US   (11.01.13)
13. Diskin believes Israel has no right to the land.
Jake ,   USA   (11.01.13)
In that context, his deluded commentary makes perfect sense. For the rest of us, who firmly believe the land belongs to the Jewish nation, Diskin is just more white noise.
14. He is right.
Mea   (11.01.13)
I would only add that people should watch the documentary 'The Gatekeepers' in order to fully understand way it is that virtually every former Shin Bet or Mossad leader recommends change in policies related to settling the conflict. Listen carefully to how they frame their sentences. Read between the lines in this editorial. Diskin is not advocating anything except mutual responsibility for creating stages that will lead to a beginning point, not a solution--and that is wise since all one can do at this point is manage communications. Previously the Roadmap outlined a performance driven series of steps. It was an excellent agreement. It may have worked IF the World Bank and other key financial institutions and investors had been encourage to step in and shore up the Palestinian sector. Unfortunately at that point other factors weighed in and collapsed the agreement, including the absence of investment in the Pal economy. This led to increased investments in the tunnel economy in Gaza. It led to Cast Lead. Diskin is right on in his vision and in his caution. He balances the responsibility of both sides to beware of the fragility of the street--and indeed this is what is warned about over and over by the Gatekeepers. Things have changed yet again, and on the one hand the power shift from thugdoms to the street has come full circle in Egypt and now Obama has endangered all processes by cutting off the aid to Egypt that served as motivation to stay in conversation. Israel, through no credit to Bibi, has managed to maneuver the course in spite of his lopsided loyalty to all things ultra-religious. I thank Yuval Diskin for this balanced assessment.
15. Violence is the only options the jews
Inevitable   (11.01.13)
have given the Palestinians. Two large prisons Gaza & West Bank ready to blow. Justly so.
16. Nice article.

19. Obviously he is deluded
Steven ,   San Francisco   (11.01.13)
Can't this person go for psychiatric care? It's obviously long overdue and I hate to see an untreated patient babble nonsensically.
20. Working Israeli Security is bad for your mental health: that
tom ,   tel aviv   (11.01.13)
much is obvious by now. Why come out with such nonsense and NOW of all times? These guys have hard time disappearing into shadows, so they create new "relevance" by making idiotic statements, knowing that our Leftist Junkies in the media will lap it up. Like Shoah-denial statements, if you're irrelevant history professor longing for spotlight....I could be wrong though, the guy could be a simple, garden variety idiot.
21. "Hope" might have prevented 9/11 atrocities?
Steve   (11.01.13)
If only the United States gave Osama bin Laden and the jihadists hope? No more terror?
22. What can we
Birdi ,   Israel   (11.01.13)
expect, Diskin was 1 of the ex-Mossad guys who gave interviews for that recent disgusting documentary (forget the name) giving Israel a filthy name!
23. Yuval Diskin is a wise man who should be listened to.
David Clarke ,   Liverpool, England.   (11.01.13)
Its rather amusing, but not surprising, to say the least, to read the comments from the usual crowd of bible thumping nationalistic zealots and fundamentalist Christians on Ynet calling a former Shin Bet agent, of all people, a "deluded leftist". I rather think that Yuval Diskin is right when he says that trust must be built on both sides, that the Palestinian and Israeli people must be given hope via a two-state solution and that settler attacks and the building of settlements and the fear of unending occupation leads to a cycle of Palestinian violence and a feeling of persecution on their part. Yuval Diskin, unlike the messianics of Ynet sitting in their comfortable houses in America and busy spewing out bible verses, prophecies and damnations to anyone having an opinion slightly to the left of Meir Kahane and Dov Lior, actually has a better grasp of the sittuation than most people for having served on the front line of the conflict and making a balanced opinion based on his experiences. Diskin is a man Israelis should listen to if they hope to have a future free of conflict, war, misery and bloodshed.

30. 14.
Birdi ,   Israel   (11.01.13)
Ever heard of the word, corruption? Do you know how corrupt the Palestinians (leaders & their bouncers) are? ''If the world bank & other key financial institutions & investors had been encouraged to step in & shore up the Palestinian sector.'' Why on earth should the big financial knobs part with their $$ when they know their money would be used to line the pockets of the Palestinian leaders & never reach the pockets of the poor Palestinians. Grow up dear, you are far too naive.
