31. We all know what they are "hoping" for...The end of Israel
Alan ,   SA   (11.01.13)
32. Main Palestinian problem is Jewish Israel
Sam ,   Canada   (11.01.13)
What Palestinians want is one Palestinian state or two Palestinian states. What bothers them most is how to get rid of the Jews be they leftist or rightist.
33. Israeli definition of peace
Mohammed Dosouqui ,   Alexandria , Egypt   (11.01.13)
The problem with Israelis is that ey want to win ten to zero not enough for them to win 10 to five or six .A wise course would be to win and bring a quick close up otherwise the issue wonot go away and you could lose the process . Releasing few prisoners is not going to cut it but a small gesture , settlement expansions tell me the impulse to win ten. To zero is Alice and well .
34. #33, You Arabs own 99.8% of Middle East (1000 to 2), enough?
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (11.01.13)
35. the truth of the matter is
rm ,   NL Amsterdam   (11.02.13)
the current situation is too good for Israel to give up. The army has a free pass with their arrest-missions. The settlers don't really have to fear big expulsions. Building is flourishing. Ariel has a university, Jerusalem is filled with zealots starting bonfires in hotly contested areas. Really it has nothing to gain with a peacetreaty. And the palestinians make it so easy on them to put the blame on them.
36. #7. We get your messages...where is "split"?
Tom W ,   USA   (11.02.13)
Keep up the the witty contribution.
37. to #33 Mohammed in Alexandria
Bluegrass Picker ,   Afula   (11.02.13)
careful, or we will return your country back to its Coptic-language indigenous people. You Arab-speakers are colonialist invaders in Egypt. Spain was cleansed of you yesterday, Rakhine is being cleansed of you today..... Jerusalem will be liberated from you tomorrow.
38. Who Does Diskin Represent?
A Simple Jew ,   Beer Sheva   (11.02.13)
This commentary is pure defeatism. It could have been written by Abu Mazan himself, or by Obama's leftist State Department. Diskin doesn't represent Israel, he represents those who would weaken Israel, expel her most loyal citizens, and place an Arab army on the WB overlooking Ben Gurion Airport and Tel Aviv.
39. I always have a pathetic broken record UNSC, NATO, ICC, BBC
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (11.01.13)
40. Jake
Birdi ,   Israel   (11.01.13)
This one # 33, is for you to answer!
41. Diskin ! Do you think about the victims ? Shame on you !
(11.02.13)
42. victims
al ,   berlin   (11.02.13)
are the poorest excuse for prolonging the conflict and shouldn't be used to undermine the only realistic pespective israel has to exist in the future. it is a shame indeed to accept future victims by preventing nessesary even if hurtful steps towards reconciliation.
43. Diskin
eli ,   Sharon   (11.02.13)
Diskin Is Shedding His Skin!! LIke A SNAKE !!!
44. #15 you are correct!
solomon ,   bklyn   (11.02.13)
but like so many others who refuse to accept reality, you have it totally backwards. The killing of Jews began in the 1800’s, and well before Israel was established. Who attacked whom all these years? Who has threatened annihilation of the other? The statement still holds true that if the arabs lay down their arms, there will be peace; if the Jews lay down their arms they will be killed. Hamas? Hezbollah? PLO? Their killing Jews (worldwide, in case you forget) stems from not recognizing even the possibility of a Jewish state. If you think differently you are putting the proverbial cart before the horse, and are ignoring history to boot.
45. Good, thoughtful article
Rafi ,   US   (11.02.13)
46. Dear Yuval
Fernando   (11.03.13)
With all due respect.Have you ever thought , that maybe there is a religious war ? When muslims light christians schools with the pupils inside in Africa, jihadist blow a disco in Asia , kill a jabadnick rebe in India , or blow the towers in Manhattan ,are all part of the same war ?? Do you expect peace if we leave Gaza?? Do you ?? By the way that was not the result..... Havent you see their map of Palestine ? Sorry, i dont get you.
47. #33, the Arabs want to win 100-0 instead of 99-1
Jake ,   USA   (11.03.13)
The Arabs occupy 99% of the middle east. The Jewish people lay claim to under 1% of the middle east, but the Arab nation is too greedy to accept the Jewish nation, no matter how small.
48. Funny how every right-winger just knows better
Shachar ,   Eilat   (11.03.13)
than every head of the ShB"C, head of Mossad, Chief of Staff that this country has ever had. And right-wing gov'ts appointed all these "leftists"!! I wonder if these talkbackers know how pathetic they sound. Diskin is right about all these matters, it just doesn't suit the agenda of the current gov't.....perpertual conflict does.
49. #48, do you think the West Bank occupation is unlawful?
Jake ,   USA   (11.03.13)
Former Supreme Court Justice Edmund Levy has written a detailed report debunking the myth that Israel's occupation of the West Bank is unlawful. Since credentials is all that matters to you, I'm curious, do you think the West Bank occupation is unlawful?
50. #49 If only the right-wing would respect the High Court
Shachar ,   Eilat   (11.03.13)
As one who disdains anyone who has done something for this country you can't really support Edmund Levy could you? After all you despise the High Court of Justice and it's rulings! Former Justice Levy gave a legal opinion to the gov't. He didn't and couldn't give a ruling on the question. The West Bank is a political problem to be solved by diplomats and statesmen, not a legal problem.
51. #50, thank you - we agree :)
Jake ,   USA   (11.03.13)
"The West Bank is a political problem to be solved by diplomats and statesmen" -Shachar, Eilat
52. #48. Judea/Samaria belong to Israel. Period.
Chaim ,   Israel   (11.04.13)
Palestine is a fictional state that has never existed and never will. Judea and Samaria belong to Israel. Period. "Palestinians" are mortal foes, like the Nazis. Nor do they even pretend to be anything else. They shout out their genocidal intent for the world to see on P.A. TV and elsewhere, every single day.
53. #52 Israel exists even if our enemies
On the Balcony   (11.04.13)
don't yet recognize or accept it. The State of Palestine also exists, even if you don't recognize or accept it. We just have to wait for the negotiations to conclude Chaim.
54. #50 I think Israel could legally annex the West Bank
Shachar ,   Eilat   (11.04.13)
Which would definately take the settlements from a grey area into the clear(legally). But I doubt it's a good idea and no Israeli gov't has been prepared to take that leap. The present state of limbo is also bad for everyone (except Hamas and fanatics from both sides) so it's time to make a decision and live with it.
55. #54, we agree again; Israel's dithering is terrible.
Jake ,   USA   (11.04.13)
I support either full annexation of B&C, with citizenship for all residents, and building a land corridor connecting all of Area A to the Allenby Crossing. At that point, there is no occupation, no apartheid, and freedom of movement for all PA residents (albeit in a confined area). This is basically Bennett's plan, and it trumps Oslo for one simple reason, ITS FEASIBLE. Oslo is an impossible concept because the PA's bargaining position is laughably unrealistic. Even Rabin could not have made a deal with the PA, as he supported a permanent Israeli presence in the Jordan valley, and the annexation of Maale Adumim to Israel. Bibi is a leftist compared to Rabin.
56. Addendum to #55
Jake ,   USA   (11.04.13)
I wrote "I support either...annexation of B&C". I forgot to write the other option, which is full annexation of AB&C if that's what it takes to stop the partitioning of Israel. A 2/3 Jewish majority in a Jewish Democratic state isn't ideal, but its far better than a 3/4 Jewish majority in a castrated shell of a state, existing under the nose of a vicious enemy sworn to Israel's destruction.
