1. Losing hope in stolen land? There is plenty of oil in Mecca.
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (12.02.13)
2. quicky question ... did you vote for Hamas like the 70%
Naftules ,   Jerusalem   (12.02.13)
Instead of having peace with Israel after we left the gazans gegan intensive rocket attacks into Israel and Hamas who is dedicated to destroying Israel was voted into power by 70 percent plus of population of gaza. Real polls show many if not most gazans support the rockets attacks by hamas. If Israel had peace from gaza there would be no blockade and lots of electricity and plenty of water. you choose to use terror and Israel is forced into a blockade. Stop the rockets , elect peaceful leaders and you would be surprised to find the sea blockade lifted and no Israeli presence at all there.
3. Gazans demoratically elected Hamas... let them complain to..
Dafni ,   Israel   (12.02.13)
HAMAS. They have plenty of money to buy weapons and build killing tunnels. Maybe the people should make their government stop buying these things (to kill the Jews) and instead spend the same money on doing something for their citizens. Pretty easy.
4. My Sea, My Day.
Elyah ,   Los Angeles   (12.02.13)
Too bad the gov"t in control of gaza are more interested in fighting Israel then providing for their people(how much time, money and manpower to build terrorist tunnel). when the arabs love their children more than they hate the jews something might change.
5. I have seen the the upscale Hotels as well
Rod ,   Fargo N..Dakota   (12.02.13)
as some of the fancy homes of Gaza officials.I'v seen photos of real starving people in the world and Gaza isn't in top 20.Just be happy Israel is a mostly Jewish Country . If it wasn't the world wouldn't give a hoot
6. Pals prefer to live with no hope than make peace with Israel
Sam ,   Canada   (12.02.13)
Palestinians prefer waiting for the destruction of Israel to making peace with Jews. There is a chance to give everyone hope but Palestinians want to get it for themselves and have the Jews lose it.
7. Voting
David ,   New England   (12.02.13)
If they had voted to have peaceful relations with Israel all these problems could be solved.
8. Thank you
Levi ,   Jerusalem   (12.02.13)
Dr. Muna al-Fara, I do not know what else to say other than thank you. I hope for you all better times.
9. pure pallywood
tom ,   toronto, canada   (12.02.13)
the carefully crafted lie contains an element of truth. this piece has all the elements, the "refugee camp", the shortages of water and electricity, the picture of a destroyed building. but it doesn't explain why there are still "refugees", 65 years on, or that the smuggling tunnels from egypt were closed by the egyptians, in response to terrorism in sinai. and it doesn't bother to point out that fuel prices were raised, not by israel, but by the palestinian authority, who got tired of giving gaza a tax-free ride. and it certainly doesn't mention that the cement allowed in by israel for rebuilding was diverted to making tunnels to kidnap israelis. the fact that they have drinking water, electricity, and access to israeli hospitals, is all thanks to the unbelievable goodwill of the israeli government, in stark contrast to their arab brethren and unrwa, who have laboured tirelessly for 65 years to hold them hostage as "refugees".
10. Not demonizing Israel
Robert Haymond ,   Teko'a, Israel   (12.02.13)
This was, for once, a very straightforward description of life in Gaza not written with any obvious political agends in mind, not blaming, not demonizing, not self-pitingly, just stating in all its sadness how it really is. I suppose the Gazan populace is just too intimidated and hopeless to rise up against its own oppressors.
11. Somehow, Doctor, for all of your good intentions
A ,   Belgium   (12.02.13)
working with children, I don't feel sorry for you, or your fellow Gazans at all. When are ready to dispose of that terrorist entity that Gaza has elected to represent you, the terrorist entity that shoots rockets into civilian centers in Israel and has never ceased in its oath to destroy the "Zionist occupier of "palestinian" land", until you and your fellow Gazans are willing to stand up and declare that you are willing to live in peace with the Jewish State of Israel as your neighbors, than just keep marching up and down those stairs and taking cold showers. You have only gotten what you "voted" for.
12. sorry muna....
dana rothschild ,   jerusalem, israel   (12.02.13)
by next elections in gaza think for whom do you vote...
13. another sob story about poor 'us
tiki ,   belgium   (12.02.13)
Well, Mrs. Muna al Fara, there would be hope if you would put your mind to cooperation with Israel instead of the destruction of Israel! It would help if you would learn your children to love instead of hate! There would be a solution if you would throw out the selfish UNWRA, the schoolbooks of hate, stop the inciting TV programs which poison your children and instead focus on peace and worthwhile future projects which can help the people to take care of themselves instead of staying eternal beggars. There would be hope if you would throw out your ''government" that uses EUS taxpayers money for weapons & smuggle tunnels instead of work, factories, inventions, food, electricity....and water! You see Mrs. al Fara, there is always hope, but it's up to you and your people to make the right choices, which you consistently fail to do. Stop being an activist but be a humanist who really cares for the children of the Middle East, because now you fail miserably at your job!
14. Very touching with an easy solution.
shadoil79 ,   Jerusalem   (12.02.13)
Renounce rocket terrorism and allow Israel to exist. The rest will follow.
15. Really Lady? To Hell with your "hope". "Human needs" need
tom ,   tel aviv   (12.02.13)
HUMANS to begin with: you and yours did everything to lose the privilege of being called that. Very sorry for you as an individual, but as a collective, you'll have to turn to the European dupes, that are forever ready to hear your lies and support your terrorist government. You voted them in, you pay the price. Cry at Obama's gates, he's a willing listener.
16. Gazans created their own situation
Dan   (12.02.13)
Dear Dr al Fara, your grandparents created your situation by choosing violence instead of living peacefully in Israel. Your parents were smart enough to live peacefully and be allowed to work in Israel. Your generation has accepted a terrorist government and fired thousands of missiles at Israeli civilians. Your problems are the result of your stupidity and aggression. I have no sympathy for you.
17. So elect a reasonable government
Miracle Dog ,   Israel   (12.02.13)
Hamas clearly aren't doing it.
18. Very Sad....
barney ,   chicago   (12.02.13)
think about how much better your life would be if the money you received from donor nations would actually be used on things to improve life rather than munitions, bomb making & villas for Hamas apparatchiks
19. she lives is highrise apartment with a doorman
david ,   new york   (12.02.13)
cool! i saw some pictures of how the well connected live in gaza, and its pretty darn good.
21. There is plenty of seafood a short distance from Mecca, go!
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (12.02.13)
22. Yes , sure...
Abdel Karim Salim ,   Jerusalem   (12.02.13)
There's nothing worse than losing hope . And it's not surprising that when such people lose hope they kill eleven Israeli athletes during the Olympics ,and also kiss a dozen Israeli school kids in Maalot...
23. Whiz this situation ?
Gallula ,   Paris   (12.02.13)
All the answers are in the fascism Islamist Hamas. Instead of building schools, hospitals and provide Well being to the citizens they prefer building rokets, tunnels and provide hatred of their neighbor. So turn your comments if you can to them unless you can do it without being hanging.
24. 1
jonathan ,   aboriginaland   (12.02.13)
Your situation is indeed very sad.But look at who your leaders are-they don't care enough about your children-they are not on the agenda.Arms are their priority. Why?Because their charter states that the destruction of Jews is an absolute must.Israel has never ever stated for the destruction of all Arabs because they are Arabs. Why don't you and others who want freedom from your criminal govnt simply go to the border and demand to leave. You may be killed by your own people or let go. If they stark killing you then something will happen.I shall leave it to your own imagination.Fight your enemy within.
25. Here's an Idea, Doctor.
Jason, Ph.D. ,   Charlotte, USA   (12.02.13)
Doctor al-Fara, when Israel withdrew from the Gaza strip, it was with the hope that the strip would become a model of Palestinian economic growth. Instead, Hamas took over and decided to shoot rocket after rocket randomly (which is a war crime) into Israel. This is why the strip is not the most fun place to live. Here's my idea: How about telling your 'leaders' to renounce terrorism and to announce their intention to live peacefully? What a concept, huh? Then there will not be any need for any kind of blockade of the Gaza Strip. Of course, if you recommend this course of action to your 'leaders', we both know what will happen to you, don't we?
26. Gazans' problems
Abu Yussef al Yahudi ,   Bue_Aires-Argentina   (12.02.13)
The solution of your problems, i.e. the shortage of fuel, electricity, medicinal drugs, fresh water, etc. etc. etc, is very simple: 1st- Stop the firing of rockets against the civilians of Israel 2nd. - Erase from the Chart of Hamas the declaration of your wish to DESTROY the State of Israel. 3rd - Stop the teaching of HATE against the Jews that you deliver to your children. 4th. - Sign a PEACE TREATY with Israel, likewise Jordan an Egypt had made, and ALL your problems will be solved.
27. Life in Gaza
A ,   Modiin, Israel   (12.03.13)
Thank you Dr. Muna al-Fara. I hope and pray for a miracle that will give hope to us all. I'm shocked by the majority of the talk backs. The pure hate, cynicism and the total lack of empathy for the suffering of other human beings is despicable. I think especially of all the children who are growing up in Gaza without a future, nor hope for a better life. This is not about who is responsible for the situation in Gaza, what we need to hear are the human voices of the countless innocents that live there. It makes me feel terrible. Reading the talk backs makes me loose hope even further - where is our humanity? Where is the love?
28. No sympathy
Birdi ,   Israel   (12.02.13)
from me. You made your bed.....
29. Not a shred of sympathy
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (12.03.13)
Sorry. The people of Gaza are the architects of their misery. Perhaps if they spent a bit more on infrastructure and a bit less on acquiring weapons and building terrorist training centers for preschoolers and kindergarteners, life might get better for them. But as long as those missiles fly, nothing will change.
30. Maybe you shouldn't have destroyed the greenhouses
Susan ,   Syracuse, NY   (12.03.13)
Palestinians were handed everything they needed. Cities, greenhouses equipped with the latest technology. What did they do? Tear them apart to make platforms for missile launchers. You deserve everything you get.
