1. The bottom line.Jews accept Pal state.Pals reject Jewish one
Sam ,   Canada   (12.03.13)
The bottom line is that most Jews will accept a Palestinian majority state and most Palestinians don't want a Jewish majority state. Various Jewish and Palestinian figures try to make a name by confusing the issue and elaborating new explanations. The Palestinians reject a Jewish majority Israel because they want Muslim majority rule over Israel and the West Bank. The US,EU and liberal Jews try to uselessly overcome that by demanding more and more Jewish concessions which never prove enough.
2. Common Future
Zechariah   (12.03.13)

Abbas should require Netanyahu to recognise the West Bank & Gaza as the homeland of the Palestinian people.
5. An intelligent and enlightening article. [end]

6. Palestinian people?
Sidney ,   USA   (12.03.13)
Was there any talk of a Palestinian people or a Palestinian state between 1948 and 1947? After the Six Day War and the "three noes", suddenly a Palestinian people appeared.
7. You hear me, I hear you
Hunt S Cross ,   England   (12.03.13)
The issue isn't one of balance, as Friedman puts it in the last paragraph. The "Palestinian people" came into existence after 1968. There is plenty of evidence to show their identification with Syria and Egypt before then. So Netanyahu is right. The Arabs' rejection of UN 181 and their rejectionist attitudes and behaviour since means that there is no moral obligation on Israel to help create a Palestinian state. All the same, there should be one, one which is economically viable, which is unable to pose a threat to the security of Israel's population and with which Israel is prepared to live in peace - as it has wanted to since independence. That appears not to be enough for the Palestinians, but they should not be rewarded for their three generations of terrorism.
8. Spot on! Very well formulated by the author
Gunnar ,   Gothenburg, Sweden   (12.03.13)
The reason Israel's government (not the country, its government!!) is losing friends in a never-before seen pace is because it is headed by a man who is a fraud at worst, a hypocrite at best. More often loathed than loved, but Israeli politicians like Golda Meir, Begin, Shamir or Liberman, they always had respect. By friend AND foe.
9. #6 Yes, the plan under the mandate was
On the Balcony   (12.04.13)
to create a secular state for ALL Palestinians - both Jewish and non-Jewish.
10. recognise west bank and gaza as homeland of the palestinians
Max Epstein ,   Australia   (12.04.13)
Yaron Why?
11. Any connection to Tom Friedman? Seems so. Netanyahu is very
tom ,   tel aviv   (12.04.13)
magnanimous in his approach to Arabs wanting a piece of Israel(to begin with, later it's the whole cake). In show-biz there is often talk of "re-inventing" oneself. These Arabs took it to another level altogether: they simply "invented" themselves from thin air. About time Bibi stopped this charade.
12. To the author
solomon ,   bklyn   (12.04.13)
Read some history, then write. Read #6 as a start.
13. arab occupiers, squatting on Jewish land.
michael Pielet ,   Israel   (12.04.13)
These arabs are squatters on Jewish land. I am a Jewish-Palestinian.
14. Well Bibi is 100% correct!

netanyahu has to be so tough . we must be protected . and tough . how can the world be so foolish
16. true, who cares about the others?
john ,   rome   (12.04.13)
true, who cares about the others? we have to be protected. let's exploit and occupy everything that we can
17. Bottom line. What jewish people?
Judaism is a religio   (12.04.13)
18. Small change
David Segal ,   Philadelphia, USA   (12.06.13)
The author's exertions to find fault with PM Netanyahu comes up with nothing but small change when compared to the flood of Jew-hatred and rejection from the Palestinian side. Bibi's softening of his descriptions from those nitpicked here would amount to bidding against himself.
