1. what of the younger men from tel aviv?
meyer ,   israel   (12.04.13)
when they don't report do they sit in jail?
2. Yes it is against the law to skip army to study law
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & NYC   (12.04.13)
He answered the call of his country, and ignored his call up orders "to study Torah." So yes this is against the law. He can not plead ignorance of the law as he "agreed to report to the military induction center for his first mobilization order." His Rabbi has turned him into a test case that will blow up in the Rabbi's face and should put the Rabbi behind bars too.
3. Complete BS either learn to defend yourselves or you will be
Al   (12.04.13)
dead. My youngest son was learning in a Yeshiva in the south for two years after HS. That town happened to be bombed many times from Gaza. At the time of the bombings, he would be in the yeshiva seeing how the frightened yeshiva kids would be calling home, crying they wanted to come home. Well after seeing this and the obvious hypocritical BS that this entailed, he told his mother he was going to enlist. She was beside herself, for now her son would serve. He wouldn't be able to hide behind her wanting him to be a FRUMMIE. When he showed up at the enlistment center with his beard and payos, they asked him why he wanted to enlist. He told them he was there to help defend his adopted country. (He was born in Canada). Today he is a front line tank commander. NOTE TO THE FAKE FRUMMIES> Stop the charade...either learn to defend the country like everyone else or you will end up dead. The enemy does not differentiate between you and a chiloni.
4. Tribal mentality
Todd ,   Canada   (12.04.13)
Seems more and more that these haredi sects are acting like the tribal dynamic you see very prevalent in the arab world.
5. arrests
Nigel ,   London   (12.04.13)
If it is illegal to draft dodge and the Yeshiva heads are advocating breaking the law, surely they should be arrested for as they are advocating illegal activities. No one is saying it is illegal to study Torah
6. Arrest Rabbi Shmuel Auerbach
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & NYC   (12.04.13)
He is encouraging people to break the law and should also be in jail pending trial.
7. Nothing better to do..
Alex ,   ISrael   (12.04.13)
.. these folks, as always, have..
8. Not against the law to study torah
Jacob E ,   Holon, Israel   (12.04.13)
But it is against the law to fail to show to your army draft. I'm sure he can have no problem studying torah during his sha'a tash before going to bed each night and on the busses and trains to and from his base. More than enough time.
9. And the government (we)
Reuven ,   Netanya   (12.04.13)
Pay them to do this... freaking absurd, all in jail or send them to Iran
10. Work anybody?
Ari ,   Boston   (12.04.13)
Hundreds of charedim protest in the street with no effect on productivity. How do these grown men have time to go and hold signs in the middle of the day? Right, they don't have JOBS or anything to do. Studying all day is a luxury and tax dollars shouldn't be funding it.
11. Chanukah..Cohanim fought Greek forces.
Roland Seener ,   London England   (12.04.13)
Kol Israel is responsible for its brothers. We are fighting for the survival of our Religion today.Given the chance Hebron 1929 would be repeated .It is naievety to think that this cannot happen today... Mercaz Harav is a case in point. Hashem expects every man to do His duty And Military service is one of the duties,(unless there is a very very good excuse.)Every case of deferment must of course be judged on its merits.
12. Demonstraters "outside" ?
Raptor   (12.04.13)
They should be inside.
13. throw them in jail!
nadav ,   tlv   (12.04.13)
No one, including rabbis, have the right to carry out sedition and treason against the state. They should be jailed! period.
14. yeshiva student's arrest
Mordechai ,   Beit Shemesh   (12.04.13)
keep him there as long as it takes until he agrees to go straight from prison to induction center. Arrest all the rabbis who tell their pupils not to respond to their call-up papers. and take them to an army base to do all the menial work, cleaning the toilets et cetera, very quickly they will change their tune!
15. no, sorry, able bodied have to go into idf
geroge`   (12.04.13)
no exceptions, you have to go into idf and do your part to defend the state. this idea of 24/7 praying without doing physical work to build defense of self and state is dump and stupid, bloody stupid.
16. All this hullabaloo for 14 days prison ? spoiled brats !
barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (12.04.13)
17. Perfect example of solidarity.
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (12.04.13)
18. These young people were born normal
Sagi   (12.04.13)
and unfortunately for them and society, their parents and mentors, who all suffer from a neurological disorder, and in some cases depravity, have turned them into robots incapable of determining between right and wrong and incapable of confronting the hurdles of life. A determined effort must be made to get the message over to them that Torah study can be a part of life but not the total sum of life.
19. Calling Ora .................
Andrew ,   Tel-Aviv, Israel   (12.04.13)
20. 11. How about yeshiva army dodgers learning to fight
(12.04.13)
21. This Auerbach,is a Mesith Umediach,
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (12.04.13)
and should be put on trial for high treason.
22. Ora = are you insane?
Taxpayer ,   Hod Hasharon   (12.04.13)
Solidarity with who - Chi Zvallah? - Hammas?
23. Stop government funding immediately
Hedgehog ,   Israel   (12.04.13)
These young men are receiving government stipend to study. They should be off the streets in the kolelim. If not, deduct per diem from their stipends.
24. 17 ORA.Solidarity with a Poreck Oll ?.(rebel)
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (12.04.13)
Instead the Haredi yong men should give a shoulder to the secular and religious yong men and women, who carry the load without complaining,i suspect, the real reason behind the Haredim refusal to serve in the IDF,it is more comfortable to quwetch the banch in a heated or air conditioned room, than to lay in ambush in a cold winter night on the border.
25. i agree with this young man
david ,   new york   (12.04.13)
the haredi draft law has only one reason for existing: trying to destroy haredi culture in israel. they will never draft the arabs (even to national service) because the arabs would never stand for it and because its the haredim they are after, not the arabs. the question for me is: do they have enough people to swamp the system? the israeli judicial system is stretched ridiculously thin (almost no criminal are actually sent to jail). how many haredim in prison can the system actually handle? anyone of the talkbackers have inside knowledge about the capacity of the israeli prision and judicial system??
26. Chanukah..who fought whom
Aaron Kuperman ,   Baltimore, MD, USA   (12.05.13)
The holiday celebrate how the hareidim defeated the seculars (the latter assisted by some outside goyim). The government is working hard to convince as many hareidim as possible that they were better off under the pre-1914 status quo ante. It is unlikely that IDF will benefit from unwilling and possibly disloyal conscripts, but the Palestinians' position that peace requires a return to pre-1914 rules (A sing Islamic state solution) will be seriously advanced if a tenth to a fifth of Israeli Jews agree with it.
27. israeli prison system stretched thin
david ,   new york   (12.05.13)
looks like there are only 17,500 prisioners in israel. a mass protest by haredim likely would easily overwhelm it.
28. Jail the rabbi he is a traitor
Haim ,   TA   (12.05.13)
A traitor to the state of Israel. Naturally him and his ilk have no problem living in this country off seculars tax money and sleep well at night knowing that the decent young men and women of this country are out there on the front line protecting them, while they contribute nothing. If they have a problem with that i suggest they transfer to Afghanistan, i will personally arrage the bus to the airport.
