Rest in peace, beloved Madiba, we will all miss you. You were truly sent here by G-D. A nation mourns an icon. Farewell. From Paul the white African Jew.
2. Nelson Mandela
Harold ,   USA   (12.06.13)
Nelson Mendela was anti-apartheid, anti-colonization and anti occupation. He was against Israel's occupation of the Palestinian lands. He was pro creation of a Palestinian State living in peace side by side with the state of Israel.
3. There is only one statesman....
Robert ,   Australia   (12.06.13)
....in the world today who could even come close to Mandela and that is Obama.
4. A great leader, except for his friendship with Arafat.
Tahl   (12.06.13)
Mandela was a great and inspiring leader who helped liberate his country from the oppression of Apartheid in a nonviolent way. Nevertheless, his friendship with the terrorist Arafat, and the way he let himself be manipulated by the Palestinians to support their anti-Israel propaganda, is the one bad stain on his otherwise venerable biography.
5. Madiba
Birdi ,   Israel   (12.06.13)

Zechariah   (12.06.13)
Mandela was a fine man but had many Faults. But he was a Giant compared to Many other Leaders Particularly in the Arab World .He is a good role model for the African and Other Peoples Great Courage a man of action and reconciliation. But South Africa now is a Dystopia with high murder Rates and Corruption and acts of Barbarity. But there are far worse countries.
8. Worlds most respected leader ever.
Peter Morris ,   New Zealand   (12.06.13)
The greatest world figure certainly of our time. Therefore it would be wise to take on board Mandela's views on the Palestinian/Israeli divide. A simple Google search will unearth them.
9. Do not confuse Madiba & Tutu
Johan Fourie ,   Sandton RSA   (12.06.13)
Madiba loved Israel. Tutu hates Israel. Most South Africans love Israel.
10. 1 the sa Jews who emigrated are with you too

11. RIP
Abdel Karim Salim ,   Jerusalem   (12.06.13)
12. Looking out to Robben Island
Claude ,   Cape Town & London   (12.06.13)
This beautiful sunny morning as I see Robben Island in the distance I am reminded that Madiba truly bore no hatred or sought revenge. So as all the usual suspects pen their regular contributions with anti IL , anti Semetic rhetoric or racist comments about Arabs and jibes at Palestinian aspirations, they will never have the humanity of Madiba . As committed as he was to the aspirations of Palestinians for their own Sovereign State, it never negated his admiration or respect for the Jewish People or the legitimacy of IL as the Jewish Homeland. Yesterday all races were sharing the beaches, white families adopt black orphan babies, black bank tellers serve white customers with a confident smile. Despite huge social and economic problems the country has much to thank this man for.
13. To the truly greatest South African
Brett Levitas ,   JHB South Africa   (12.06.13)
We thank you for uniting kurt country and its people. Without this man this continent and country would be a very dark place indeed. A visionary and brave man who did the impossible. You leave behind a sad nation but a united people.
14. Madiba you will always be in our thoughts..
Ivan ,   South Africa   (12.06.13)
15. Reconciliation was his middle name
Raoul ,   Herzliya. Israel   (12.06.13)
Something from which we are light years away in this part of the world.
16. Great man and INSPIRING leader, I RESPECT you !
Oscar ,   Tlv   (12.06.13)
17. who cares
michael weinreich ,   cape town   (12.06.13)
he was anti semitic. he hated Israel and the jews stop making such a big fuss over nothing.
18. # 17 , I care, we care, they care, he cared
Claude ,   Cape Town & London   (12.06.13)
To # 17, he was most definitely not anti Semetic nor anti Israel. ALL South Africa was indeed very lucky to have had him and De Kerk to lead the country towards a new path. I doubt you could ever be either a leader or a man of his genourous warmth and humanity. Take a look at Robben Island today , look at the faces in this wonderful City and hang your head in shame.
19. Mandela: President, Leader but sadly, a terrorist!
Jim Yakamoto ,   Israel   (12.06.13)
While no one can dispute Nelson Mandela's achievements regarding reconciliation and the unification of the people of South Africa, it is very sad that the man who was responsible for Mandela's release and the demise of the abomination of Apartheid, former President F. W. De Klerk, has been forgotten. With all his leadership and achievements, Mandela will never rank with people like Gandhi or Aung San Suu Kyi because unlike them, Mandela opted and supported the arms struggle and terrorism raised its evil head in South Africa. Some South Africans will never forget nor forgive the horror of the Johannesburg Station bombing. The question now is whether President Zuma, who symbolizes the saying that the "rich get richer and and poor have children and live in squalor", can hold a very divided South Africa and ANC together? That was not the Mandela Dream but it is the reality of South Africa today.
20. we really don' t care ! He just fought for his cause...
Frederic   (12.06.13)
21. Dear Michael Wienrich
Brett Levitas ,   JHB South Africa   (12.06.13)
He may have been all those things but if it wasn't for reconciliatory and peace making heart you, and all the jews in this country would either be in Tel Aviv or Sydney. I am very sad today as i realise his value to the people of this wonderful country!! Thank G-D for this man who forgave even the afrikaaner who put him away. You should be thanking your luck stars it was him that took over and not Mbeki. I personally am indebted to Mr Mandela and am very sad today.
22. What he did for the world : NOTHING !
(12.06.13)
23. Take a Good Look, Jews
Makina ,   New York, USA   (12.06.13)
This is what happened in the last Land of Apartheid ("apartness"), and it is no different from what will occur in the new Land of Apartheid, Israel. After all, who was the one country that stuck with Apartheid South Africa until the end, as it's BFF? Israel! You can't escape the march of justice, freedom & history. You can only delay it with oppression, until it poisons you fundamentally, which is already being seen in the venomous personalities & behaviours of the "settlers" and "right wing" and "religious" in Israel. Tick tock.....
