With respect to the Lady concerned, this is nothing more that common sence. It is not any form of prejudice.People from the UK are not acceptable as blood donors either , because of a medical condition prevelent in the U.K.It is no reflection on the individual.

I understood that for years Brits could not donate blood in Israel in case they were carriers of Mad Cow Disease. We didn't scream racism. Was there at some point a reason to have questions about Ethiopians? If not, then the rule must be changed in consultation with the medical authorities.

It's about historical exposure to diseases of various population groupings. I agree that it looks bad and racist but they should first examine the reasons why these population groupings are excluded.

This is not about race...it is about international medical rules all country place on blood donations.......brits are not allowed to, also other groups. Brits and people from Ireland can't donate and you don't hear them screaming. Get over it. Better to err on the side of caution. Profiling is one of the only ways to try to be safe.

In a life or death situation you people would accept blood from a hog, and you are lying if you say you wouldn't. I was severely anaemic during my pregnancy and was facing a blood transfusion because no iron supplement was making a difference. I wouldn't care if the blood came from a Jew or a Muslim, gay or staright, black or white - if it would save my life and let me raise my child. All donated blood is screened for disease, regardless of its ethnic background. We should be grateful to anyone who is willing to give blood in order to save another life, not write discriminatory remarks.

As I'm ethiopian I want to know all the facts b4 I scream out over racism. Some of you mentioned that the rule of refusal is there for others too. But don't they check all bloods they recieve through donations for any kind of desease anyway? If so what's the point of not taking certain group of people's blood?

When we had a similar scandal in Canada, we eventually dealt with it. The idea that there are good "medical" reasons is nonsense -- you can't isolate infected blood by population group, you have to check all of it anyway, or else you have a faulty system to begin with.

Why is anyone so willing to give out their blood? Blood is nefesh. Nefesh is part of one's soul.

When I was a youngster our local hospital kept blood by type and race (O positive Negro) or B negative White etc. Of course that was Mississippi in the fifties. I had hoped that Israel would have made a little more progress in combatting racism over the past seventy years.

If someone is afraid of taking blood from a certain group of people because of a history of illness or disease that does not make he or she a racist.today it seens that everything is racial or anti-semetic. no need for your shame-shames.

Blood donation services in Canada and the USA both have histories of refusing blood from ANYONE (black or white) who lived in Africa for a certain amount of time, because of the AIDS and malaria risk. The race of the person is immaterial, it is where they lived that matters.
