1. When Mother Nature gets really angry,
A ,   Belgium   (12.14.13)
no one can be prepared. The US ("Katrina"), Japan, the Philipines, etc....we really shouldn't p*ss off Mother, but we're constantly doing a fine job of it, and this is her answer.
2. Stop complaining??? THIS WAS A DISASTER!!!!!!!!!!!
Shaul ,   Jerusalem   (12.14.13)
With a million Russians in this country Israel doesn't know how to deal with 10 inches of snow??? NO sidewalks are shoveled. The roads are a disaster. We need snow plows not Humvees (stupid!). (I actually saw 2 snow plows in Jerusalem on Friday. Both drivers had pulled over to the side of the road and were out sitting in a coffee shop talking. For this we pay taxes????) It will take a WEEK of warm weather to clear the streets because our "authorities" have NO IDEA what to do.
3. cry babies
kapriza ,   tsafon   (12.14.13)
What a country of whiners we've become!! You'd think the government was responsible for the power being out. What happened to the Israeli spirit of dealing with a little adversity? Grow up, babies and be thankful for the water!
4. Cry babies
Anshel ,   Canada   (12.14.13)
Unfortunately, no matter how much you are prepared, when it comes to natural disasters, it takes time to restore all the services. It is unfair to criticize the authorities, it takes sometimes days or weeks to restore the power lines, those are only the facts of life. As long there was no loss of life, only inconvenience for some off the affected, they pray and should thank the authorities from doing a commendable job. Take it from someone who went through few bad snow storms, lived through Sandy, power outage on the East of North America.
5. Why didn't you clear the roads instead of just closing them?
Give me a break ,   Jerusalem   (12.14.13)
Does Europe, Canada, the US, Russia etc. shut down roads for such a small amount of snow? Of course not. Sheer INCOMPETENCE.
6. mother nature delared terrorist entity
joe clap ,   usa   (12.14.13)
7. !! Even US "Recovers" After a Storm
Ovadiah ben Avraham ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (12.14.13)
Think about it. When there is a major storm in the US, no matter how well forecasted and how well prepared for, there is always the description of how many homes lost power and how many days it takes to restore some of them. When the lines get knocked down that is simply an existential reality. Roads need to be cleared. Tree limbs must be disposed of. It takes time. Get over it!
8. I wouldnt expet Israel a warm weather country to be able to
Al   (12.14.13)
handle this event. GROW THE HELL UP and stop the bitching and whining. You have to help yourselves in such a situation. Granted you are not prepared, that is a given to but to bitch up a storm just proves how totally useless you really are. You don't drive without snow tires. You don't have them you don't drive. You weather proof your home. You don't want to, well then you have yourself to blame. You wear warm clothing, You don't have them well then you are cold. The list goes on and on. You must help yourselves. The government is not your wet nurse.
9. Seattle was paralyzed by snowstorm of the decade
Jake   (12.14.13)
in February 2012. The city and airport were shut down. Why? Because despite being one of the most prosperous cities in America, it is a city unaccustomed to large quantities of snow. Try to put things in perspective. Israel AIN'T Alaska, and it AIN'T set up to deal with Alaskan conditions.
10. cold/snow
David Asleson ,   Minneapolis, USA   (12.15.13)
Come live in Minnesota where wind chills are 40-60 below zero F.
11. Rah! Rah! Snow! School's out! Let's shout! Harrah!!!
Rivkah   (12.15.13)
12. Snowplows are dangerous in cities. One nearly killed my
Rivkah   (12.15.13)
husband's father who was crippled with M.S. in Chicago long ago. The only dog my husband ever owned since he would never allow that one to be replaced in his heart, got killed, pulling the disabled father out of the way of a snowplow, biting John K.'s coat to pull him over out of the snow plow but that caused the dog to be thrown into the machine and he died instantly. So perhaps it is better to let the snow melt in a few days in climates where that is possible. Snowplows are dangerous.
13. Snow
Zvi ,   Sweden   (12.15.13)
I have more snow in my freezer. Amazing how a few snowflakes can bring a modern nation to a complete stop. Get with it Israel, would ya!
14. Jerusalem munincipality
A Jerusalemite ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (12.15.13)
I want to say a good word for the Jerusalem city 'moked' (Help center). I am a mature woman living alone. I called them for help and it was forthcoming within a very reasonable time. I got food on Friday and on Saturday night they sent a volunteer to dig out my front walkway so that I will be able to leave the house on Sunday morning.
15. I'm amazed
Ellen ,   Israel/NYC   (12.15.13)
Some of the complaining that is going on is amazing. Yes, my heart goes out to those without electricity. However to expect Israel to spend the money on massive snow removal equipment when this storm is the first of its' severity in 50 years or so is inane. Shoveling sidewalks.!!--in NYC and every other place I've lived in the US it is the responsibility of the homeowner/building or business to shovel their own sidewalks--we all own snow shovels. How many Jerusalem resident own snow shovels? So, maybe you should all go buy them for the next time. BTW I attended university in the snow belt of the US. The type of snow removal equipment there puts NYC --with its' sanitation trucks fitted with snow plows to shame. However, one wouldn't expect NYC to spend the money on the type of equipment snow belt cities have. It is just not feasible. So, in summation, put on layers, crawl under blankets and deal. It isn't pleasant but you will survive. AND if someone is so ill and elderly--than call the authorities--they WILL help! I do wonder how many are upset because they cant recharge devices and are going through internet withdrawel.
