We don't know how many copies exist of the material Snowden stole. Just because he says he'll turn it all over does not mean that he hasn't kept copies as insurance. He stole that which does not belong to him, and which can severely compromise the security of the United States. In fact, the material which Snowden has already leaked has been hugely embarrassing to the United States. Snowden should not get a free pass. What he did is far worse than what Jonathan Pollard did. In fact, Snowden is guilty of treason. No one has been tried for treason in the United States since Aaron Burr. Hopefully, the NSA has instituted better vetting procedures of outside contractors. There is no right to privacy for those who handle top secret materials, and we are still not sure how much material he has stolen. And whether it is for sale to the highest bidder. The United States Code, there are only two possible penalties for treason: life imprisonment or execution. Snowden is lucky he is not a member of the military -- active or reservist. Then, there is only one penalty for treason: guess which?
