1. Personal responsibility
mea   (12.15.13)
The best idea is to provide for yourself instead of waiting to be rescued. Every family with children should have alternative heat and lighting sources. Instead of sitting in a cold room under blankets, spend a few hundred shekels on a small portable generator that will power a small heater, stove and lamp. I cannot believe this guy sat in his house instead of shoveling the chicken coop roof. Be prepared.

cans and enough drinks. Believers don't consider this snowfall as a quirk of nature but as may be a warning of G-d, to make us aware how to be prepared for same situation of isolation, caused by "has vehalila" an eventual war . Am Israel might avoid a war by being united.

I have gone 4 or more days w/o electricity. We has a snow and ice storm. I used snow to keep the refrigerator cold. Packed it in plastic bowls, dish bins and set milk and others in it then put it in the fridge. It worked. Save the chickens: Build a small fire and melt the snow to give them water. If the roof collapsed, you may be able to warm the coop and yourselves. Use common sense, preserve life. You can cook on a campfire as well. Pass the time reading Torah.

I cannot believe #1 Personal Responsibility. In the first place, there is no one to know whether or not the person has or hasn't taken personal responsibility. I don not believe Mea as any clue on this. Secondly, we all pay exorbitant taxes. Shouldn't these funds be allocated to ameliorate the suffering of citizens subject to natural disasters. If you were right Mea, than why must we pay taxes at all?
5. #1! You are out of order.
AVouskila ,   South America   (12.15.13)
You read too much of Ann Rand. The famous writer was talking about individual responsibility.in face of a Society that does'nt fulfill one's expectation. Anat was talking about a family who is facing nature force which is beyond her, but with the hope that a civil authority (the State, the Regional council, and most responsible is IEC who has not even moved one iota to assuage the living suffering for the children and the welfare of the group. They knew that the Snow was closing in Israel, after Syria, Jordan Lebanon, they could have distributed batteries for each family and some advices as to how to keep up in case of isolation.) The State has failed: it does not consider all its citizens on the up and up level. It reminds the seniors how they were left to find for themselves when they first arrived to the whole Merom Hagallil in the early 50's. Same old, same old stupid ignorance and lack of humanity!!!!
6. To: No. 3
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (12.15.13)
I would purely love to see how Israelis would cope in the wake of a Hurricane Katrina or Irene, or a Superstorm Sandy. All the whining is beginning to grate on my last nerve. Weather happens! BAD weather happens. Get used to it, and quit complaining about every little thing!

I understand going through all that. I grew up in the south and was in a shelter for many a hurricane! I remember one in Key West Florida! Any way, no home should be with out a small generator. And in Israel... most stoves are propane or gas. Seal off the kitchen, sleep as best as possible and it will eventually be OK. Just don't let that gas run unattended!
8. Why is food going bad?
Ephraim ,   Jerusalem   (12.16.13)
We can sympathize with out brothers and sisters in the North. We also sat 2 days without power. Our prayers are with you, and we hope today everything gets sorted out. Just curious about one thing....How can food be going bad in the refrigerator? Just pack up the food and put it outside or on the balcony.
9. learning....
MICHEL ,   ASHKELON   (12.16.13)
The worst is that I can`t believe the authorities have learned the lesson and that next time will be the same but now without excuses they will be criminals.

Ther is a crime called "non assistance to people in danger" and this administration is in till the neck.
11. Government is government
Yossi ,   Arad, Israel   (12.16.13)
Having come here from the States and witnessed how the Federal Gov't always without fail botches every disaster, I've learned that each individual needs to be proactive and not be dependent on the government. Do what you gotta do! It will save you lots of grief.
