The rebels will not stop fighting until Assad goes and Assad will not stand down so we have a stalemate and they are going to keep killing each other until the best man wins. Best solution for Syria is end any attempt to keep it as a single entity on the model it was before the war and instead create a federation based on an ethnic, religious and cultural divide. Carve up the country into regions give the groups living in those regions a degree of self autonomy with a federal government at the top. Like every other country in the region Syria was an artificial European creation anyway so if it was created artificially it can be changed. Maybe unite Syria with Iraq create a giant federal state it might bring stability to both countries, also be good for Syria as its a poor country unite with Iraq and get a share of Iraqi oil wealth.

Boy, I bet the world must be happy that Assad managed to murder his civilians without resorting to chemical or biological weapons. Is the Nobel Peace Prize already taken this year?
