26 Talkbacks for this article
1.  But, but Obama said not to announce new building
Noodles ,   Coney Island   (12.25.13)
And we all know how unhappy he gets when things don't go his way....oh well, he'll have to get over it.
2. It's nice of us to build homes for Palestinians
On the Balcony   (12.25.13)
isn't it? The aim of the talks is not a "framework agreement" but a final agreement on the key issues of territory, refuges, security and sovereignty which will satisfy the requirements for a two state solution. Should Israel be seen as responsible for the failure to achieve this goal the threat to its survival will be greater than ihe existential threat posed by a nuclear armed Iran. And rightfully so.
3. Need to get to 1 million Jews there
GetTo1million ,   Jerusalem Israel   (12.26.13)
the figures quoted are 100,000 Jews short should be 650,000 and growing need that 300,000 to reach 1 million Jews in Judea and Samaria and not just in the "settlement blocks" the more isolated settlements communities need boostering otherwise great areas will be lost
4. "John Kerry has urged restraint"
C   (12.26.13)
if john kerry and his boss were interested in restraint, they would not have bullied Netanyahu into releasing mass murderers for the privilege of talking to abbas.
5. 2 Israel is here to stay
C   (12.26.13)
only a deluded person would think that a sovereign state with a powerful army, would just disappear based on the whims of some foreign politician.
6. to no 2
Jennie ,   Israel/US   (12.26.13)
You need to get down from your "balcony" and tune in to simple facts and reality on the subject... Your perception of non-existing "talks" about so-called key issues is naive at best and is "screaming" of your total cluelesness on the subject...Israel will never give up its 3000 years old ancient sovereign and strategic hills of Judea and Samaria to an enemy, who need yet to recognize the right of Israel to exist, instead of causing terror acts and calling for our destruction...In the eyes of people like you,Israel is always made responsible...The more we give in, the less chances we have to live in peace....
7. securing Israel's future
jericho ,   causa   (12.26.13)
8. One is yet to hear a single good rational argument why Jews,
N.L.Katz ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (12.26.13)
only because they are Jewish, must refrain from dwelling at the heart of the Jewish people's ancestral homeland. Isn't even suggesting that Jews must not reside, anywhere under the sun, let alone in their homeland, is an act of racism, anti-Jewish racism at that?
9. Announce. Get slammed. Cancel. Repeat.
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (12.26.13)
This game Netanyahu is playing is becoming painfully obvious. He didn't want to formally announce a construction freeze as he's done that in the past, and it cost him politically (while accomplishing nothing). So instead he announces the release of prisoners, with hints of construction in compensation. So the coalition holds together. What happens then is all too predictable. Prisoners are released. A construction initiative is announced. The move is denounced by the PA and EU, deemed "unhelpful" by the US, and Netanyahu orders the initiative cancelled or suspended. This pattern played out after the first two terrorist releases, and it will play out after the next. Netanyahu ends up looking weak as he caves before foreign pressure, still earning a reputation as a "peace spoiler", while betraying his supporters. Why does he think it will play out any better this time?
10. Absolute Israeli Victory
Chaim ,   Israel   (12.26.13)
Absolute Israeli victory over our mortal "Palestinian" foes is the only true path to peace. Same as with the Nazis.
11. Israel's survival
Alan ,   ohio   (12.26.13)
So Arab attacks on Jews doesn't threaten the so called peace process but building on land agreed to by all parites in 1922 will destroy Israel's credibility! Are you nuts...what a ya gone to do about it...nothing!!!! And if the Arabs start another war Israel should not stop and conquer adjacent land which will be legally theirs. So go to hell.
12. oh I can't take the pressure from kerry
arieh   (12.26.13)
I have to accept kerry's plan because the pressure is too much says bibi so he offsets with some announcement of new buildings which will be frozen. What a crybaby and gutless weakling! Look int he bloody mirror and say No to kerry and end of story you bloody wimp!~!!!
13. #2 Palestinian peace talks
Benji ,   US   (12.26.13)
They are no more viable than nuclear talks with Iran. The Palestinians have communicated their intent with placement of the bomb in the Bat Yam bus. These recent acts of terror provided further justification for Israel to keep building.
14. Wise men and idiots
(12.26.13)
Wise men look for comprehensive and fair solutions, idiots continue to thwart such solutions by building their golden-calf settlements and release terrorists.
15. #5 If a country is rotting from inside
(12.26.13)
no sovereignty or army will save it.
16. The talks ought to be defined: Peace-for-Peace, period.
NLK ,   Israel   (12.26.13)
17. Best news coming out of Israel
Barney ,   USA   (12.26.13)
Only soiled by release of terrorists. Everything has it's price
18. #15 hits the nail on its head. All Arab countries are rotten
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (12.26.13)
19. It seems these settlements are being bought with blood of
tom ,   tel aviv   (12.26.13)
terror victims (prisoner releases followed by construction plans) Did anyone calculate pint/ml per dunam quota?
20. just talking!
tiki ,   belgium   (12.26.13)
21. Why does AP refer to Rawabi as
A ,   Belgium   (12.26.13)
"The Palestinian planned city" with a beautiful aerial photo, yet Ariel, a city with a population of over 18,000 which has been in existence for almost 40 years, is represented by a vague photo of a street corner and is called a "settlement"? Are AP journalists and photographers hired according to their level of hatred for Israel? And why does Ynet even publish this garbage?
22. One does wonder ...
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (12.26.13)
.... what sort of pressure is Kerry putting on Abbas? I haven't detected any. There doesn't seem to be any arm-twisting with respect to Abbas -- Kerry is worthless. No point in any stupid and prolonged meetings with him, or any other United States representative. Keep building in Judea and Samaria -- Israel is in dire need of affordable housing -- and tell Kerry & Co. to go to hell. So far, only Israel is being pressured to make concessions. We're the victors -- the victors do not have to make concessions. Has everyone forgotten this?
23. #19 Real estate bubble, Israeli-style
(12.26.13)
When it bursts it will be pretty bloody.
24. # 3 Due to the persecution of Jews world wide
BUILD BABY BUILD ,   United States   (12.26.13)
and the absolute necessity of securing their successful immigration into Israel Israel MUST have an abundance of plenty of affordable homes. This assures their future and that of Israel. I've long maintained that the death penalty for all anti Israeli pal terrorists would end the immoral release of pal murderers. That is still a must also. KEEP BUILDING NO MATTER WHAT !!!!
25. #14
(12.26.13)
A year ago Netanyahu announced Jewish building in E1 In the meantime, the only building is illegal Arab building while Netanyahu does nothing
26. 2000 houses is not a massive construction
200,000 houses is   (12.26.13)
