The U.N. is totally useless. The Israeli response is also questinable. Massive firing back without causing damage?
4. UNIFIL is a big joke
Brod ,   USA   (12.29.13)
Israel needs strong leaders to defend the homeland decisively like 1967. Failure to do so, would endanger Israel's existence and deterrence. Israel should be concerned about its survival and existence and not what the Dhimmi world of Obama and Aston says. These idiots are remnants of the Nazi world.
5. collateral damage
David ,   Montreal Canada   (12.29.13)
If the Lebanese gouv't can't stop this human shield BS, they should be considered as collateral damage. No country should be held by mediatic turmoil and loose their own citizens.
6. I'm sure everyone in Northern Israel will be able to sleep

soundly, knowing that the UNIFIL "troops on the ground are working with the Lebanese Armed Forces to reinforce security". And of course, a severe condemnation of Lebanon by the United Nothings and the Extermely Ugly Ashton are soon to be forthcoming!
7. hezbollah's role

the things to remember about hezbollah: they are in the lebanese government. this is no longer about a regional militia provoking action along the border, but should be "escalated" politically to get them thrown out of government. hezbollah has a massive arsenal of tens of thousand of rockets that hit every major city in israel. it's time to start neutralizing that threat, either via unifil and the actual implementation of unscr 1701, which called for the disarming of non-state militias, or by less diplomatic means. hezbollah just assassinated an anti-syrian politician, and like the murder of hariri, this flare-up is probably intended to divert attention from that bombing. it would hurt hezbollah more if israel did not turn this into an israeli-lebanese confrontation, but concentrated instead on undermining hezbollah's relations with the non-shiite lebanese. clandestine retaliation against syrian and/or iranian assets would send a strong signal to hezbollah's masters, but not garner any favourable press or political brownie points at home, so it probably ain't gonna happen.

11. UNIFIL ==is== responsible
Bluegrass Picker ,   Afula   (12.29.13)
They are running around with de-facto State powers - diplomatic immunities, armed forces. We must let the commanders of UNIFIL taste what Gaddafi tasted.... Reagan bombed his personal compound, killing a beloved daughter. We must clarify to Serra's senior staff that they are in a war zone, not a Swedish Army parade ground. Send 1 or 2 of them home with their limbs blown off. That will adjust the attitude of the rest of them.

Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (12.30.13)
To date they have not disarmed a single terrorist, nor have they prevented a single terrorist attack. These are required in their mandate. I think that we should start targeting both the Lebanese government and UNIFIL. They are part of the problem

Israeli is on the right track in using somewhat massive retaliation at the launching sites of rockets/mortars etc. There needs to be an immediate response and the amount of shells fired needs to be appropriate to accomplish a total destruction of the immediate area of the launching sites hopefully eliminating the launching apparatus and the launchers themselves. Our radar systems and drones can immediately pinpoint the location and our artillery can respond. Once the populous understands the reaction expected from any hostile action they will demand that the rockets no longer be in the area of homes, hospitals, schools, mosques and government buildings. Stop this stupid blowing up of empty buildings and farmers fields miles from the launching sites and hours or days later. Make our reaction a real message.
