On the Balcony   (01.03.14)
As you well know, there is no law that specifically distinguishes sovereign from "nonsovereign territory" or "defensive" from offensive wars for the simple reason that international law prohibits the acquisition of ANY territory by the use of military force and the Geneva Convention specifically prohibits the civilian settlement of occupied territory . Please read the 1967 internal legal memo prepared for the PM of Israel by Theodor Meron. Israel has known from the start that civilian settlements would be considered illegal under international law. In 1967 Thomas Meron was legal adviser to the Government of Israel. Today he is an ICC Judge and President of the International Criminal Court Tribunal. Go argue with him.
