1. half truths
Michael ,   Haifa   (01.10.14)
In quoting you : "In principle, I am against peace agreements based on half-truths which are worse than lies", you select "facts" from a vast range of facts that are convenient for your conclusions. You ignore (or dismiss) other facts that are inconvenient, because they come from the narrative of how the other side percieves reality. It says a great deal about your own lack of honesty. People in glass houses should not throw stones.
2. I agree
Rube Vogel ,   Jerusalem   (01.10.14)
The main part of any peace agreement is what happens when the Arab terror continues. What is the deterrent? I suggest "land for war". They give up permanently on 1sq kilometer of land for every attempted terror attack.
3. Brilliant opinion piece!
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (01.10.14)
The author has nailed the crux of the problem -- the Arabs are not interested in peaceful co-existence with the State of Israel. They are interested exclusively in the destruction of the State of Israel, and have been the aggressor in six wars attempting to do just that. They failed. But now they are stuck with the folly of their deeds. They are owed not a thing. It is time to treat the vanquished aggressor like ALL vanquished aggressors have been treated throughout history. Loss of land and territory. Forever. It is time for the Arabs to take ownership of their bad choices, and to move on. The State of Israel is not going anywhere. The State of Israel will ultimately include Judea and Samaria. The Arabs who reside therein will be repatriated to Jordan, country of their citizenship. They will have to make their way in Jordan. That can be THEIR state -- what right does a half-British, half-Iraqi king with a Kuwaiti bride have to rule over the "Palestinian" people, anyway? The international threats and bullying ought to be directed to Jordan, not to the State of Israel. Jordan was twice defeated by Israel. It is time to make the tiny Hashemite (whatever that is) king toe the line. Even if it means remaining as a powerless figurehead or even relinquishing his invented throne.
4. Ocupy
Marian ,   Romania   (01.10.14)
This area was occupied by Iraqis led by Abraham/Ibrahim about about 4000 years ago and later by Egyptians led by Moses about 3100 years ago. All of them mix with the local Canaanites and adopted their language.
5. the truth
daoud kuttab ,   Jerusalem   (01.10.14)
The truth is that Israel is occupying Palestinian land since 1967. the truth is that Israel is illegally confiscating Palestinian land in contradiction of international law the truth is that Israeli army is protecting this illegal settlement and colonial policy
6. Occupy
alan ,   ohio   (01.10.14)
Let us count the contributions of all the Jews versus all the Muslims over the last century. Don't bother...we know the answer!!!!
7. Truth

Finally someone has the courage to speak the truth! Thank you!
8. About # 5

Sad but true - All of it !
9. Judea/Samaria belong to Israel.
Chaim ,   Israel   (01.11.14)
There is no "occupation". In 1967, Israel liberated part of our more than 3,500 year old ancestral heartland of Judea and Samaria. The "occupation" is nothing but a malignant lie.
10. # 3 If you were living in the peacful village
ben   (01.11.14)
of Dier Yassin had made a deal with the Jewish leaders and then were driven out , you would probably believe the occupation began in 1948.
11. Right wing half-truths
Dan   (01.11.14)
It is not a 'truth' that Jews have rights thanks to some moth-eaten book. We have rights thanks to history, archaeology and, most importantly and as with all rights, the recognition of our rights by others. Anything else is just a claim, and the problem is that the two sides have incompatible claims. Without international backing we have nothing, and the Palestinians have nothing.
12. The truth, no.5 and no.8 via 5, is that
Real Peace   (01.11.14)
previous occupiers like the Turks and Brits may have issued you and yours with pieces of paper showing ownership of property in the Land of Israel, but as it is, such deeds are null and void according to 4000 years of Jewish history and legal continuity. Therefore, no 1948 or 1967 can be ever counted as occupation but rather, re-gaining long-time occupied lands. Finally, when the Arabs grow up and would like peace for the sake of peace, they will be more than welcome.

It was by the religiously justified conquest that the Arabs settled in this land, wasn't it?

It seems you are unfamiliar with the background of the war. According to Hamas Charter, the war started at the latest in 1936. According to PLO Charter, the war started at the latest with the Nakba in 1948. 1967 is significant only for Leftist Jews, not for Arabs.

Not an ounce of truth in your post. You have been given honest answers here, read them until you understand that you information is wrong.

How could Israel have occupied Palestinian land in 1967 if there was no Palestine? Jordan was occupying power in West Bank / Judea- Samaria until June 1967 but Arabs had no problem with that. They had and have problem only when non-Arabs control any land. If that is not racism I don't know what is
17. Daoud #5
Robert Haymond ,   Teko'a, Israel   (01.12.14)
As a journalist, you are quite mediocre as your columns in Maan prove. As to "occupation", your Readers ought to investigate what Moshe Dann has written: The promotion of the Westbank as "occupied" is an announcement made by the International Red Cross, affiliated with the UN. Their reasoning and underlying propositions to their conclusion has never been made public so it cannot be countered. In other words, various dupes and propagandists like you simply accept the Occupation" statement as true without thought or concern for investigating the underlying basis of this conclusion. That's why, in spite of your Princeton education, Daoud, you get published in such propagandistic third-rate news centres as Maan as opposed to any first-rate ones; that's why you are left with a forum on Ynet as opposed to even being a featured writer here.

"The State of Israel is not going anywhere. The State of Israel will ultimately include Judea and Samaria." Your first statement may be pretty accurate. Israel has stagnated to the point where it does not know where it is going. Your second statement, on the other hand, makes you hostage to fortune. Making political predictions is a dangerous business.
19. Bertram #18
Robert Haymond ,   Teko'a, Israel   (01.12.14)
Normally, I read what you write with a good deal of pleasure due to the excellent thought behind your statements but with this one, well, it's a different matter: "Israel has stagnated to a point that it doesn't know where it's going." Come on, Bertram, with all its internal divisions and difficulties, it's economic success and scientific/cultural achievements are outstanding. That does not come from "stagnation". Please be far more detailed and accurate or just admit that here, in this case, you were plain in error.
20. Ben #10 re Deir Yassin
Robert Haymond ,   Teko'a, Israel   (01.12.14)
I would encourage you and other Readers to review, in detail, the following recently published book by Uri Milstein: "The Birth of the Palestinian Nation: The Myth of the Deir Yassin Massacre." It was published by Gefen Publishing House in Jerusalem in 2012.
21. To No. 19
Bertram ,   London, UK   (01.13.14)
Few would doubt the economic, scientific and cultural achievements of Israel. That is not the issue. For my generation, and previous ones, Israel was not only meant to constitute the Jewish homeland, it was also meant to be the model for a new kind of society. Like many other countries, including the UK, Israel is mired in political and moral stagnation, becoming increasingly privatised and inward-looking. I despair as we mouth the platitude each Passover that we should remember others since were once strangers in Egypt. I despair at the prevailing climate in Israel which regards anyone who is not 'us' as an enemy. For Israel to regain direction, it needs to find its compass but I fear time is running out.
