Israel is very affordable, regardless of the hype. Just as people claim Britain is expensive, if you are a person used to being penny wise, Israel is extremely easy to navigate without sacrificing experience. Stay in one of the thousands of private mini apartments stuck on people's houses. Most have kitchenettes. I love making my own food and just taking it easy in someone's garden between forays to sites. The Egged Bus lines are easy to navigate online. The access to arts is incredibly affordable compared to the States or Europe. The beaches are fine, the cuisine is superb.
