1. We should get rid of
Sam ,   PT   (01.19.14)
the shameful Ministry of Religious Affairs (who are anything but religious) and give it over to the Chief Rabbis. Then we should get rid of the shameful Hatnua (Movement party (as in bowel movement)) as well as the Yesh Atid party which will start bringing the country together.
2. Livni & Lapid next step
Sam ,   PT   (01.19.14)
to get rid of the "old-fashioned" Torah once and for all.
3. Why do we even need a Rabbinate?
nadav ,   tlv   (01.19.14)
Judaism doesn't need a "Pope!" Our faiths is personal and community based, which is why to centralizing Judaism- especially in an official capacity, is futile, strife-ridden, and archaic! Abolish the rabbinate, rabbincal councils- in fact, separate religion from State! Let comunities determine who they want as their rabbi or what the observance level should be. THat would not only end the relentless confusion, resentment, derision, and strife between and within religious communities! It would also save billions of Shekels of State budget that goes to maintain a religious establishment that does not even represent the majority of Israelis who pay taxes to support it!
4. I FEEL FAINT AND DIZZY.....
MR CYNIC ,   SAFED CYNIC HOUSE   (01.19.14)
I find myself actually agreeing with Ms .Livni for once. We are all jews and it is sad that judaism ,a beautiful tradition and faith , has become divisive over the centuries. Ashkenazi ,Sephardi etc. we must become united as one people.
5. It is time for equality for Conservative and Reform rabbis
Mark Schweber ,   Short Hills   (01.19.14)
I think the state should not appoint any Chief Rabbi but if it does involve itself it needs to provide equal legitimacy to Conservative, Reform and Reconstructionist Rabbis as it does Orthodox ones and thier actions should be recognised by the state on an equal basis.
6. If Livni truly wants unity in the Jewish state
Shmuel ,   Israel   (01.19.14)
we must get rid of the secular judicial court and its "justice" minister which are neither Ashkenazic Torah nor Sephardic Torah but anti all Jewish Torah laws, a disgrace for a Jewish state.
7. gangsters
Steve   (01.19.14)
As I have said before... The opposite of god is the Rabbinate
8. If there will only be 1 Chief Rabbi
Shmuel ,   Israel   (01.19.14)
will secular Israelis follow this 1 Chief Rabbi or will they continue following their corrupt self-appointed anti-Torah G-dless so-called "judges"? If the answer is 'no' that you have no intention to follow the ruling of the Chief Rabbi, then what is it your affair and why are you meddling in the tradition of religious Jews? It's none of your business, Livni, Bennett, Lapid, Peeron. Stick to what you know best: DESTROYING ISRAEL & JUDAISM!
9. one Israeli chief rabbi ?
TD Wernick ,   San Antonio, TX USA   (01.19.14)
Restore the Sanhedrin, the Great Assembly, as in biblical times... one chief rabbi is not kosher... the US Supreme Court doesn't have... one judge !
10. Livin and Bennet are not qualified on this matter
S Judah ,   Jerusalem   (01.19.14)
As a Sephardi/Mizrahi, I say catagorically that we want a Sephardi Chief Rabbi. We are under represented in the secular judiciary, in the Kenesset, In the Universities, in Business, In finance, in fact in every single walk of secular life, though we are the majority. Now these snowflake heathens want to rob us of our Chief Rabbi as well, not enough they tried to rob us of our culture, traditions and heritage. When will these thieves stop. May the next election be upon us soon and may Bennett, Lapid and Livini be consigned to the dustbin of history. It is very telling that these 3 have no Sephardi affinity.
11. Finally,social problems solved...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (01.19.14)
Hmmm ,not that quick... To paraphrase Lapid at his election campaign. "Where do the money go?" Indeed, where did the money, taken from the Yeshivot, go? Where will this money go?
12. This report confirms the illiteracy in Israel
Haredi Jew   (01.19.14)
among the secular public, including the Knesset Ministers. These illiterates, thanks to the Education Ministers since the creation of the secular state, have no clue to the difference of Ashkenazic ruling and that of Sefardic ruling, and foolishly believe that this a cause of the division of Sephardim and Ashkenazim. Actually, there's no division among haredi Jews, between Sefardim and Ashkenazim, but among secular Jews who are out to destroy "old-fashioned" haredi Jews.
13. 3 The State without religion...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (01.19.14)
might "has vehalila"have, like a plant without roots, a short life.
14. 10Am Ashkenazi,agree with you 100%
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (01.19.14)
The Sephardi community is a vibrant warm society and should not be changed in Ashkenazim.
15. THE BLACK HATTERS ARE UNFIT TO LEAD THE JEWISH PEOPLE
(01.19.14)
there are too many differences among the modern jews to believe in the authority of any black hatted gray bearded jew.
16. The Truth is obviously JEALOUSY
Common Sense   (01.19.14)
Livni and Lapid are not anxious to "bring the country together" but would do anything and everything possible to bring hostility among religious Jews. The jealousy of secular Jews is very obvious. It irks them to no end to see religious Jews living in harmony and peace with each other, unlike secular Jews with their internal strife and constant backstabbing.
17. There are insurmountable differences between the Sephardic
Rivkah   (01.20.14)
and Ashkenazi, so there must be two chief Rabbis or the Ashkenazi will grind the Sephardic into the dust of submission. The Ashkenazi are jealous of the Sephardic Jews since the Sephardic Jews are descended from Abraham and Sarah while the Ashkenazi are descended from Khazars who converted to Judaism long ago unless the Tribes are of Judah and Levi and Benjamin that are more likely to have DNA from Abraham and Sarah. There is nothing wrong with being descended from Khazar converts except that the inferiority complex in such people causes them to want to browbeat and lord it over the descendants who are blood descendants of Abraham and Sarah.
18. 5 Mark Schweber: Reform Jewish Congregations are an
Rivkah   (01.20.14)
abomination to HaShem unlike the Orthodox Congregations. The ELS Scripture codes confirm this. 50% of Orthodox Jews enter HaShem's eternal kingdom. Reform Judaism is so vile that at B'Nai David Congregation which is Reform in Visalia, California, has had a homosexual student Rabbi and has a homosexual female lawyer in charge of the education department of the congregation. The confirmation of the young is replete with statements that homosexuality is all right with HaShem, a lie from the pit of hell. Lisa Stronglin is a lesbian and an abomination to HaShem unless she and her partner in sin repent and forsake their gay lifestyle and partnership. The student Rabbi who was a homosexual would come to the Shabbat service SMELLING like SEMEN, upsetting those in the congregation who know and believe the Holy Scriptures that says sodomy is a sin. Most Reform Jews, like most XTNS, go to hell.
