there are many Muslims in France and one of the basic tenets of getting the next world is to fight in a Jihad. Most likely there are Muslims from all over Europe in Syria, Afghanistan and also soon coming to Gaza.

I thought if you join a foreign army or fighting unit you risk losing your passport and citizenship. Even if you call the rebels not really an army it is still fighting a foreign war which you can lose your citizenship (especially in the USA). Well if the western countries are alarmed simply state that if you fight in a foreign battle not for your country you will lose your citizenship. That should deter allot of people from going!
