No one disputes the fact that Verta is entitled to form his own opinions. In fact, he was likely raised in an environment where that privilege is cherished. They were recently talking about the possibility of stopping teaching arabic in school to save money but there are no plans to get rid of civics. Civics is not a subject students get real life value from so why waste money teaching it when we could teach more useful subjects that would help students in the workplace. As for this incident the school overreacted but the teacher should never have told the students his views. Teachers should guide students in debated but not offer their own opinion. The education ministry now needs to issue clear guidelines so this kind of thing doesnt happen again.

We in America are blessed with freedom of speech. The teacher's problem is not his speech, it's his ignorance. Come let him live here in the diaspora and he might begin to realize how precious Israel is for the Jewish people and as such, he might voluntarily change his opinion while maintaining his freedom of expression.
