Daniel   (02.03.14)
Why on earth would the US intentionally hurt itself?? The EU is the most important trade partner of the US, and a boycott would devastate the economies of both the EU and the US.
2. Right on, Shoula!
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (02.03.14)
3. very simple
Alexpr ,   Germany   (02.03.14)
terrorize the BDS initiators with Mossad Commandos , after they realize there is a big price to pay and they are afraid and scared to sleep a single day in peace. You will see the harassment will stop. if this thugs have nothing to fear they will go ahead boycotting Israel. The best medicine for a bully is hurting him.
4. Indeed... antsemitism should have reprecussions
Daniel ,   TA - IL   (02.03.14)
whether it is ben gurion universities call for boycots or the eu. we can all hurt those who delibrately and demonically try to hurt us.
5. Boycotts work two ways.
A Simple Jew ,   Maale Adumim   (02.03.14)
Israel doesn't have to take the boycott. The PA is totally dependent on Israeli trade. Israel surrounds the PA and embargo its exports and imports. Israel can impose a crushing counter boycott on the PA, Israel can stop EU development projects in Yesha. Israel can let the PA and the EU know that cooperation is a two way street.
6. Agree, but have to mention:
R ,   Israel   (02.03.14)
Great article. I would just add that not all Europeans are hypocritical and bigoted against us. But they may be afraid to speak up due to the climate of fear that already exists.
7. All the boycotters are saying is MAKE PEACE
Sam ,   Kfar Saba   (02.03.14)
I agree that they do not go about it the right way, nor do most have any idea of what is actually going on, but for goodness sake, put the effort in to making peace for future generations instead of playing games. Like it or not, the Palestinians either have to have their own state or equal rights in Israel and until this is acknowledged and dealt with, Israel is subject to being perceived and dealt with in the way we see today. Some vision please from the Israeli leaders- this situation is unsustainable regardless of who you blame for what.
8. Tibi and Horing
D   (02.03.14)
Ahmad Tibi and Shoula Horing are like ideological twins. Both of them spend most of their time trying to undermine the countries where they live and verbally attacking the democratically elected leadership of their respective countries.
9. Start with Fictional Palestine.
Chaim ,   Israel   (02.03.14)
The author is completely correct. There are many laws against clearly racist boycotts against Israel. We should prosecute and sue the bigots. We should also start at the top. FictionalPalestine is the root cause of most boycotts. "Palestinian" leaders circle the world plotting boycotts and genocide. All Israeli support for FictionalPalestine should halt immediately and permanently.
10. Myopic delusions
spyguy ,   seattle usa   (02.03.14)
Why would Asia, which makes most of the stuff the world uses, care about trading with Israel? Unless Israeli companies are willing to sell to Asia for far below market prices, Asia will simply buy elsewhere. For example, China used the US sanctions on Iran to negotiate a deep discount on Iranian oil and now China imports as much Iranian oil as they ever have, but pay much less than $100/bbl that everyone else pays. As for suing local companies in local courts, that is not going to go over very well and will backfire on Israel big time.
11. 15 Million Jews Vs: 7+ Billion Goyim
World Citizen ,   the world   (02.03.14)
Let'g get real here. Even with all the Jewish money in the world (and that is a lot) the Jewish faction is not going to win the boycott wars. The BDS Movement is growing by leaps and bounds. It's high time Israelis and their right-wing enablers in the USA understood that most countries are tired of Israeli intransigence on the Palestinian issue. Sanctions are coming if Israel doesn't change its tune.
12. Time to move
Mio ,   Israel Harava   (02.03.14)
Fully agree , time for action. Long ago Jewish communities and friends wadged a battle to free Russian Jews. This battle epicenter was Brussels! Lets do it again. Europe center in Brussels. Please federate and organize, many who know the system will follow.
13. step after step....
tiki ,   belgium   (02.03.14)
Step 1: throw out all Palestinians working for Israeli firms & individuals! Step 2: entry stop for foreign NGO's/politicians/journalists working for the 'Palestinian cause! Step 3: sue foreign journalists giving out false info & stop issuing working permits for them. Step 4: sue boycotting foreign firms of racism by singling out Israel. Step 5: drop the Jew hating EU, move to the pragmatic East! etc.etc.etc.
14. Boycotts are illegal under United States laws
CJK   (02.03.14)
The Ribicoff Amendment to the 1976 Tax Reform Act (TRA) and the amendment to the Export Administration Act of 1977 prohibit boycotts. It is a federal criminal offense under U.S. anti-boycott laws to knowingly participate in another nation's boycotts or embargoes of third countries. The laws specifically prevent companies, citizens, as well as Fedral, state or local governments from being used to implement foreign policies of other nations that run counter to U.S foreign policy. Forbidden conduct includes, inter alia: 1 Agreements to refuse to do business, or refusal to do business with or in Israel or with blacklisted companies. 2 Agreements to discriminate, or actual discrimination based on race, religion, sex, or national origin. Violators of the laws are subject to fines and imprisonment. Furthermore, the World Trade Organisation also prohibits boycotts as a violation of free trade agreements. Boycotters can be sued in US federal courts, as well as in civil courts for violations of free trade as well as for civil rights violations. Cease and desist orders can be asked in both fedral and state courts. Boycotters can be sued in civil courts for monetary damages. US anti-boycott laws apply to companies that do business in the United States and to companies that do business with American companies. Wherever applicable, suits should be filed in Europe against boycotters. US Congress should pass further legislation to stengthen existing anti-boycott laws.

Spyguy, do you ever do your research? Trade between Israel and China is expanding because China is a great admirer of Israel's advanced technology.

Jason, Ph.D. ,   Charlotte, USA   (02.03.14)
World Citizen, I have read some of your comments that demonstrate clear-cut anti-semitism on your part. (Especially the comment that you wrote about your pleasure over the high intermarriage rate in the U.S., which is reducing our numbers here.) Let me clear about this. This is personal. At the end of the day, the boycotters are very vulnerable to the charge of Anti-Semitism because they consistenly fail to explain why they advocate boycotting Israel and only Israel, and their failure to explain why they blame only Israel for the failure of the peace talks. Let me tell you something else. I am confident that we will win.
18. #11. Boycotts don't scare Israel.
Chaim ,   Israel   (02.03.14)
Israel has always lived with boycotts and become an important power in the face of boycotts. Racist boycotters represent a miniscule part of the world'spopulation. BDS was never strong and it is weakening constantly due to growing resistance. Scarlett Johannson is an inspiring example.
19. spyguy @ 10 - As for suing local companies in local courts
split ,   US   (02.03.14)
They did that already suing Olympia Food Co-op for their refusal to carry Israel products and lost ,... Google "Judge Dismisses Lawsuit Filed Over Boycott of Israeli Goods" for detais ,...
20. Boycotts are illegal under US laws
Harold ,   USA   (02.03.14)
Do you mean that the US laws are applied on the countries of the world including Israel. Wise-up
21. To: No. 20
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.03.14)
Boycotts of the State of Israel by United States firms are illegal under United States law. These laws were enacted following the Arab-organized boycotts of Israel following the Yom Kippur War. The laws remain on the books, however, and I do not see them being repealed any time soon. The laws make it a crime for an American company to boycott Israeli goods, products and services. Get an education, Harold; you should be embarrassed by your stupidity. Besides, there's a common sense factor at play here. Ninety-three percent of the United States' citrus crop has had to be destroyed because of some exotic Asian pest. Unless you want to pay $8.00 for a single orange or grapefruit, you really don't want to boycott Israel. That's where the citrus will be coming until the U.S. gets this latest citrus pest under control -- 2014's citrus crop is shot; estimates are that 2015's will not be harvestable, either. You want to stay on Israel's good side.

Tell me something pal what kind of advanced technology can you steal from us that the Chinese can't? ,... Don't you think they know where this what you call 'advanced technology' comes from and how did you get it?
24. (11) World citizen
tiki ,   belgium   (02.03.14)
15 million versus 7 billion? It's not quantity but quality, not size but performance. Nobody told you that? Must have been pity.
25. Split, #23
Jason, Ph.D. ,   Charlotte, USA   (02.03.14)
I'm just looking at the facts, buddy. :) Trade bewteen Israel and China has expaneded from $50 million in 1992 to $9.91 billion in 2012. I don't have the figures for 2013, but I'm sure the numbers are continuing to increase.
26. REPLY TO WORLD CITIZEN
NEIL D. CHASE ,   BRIDGEPORT, CT USA   (02.03.14)
To be a World Citizen is to appreciate the day in which we live. Perhaps you can increase that understanding. Live a year in Israel. Then live a year in Iran, Egypt, or Saudi Arabia. After that you may no longer shun the light like a vampire.

So tell me where does it say an advanced technology? I bet looking at your Auschwitz's marches of the living you have spend there at least a couple of billion for the flags and T-shirts ,...
28. #27
Jason,Ph.D. ,   Charlotte, USA   (02.03.14)
Two-thirds of Israel's current volume of exports to China derives from two companies: Intel Corp., which exports to China chips designed and manufactured in Israel, accounting for about one-third of the total Israeli export volume to China. The other third comes from Israel Chemicals, Ld. (ICL), which ships chemicals to China.
29. #28 - The two things you mention ...
spyguy ,   seattle usa   (02.04.14)
China can easily get from many other places. In case you don't read Asian press, Intel makes hundreds of millions of chips in China and Intel could shut down the fab in Israel with no problem. Also since China regularly ignores Intellectual Property, soon Chinese companies will be making everything Israeli companies make. Asians have no problem reverse-engineering anything Israel can come up with, so do NOT count on the Asian market.
30. Pathetic Europeans
Greg ,   Pottstown, PA   (02.04.14)
Great article. The Europeans leading the boycott movement are being overrun by immigrants from Islamic countries which in conjunction with their so called progressive agenda have put them in a state of permanent decline and eventual irrelevancy. Israeli technology is among the best in the world and very attractive to the Asian countries and should be heavily marketed to them.
