The US has no good options. (1) the US can not put any further direct sanctions on Iran because there is no trade with Iran. (2) The US can not put any further third-party restrictions in place because it will cause the rest of the world to tell the US to shut up and go sit in the corner and the other countries will drop all restrictions, start openly trading with Iran and severely punish US companies. (3) the US can not attack Iran because it will get severely beat and China will gain a lot more power. (4) the ONLY thing the US can do is get the best deal they can and walk quietly away. If Israel wants to start a war and suffer the terrible consequences, go for it.

Not accusing her but just thinking out loud. Why would people who directly benefit from them, oppose the sanctions? On the other hand, Russia and the Gulf boys would encourage the sanctions indirectly. After all their businesses will slow down if west moves in.
