As has been acknowledged, Israel's public relations effort is very poor indeed. It's all very well boasting about successes in advanced digital technology, medicine, manufacturing etc., but many people throughout the world now see Israel as the oppressor, and the Palestinians as the victims.
This is very, very different from those heady days of the late 1960's when Israel, after being attacked by multiple Arab armies won, and gained worldwide respect. If you don't remember the 1960's, you weren't there!
And at that time, Israel has a left wing government, still driven by left wing Zionist ideals. It was a case of 'We all stand together', not as seems these days, 'It's every man for himself.'
They were amazing times and I wa a very proud Zionist, living in Israel and making a living as a press photographer, mainly working of PR photography for government ministries and agencies.
Public Relations then was quite easy; everyone love Israel. Today, things are very, very different.
Israel urgently needs to improve its image. I hate to say it, but this also means changing some of its actions. It means dialogue; open dialogue.
It means listening. And it means being realistic as to where Israel stands or falls within an international community.
