1. I pity the haredi yeshiva students...
robert ,   Antwerpen (2018)   (02.04.14)
because they have been brainwashed and suffer terrible pressure from their co=students and Rabbis. I'm sure that many would like to do some civil service or army duty but are afraid to do so
2. Now, try to enforce it ,...
split ,   US   (02.04.14)
They're going to start making babies at 18 ;) ,...
3. Stopping the funding is only first step
Sagi   (02.04.14)
Second step is jail for desertion and dereliction of duty.
4. There are judges in Jerusalm

5. But
A Jerusalemite ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (02.04.14)
While I believe absolutely that the Haridi population must participate in defending the nation, this ruling seems unfair. It was the government, in the person of Moshe Ya'alon, that delayed the draft. Doesn't seem right to me to punish the yeshiva students for a government decision.
6. TORAH SAYS: GO TO ARMY
DA TORAH EXPERT ,   SAFED OBVIOUS   (02.04.14)
Also GO TO WORK ( what's their excuse ??)
7. misuse of the army
david ,   new york   (02.04.14)
trying to use the army for social engineering purposes is damaging to the army and to the security of the country. this was done also with the gaza disengagement, when they used the army (not the police) to expell the jews from gaza, so that the national religious youth would have to fight the army and seem anti-patriotic. now the army doesnt want haredim and obviously taking a large group of people who are against everything the army stands for into the army would clearly damage the army and its (still relatively high) morale. still, sinat chinam knows no logic. attacking the haredim is the goal. if the army is damaged because of it, so be it. israel will pay a heavy price for this and it will be made much weaker
8. #6: ?torah says go to army??
david ,   new york   (02.05.14)
i see you are "da torah expert" as you say, but please dont be such an israeli (i.e. someone completely sure of how right he is despite being totally wrong). israel, unfortunately is not populated by people with great insight into themselves: you are assuming that the state of israel is not something antithetical to judaism. if you did, then you couldnt say that. from the perspective of the haredim (and i'm not so sure i disagree with them), the state of israel is primarily there to destroy judaism and assimilate them into some neosocialist ideology.
9. draft
Jonathan Ottenstein ,   Brooklyn   (02.05.14)
what about drafting israeli arab youth why are they getting a free ride
10. Shooting oneself in the foot????
Aaron Kuperman ,   Baltimore, MD, USA   (02.05.14)
Only pro-zionist yeshivos received government funds, so the only ones hurt by this are those that have been supporting Israel. The anti-zionists are funded privately and are unaffected, and are in fact strengthened since their competition on the hareidi street is being undermined by the state.
11. David in New York
Al   (02.05.14)
You sound like the many nebby schnorrer haimeshe petz who live in Boro Park New York sponging off section 8, food stamps medicare medicaid etc etc. Stay in New York, marry your first cousins and inbred yourselves to oblivion. Us real Jews will outlive you as you descend into the abyss of fanatic delusional nothingness. Your Jesus Christ are your Rebbes. You have absolutely no connection to authentic Judaism. You are simply impostors. You are insignificant when it comes to modern day Israel. You are insignificant when it comes to the Jewish peoples future.
12. #9 Israeli Arabs?
Israel Judges ,   are hypocrites   (02.05.14)
What about secular Israeli "Jews" (if you want to call them that because their grandmother was Jewish). Do you know that almost 40% of them don't enlist and only haredim are penalized?
13. Once again
Aryeh Zelasko ,   Beit Shemesh   (02.05.14)
So once again the self appointed judges of Israel's Supreme Cult have engaged in subversion and rebellion against the State of Israel. It is the Knesset that legislates and determines how public funds are to be used. There is no basis whatsoever for a court to determine how public funds should be used.
14. No New Legislation
Ami ,   Tel Aviv   (02.05.14)
No new legislation is required. There is already legislation requiring IDF or national service. Now it must be enforced equally for all Israelis, with no exceptions.
15. #9, Arab IDF will reduce killing, harassment of Palestinians
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (02.05.14)
16. Hahedim
Edouard ,   Montrealcanada   (02.05.14)
About time to stop funding this useless citizen that are not working, not serving, That are expecting the state to give them everything and give nothing in return Less of them in israel would be a blessing Being a rabbi is NOT a job
17. #6 The excuse?
Israel Judges ,   are hypocrites   (02.05.14)
You and everyone else know the reason quite well. The army is as treif and unkosher as pigs and morally corrupt where no religious Jews may step a foot in. Since the same rule does not apply to secular jews , the high-court of Injustice are nothing but haredi anti-Semites. Then you wonder why there's so much anti-Semitism in the world, when Israel, headed by corrupt judges are the biggest anti-Semites.
18. Laziness
Oren ,   Jerusalem   (02.05.14)
Why can't they just work like Haredim in the US or anywhere else in the world? It seems hypocritical to not recognize the laws of the state but then take money from the state, calling it their "right" under the law which they don't recognize. Justify that one under the laws of Rambam and the Talmud...all I see is extortion and theft
19. Finally some common sense
Haim ,   TA   (02.05.14)
If they dont like it, they are free to leave the country
20. The reason I left Israel
Avi ,   USA   (02.05.14)
can be summed up in one word. Haredim.
21. Haredim claim that Only Haredi payers can save Israel. Ergo,
Sage of the Age ,   Israel   (02.05.14)
the lack of rain is the fault of something wrong with Haredim praying all anti-semitism is the fault of something wrong with Haredim praying the Holocaust was the fault of something wrong with Haredim praying everything [add to list here] that goes wrong is the fault of something wrong with Haredim praying Conclusion: the Haredim are fakes. We need to fire the Haredim.
22. #12 Penalising Haredim?
Birger ,   Jerusalem   (02.05.14)
The yeshiva boys are not penalised. OK, they lose some privileges. So what? Any secular (or Arab) youth, not going to the army have to provide for themselves, and, if they study (often something useful, like medicine, engineering or economics or at a teacher college), they also pay their full tuition. So, who is penalised?
23. Never start a fight with Rabbis...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (02.05.14)
it is a lost cause.
24. #11: Al
jake ,   southern Israel   (02.05.14)
I would write here what YOU sound like, except that the guardians against "comments containing incitement, slander, racist slurs and inappropriate language deemed to violate our terms of use, etc. wouldn't publish it.
25. Half work
(02.05.14)
This decision smacks of racism and a double-standard. Israeli universities are heavily subsidized for everyone. The tuition paid by students is laughably low. In the spirit of the High Court decision, people (like Adam Verta) who did not serve in the IDF or did not do National Service should pay the full cost of their University education.
26. #15 just like Arab troops in Syria
(02.05.14)
