1. Would they have to become christions ?
Moshe ,   Usa   (02.08.14)
Or would they just resume life in their ancestral homes praying like conversos in their basements ?
2. Step one ...
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.08.14)
... has been achieved. Step two -- compensating the descendants of these Jews for the property, businesses and other things which they were forced to leave behind when they were expelled from Spain.
3. Better Late then Never
Joe Mevorah ,   Lincoln, USA   (02.08.14)
As a probable descendant I feel absolutely nothing at Spain's late attempt at admitting their stupidity. just what I need dual citizenship to a two bit country.
4. Who want’s to be a citizen of Spain?
Rich ,   Toronto, Canada   (02.08.14)
The country is economically destroyed, and people are getting out of there as fast as possible.
5. To fatten them up and slaughter them again.
Jack ,   San Diego, USA   (02.08.14)
6. Only one year behind Portugal ...
Michael Redbourn ,   Lisbon Portugal   (02.08.14)
7. Please do the full research
Leon   (02.08.14)
The post-Franco constitution already recognises Sefards' right for immediate settlement into Spain, and in contrast with other foreigners whose citizenship must wait I think five or ten years, Sefards' have only a two year waiting period. This law builds on what the constitution has said for many decades now. Bosnian Jews during the anti-Muslim wars in Yugoslavia settled in Spain by the hundreds and were given government aid and job opportunities.
8. A slightly interesting bit of empty symbolism
Cameron ,   USA   (02.08.14)
Next, the re-establishing of the Kingdom of Granada.
9. "Many .. kept the keys of the house
Cynic #2   (02.08.14)
from which they were expelled" Very interesting. There is a parallel in modern times. So may be justice will prevail for the Palestinians after 500 years from now ?
10. Sad and revealing reactions
Daniel   (02.08.14)
So a foreign country does something nice, and every single reaction is negative, hostile and some bordering on racism. You do realize that modern Spaniards are not guilt for what happened 500 year ago, right? It seems as if far too many people commenting here are genuinly interested in seeing Israel cut off from the entire world. That is as dangerous as it's sad.
11. #4
Jacques ,   Montreal   (02.08.14)
Once you get the Spanish citizenship, you can live in any of the EU countries. I will definitely apply!
12. This is very wise of Spain to make amends for the expulsion
Rivkah   (02.08.14)
of the Jews in 1492 which resulted in the judgment of Spain and the loss of its Armada in a war with England and the loss of its empire status in the world. Just as Britain lost its empire status for betraying the Balfour Accord which should have given the Jews a homeland at the end of WWI (World War ONE!). I would suggest that King Juan Carlos get his fanny to the Western Wall once a year and pray there for rain and other blessings for Spain like the kings will be required to do during the Thousand Year reign (Millenium) of Christ on Earth. Get a headstart on the Lord's favor. Show the Lord Spain wants to be a sheep nation not a goat nation. Nations are going to be judged on whether they were kind to the Jews or not. Sheep nations are those that are kind to the Jews. There will be seven sheep nations that stand with Israel at Armageddon. Will Spain be one of them? I hope so. I hope the USA will be, too. Even with BHO as President, nothing is too hard for the Lord.
13. To stave off regional independance?
Paul ,   Morocco   (02.08.14)
I wonder if this move came in preparation for the referendum in Catalonia to give that province independence from Spain. The central government in Madrid may be counting on their newfound and bannished Jewish subjects to help save Spain's territorial integrity by giving them the "opportunity" to vote against the "separatists" in Catalonia and in the Basque Country. Should they?
14. #12 Rivka, The funniest one a bozo from Arizona has written.
Michael ,   California, USA   (02.08.14)
Where do you get such hilariously funny and idiotic ideas? You should do standup comedy, for free of course if you would want anybody to show up. Now, why do I read your funny writings? Because it is free, of course, and it smells like an Arizona vulture.
15. Reparation anyone?
Natalli ,   Tel Aviv   (02.08.14)
They are trying to come of it cheaply...
16. @2 go do ur homework!
(02.08.14)
with very few exceptions Spanish Jews were just as poor as most of the Jews murdered in the Holocaust. Of course the first tning a crack lawyer like you would look for is money. Shhessh you are pathetic.
17. in order not to damage my USA citizenship...
(02.08.14)
the Spanish citizenship needs to be bestowed upon me, meaning this is a crock of refried beans because if I apply and the USA finds out then I stand to loose my USA citizenship. Let's see USA citizenship versus Spanish citizenship? What do you think I am going to choose?
18. With the Spanish economy failing...
Miguel ,   Salamanaca   (02.08.14)
now we want the Jews back to fix things.

20. Darn Catholics ,...
split ,   US   (02.08.14)
If they can go all the way to1492 and let the Jews return what stops the zionist Jews to go to 1948 and let the Palis get back their land and homes? They were there before the zionists showed up ,...
21. Oh come on, #14
Cameron ,   USA   (02.08.14)
Rivkah definitely has a somewhat esoteric take on matters, but always a kick to pad through, and a needed break from the usual, predictable talkback yammer.
22. 14 Michael, CA, USA: Only the wise recognize wisdom.
Rivkah   (02.08.14)
People outside HaShem's camp do not understand the wisdom of the Holy Scriptures.
23. 17: You will not lose your US citizenship if you have dual
(02.08.14)
citizenship because the US Supreme Court recognized dual citizenship in a case in which an American citizen tried to surrender his US citizenship and only be a Canadian citizen to escape taxes. That was rejected since the US Supreme Court recognized dual citizenship. The problem with dual citizenship is that such people are going to be the first to be rounded up for FEMA camps when the government decides to blame them for problems and wants to deflect attention away from the real cause of problems. Spanish citizenship would be a protection for Sephardic Jews traveling since they would be less likely to be targeted by terrorists.
24. Let them know who they are?

But you can have EU ctizenship!
26. #22, I definitely am outside your camp of comedy club jumbo.
Michael ,   California, USA   (02.08.14)
But I like comedy clubs in general, the ones with recognizable intelligent stuff.
27. Most of the Sefardic Jews...
Adina ,   Amsterdam   (02.08.14)
Most of the Sefardic Jews from Spain went to Amsterdam, Holland. So if they want to give away passports they can just look around in the Jewish community of Amsterdam. There is even a Spanish/Portuguese synagogue in Amsterdam. But I already got an European passport so I don't need a Spanish one.
28. ??? ,...
split ,   US   (02.08.14)
There're Palestinians that keep the keys to their houses from which they were expelled in '48 and later, what about them Mr. Gallardon? ,...
29. acknowledment for something 500 years ago
(02.09.14)
Next thing the Romans will be apologising for colonising Britain
30. My husband and his family could apply...
Susan ,   Kfar Saba   (02.09.14)
but I dont really know anyone who is interested. Maybe Spain and the Catholic church should start by giving back all the property they stole, especially the shuls they turned into churches. It seems hypocritical to me that religious people pray inside stolen property.
