1. JUST MAKING FUN OF HIMSELF !
FO ,   Belgium   (02.13.14)
Abbas' red lines are based, among others, on UN resolution 194. He just forgot that all six Arab countries then represented at the UN voted against it (Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Yemen, all were parties to the conflict in question). So Abbas is just making fun of himself !
2. Where are israels red lines?
Alexander Scheiner ,   Israel   (02.13.14)
What about Gaza? Does the deal with the PA include Gaza? Or will Gaza go back to Egypt? The Population is anyway egyptian. The PA, with PLO, Fatah and Hamas are the winners thanks to NIF, Betselem and the infamous JVJP.CH and other pro-palestinian jewish NGOs. rememberamalek.blogspot
3. Refugees
Sammy ,   Newcastle   (02.13.14)
Think The sheer madness to provide generous compensations to finance Palestinian Refugees to end up living and investing their money in...Israel? We are building a Palestinian State that will be a Homeland for ...Palestinians. That why we want and welcome our Palestinian Brothers and Sisters to share in this exciting venture in Palestine to bring their skills, their money, their contacts to build an exciting and prosperous future and a wonderful homeland for all Palestinians everywhere
4. Partition Plans of 1937-8 Rejected
Zechariah   (02.13.14)
The Jews accepted the Principal of Partition and the Nazis agreed to emigration even after the conquest of Poland .Therefore the Arabs in Particular except maybe Transjordan ans Islam in general Has ResPonsibility for letting the Nazis Genocide the Jews.Turkey in Particular was Particularly cruel a lot of Jews could have escaped through Turkey with Tempory Refuge as Turkey was Close. So Abbas will have to find with Islam Other compensations for refugees and a Turnaround in security arrangements and so will his People.
5. In other words, Kerry stuff it.
Avraham ,   Netivot area   (02.13.14)
Abbas has no intention of reaching any agreement with Israel. He's convinced the international community will give the PA everything without them giving up one single thing.
6. this is a great deal and should be accepted
zionist forever   (02.13.14)
ITS A GREAT DEAL FOR ABBAS SO HE SHOULD ACCEPT We give up all the land & the settlements We give up E Jerusalem & the holy sites We release all terrorists no matter what crime they committed or would they do it gain once the deal is signed and the withdraw begins. We agree to a right of return based on resolution 194. If Abbas wants ROR based around resolution 194 then he should say that anybody born after 1948 is not a refugee so has no ROR because the resolution applied to the original refugees not their descendants who had not been born in 1948. Abbas of course will not recognise Israel as a Jewish state.
7. Okay, time to pack it in
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.13.14)
The "Palestinians" are not serious. They are not negotiating in good faith. They are just trying to reclaim position on the international stage, what with having been ignored for twenty whole minutes while the world turns its attention to things that really matter. Annex Judea and Samaria, repatriate its Arab population to Jordan, country of their citizenship, and let Kerry gather his frequent flyer miles on a Washington D.C.-Amman junket.
8. Abbas's "red lines" provide credence to the astute...
N.L.Katz ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (02.13.14)
... observation that "the Arabs have never missed an opportunity to miss an opportunity" for peace. Will they ever learn...?? And, will the enlightened world ever appreciate this phenomenon...??
9. If those are the red lines, why negotiate?
Larry ,   Or Yehuda   (02.13.14)
They are not entitled to any land by international law
10. Abbas is biding his time ...
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.13.14)
.... waiting for Obama or some European lackey to call the agreement deficient because it does not call for Israel to withdraw from Jaffa, Haifa and Akko.
11. #5 no
(02.13.14)
Abbas has outlined exactly what Kerry and Obama have in mind.
12. #9 every inch of the WB is occupied Palestinian land
Lynx ,   Palestine   (02.13.14)
That is per The Hague, ICJ, the UN, international consensus. In brief, get out.
13. To All Commentators
Harold ,   USA   (02.13.14)
Abbas repeated what the world, excluding Israel, is demanding otherwise there will be no peace.
14. to Sammy
Goldenberg ,   Guaruja   (02.13.14)
Please elaborate! First, it sounds to me as you were sarcastic, but then I wonder, maybe he's not. So, I'm confused, would you please comment?
15. Same Arab Demands Since 1967.
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (02.13.14)
In 1967, the Arabs attacked Israel. They lost the war, and they lost the territories. Despite the fact that they attacked us and lost, they made demands. They were the aggressors, yet they made demands? Chutzpa. They are still making demands. The same unacceptable demands. They have learned nothing over the last 45 years.
16. Pal demands mean status quo remains with more+more settlers
Sam ,   Canada   (02.13.14)
Palestinians, get ready to welcome more and more Jewish neighbours. This will be the result of your uncompromising demands. While you wait for Israel to be destroyed, Israel will build all around you without annexing the territory and without giving you citizenship.
17. 8
zionist forever   (02.13.14)
Obama is a weak president & Kerry only interested in his legacy so they don't want to push Abbas to far. If Obama had been a strong president he would have banged heads and we are going to sit here until we get a deal both sides can grudgingly accept. Abbas knows Obama is weak and since he got his UN upgrade he is not interested in negotiations he wants to go to the UN get them to pass a resolution agreeing to every single demand he makes. All he needs to do is drag it out a little, make no concessions blame it on Israel say the UN is the only option. When he first took power after Arafats death and he was negotiating with Olmert he took things seriously because he saw how Arafat had failed now he wanted to succeed. Now he has got a real ego boost with his UN upgrade, he plans on retiring when he agree to hold the next presidential election so he is acting like a good old fashioned arab dictator and its all about him and not the people he is supposed to represent.
18. Abbas
Brod ,   USA   (02.13.14)
Abbas cannot set up red line. He should be begging for mercy and peace from Israel. Abbas and his band of thugs are not the superpower in the region. If Israel gives them a place to stay in the Land of Israel, they should be grateful. The number one enemy of America, Israel and the Free World is Islamist-Jihadism that Abbas belongs.
20. #8 Thank heavens for small mercies
Norbus ,   JERUSALEM   (02.13.14)
Soon, the hands will be full to feed the throngs. They eat Foul in Egypt. Abbas does not want to give up the begging bowl that provide untold riches, in hope of an Arab final solution for the 4th Reich
21. East Jerusalem
Akiva ,   NYC   (02.13.14)
East Jerusalem includes the Old City, the Jewish quarter the Temple Mount, the Western Wall, the Mount of Olives .... To hand this over to the PA is unrealistic. When Jordan captured East Jerusalem in 1948 they destroyed dozens of synagogues, most traces of Jewish antiquity and used ancient grave stones from the Mount of Olives for floors of latrines. Even under Israeli control the Arabs have continued destroying Jewish antiquities, even pretending Jews never lived in Jerusalem. What can we expect if we hand over our ancient capital? Neither Balfour nor the Mandate included an Arab capital in Jerusalem, and Churchill was on the record as saying Jerusalem should be the capital of the Jewish National Home, which should be on the entire West Bank from River Jordan to the Mediterranean Sea. The 'Partition Plan' was an act of perfidy, much as the League Mandates Commission in Geneva condemned the 'Black Paper' for violating the terms of the Mandate.
22. Abbas framework...
(02.13.14)
That was Abbas framework to Kerry so why Abass not keeping it secret until nine months expired so that some of us don't conclude on it that he gets absolute nothing?
23. # 13 The world
Moshe ,   Israel   (02.13.14)
a) "The world" does not support the return of all Arab refugees to Israel. b) The world does not care about the grave security perils which will face Israel once it withdraws to the pre 1967 lines, as it did not care about the extinction of Jews during the holocaust.
24. To One Commentator: You still don't have a clue & never will
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (02.13.14)
25. The PA made its "tough decisions": no compromises,
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (02.13.14)
I found it curious that Kerry and his crew kept insisting that Israel and the Palestinians would need to make "tough decisions". Why the word "decisions" rather than compromises or concessions. The Hebrew word for negotiation is "masa u'matan" - getting and giving. So what are themPalestinians prepared to give up? Apparently nothing. The Palestinians in this statement are saying "We expect all our demands to be met and we're conceding nothing." Given that the US and EU have made clear that Israel will be blamed if the talks blow up, they've removed any incentive for the Palestinians to deviate from their maximal demands.
26. #14. Lets examine the issue from an Economic Perspective
Sammy ,   Newcastle   (02.13.14)
The point Im making is that with over 500,000 Palestinian immigrants expected to arrive into a State of Palestine over a two year period ...many from the West Including Savings, Proceeds from Asset Sales and International Compensation we could see inflows of their Capital in the region of $10 billion or more into the Palestinian Economy which would otherwise go to Israel It doesn't make sense from a Palestinian Economic perspective to have Palestinian Capital and Palestinian Skills and Palestinian Entrepreneurs benefit Israel
27. Pardon me Harold @ No 13
Mike ,   NZ   (02.13.14)
The rest of the world can go to hell . . they dont have to live next door to Abbas. By the way do you have a spare bedroom at home to take in a few Pali's . . . yeah right !! Why dont you guy's give back Okinawa to Japan and Hawaii to the Hawaiians and for that matter American Samoa to the Samoans. . . bloody hypocrite.
28. Terrorists freed?
Raph Brous ,   Australia   (02.13.14)
So Abbas arrogantly demands that every convicted Palestinian murderer is freed from their legitimate sentence? That is totally unjust to the victims' families. It is a mockery of justice. A bad, bad deal.
29. The west bank is 'occupied,' by Arabs.
David ,   Hartford USA   (02.13.14)
Judea and Samaria are part of Israel and the Arabs squatting there should move to Jordan, the true 'Palestinian' state. Abbas is like a mob enforcer- 'give me what I want or something bad might happen to you.' Dear Mr. Abbas, we don't frighten anymore. Go shtoop yourself.
30. US GIs enter from Jordan & transfer Arabs to Mecca for Peace
