The point of creating a Palestinian state is inter alia to give the Pal refugees a place to return to inside Palestine. Arabs fled Israel for a variety of reasons. Abbas said his family fled Sefat in 1948 fearing Jewish retribution for Arab massacres of Jews. Most Arab fled to help the Arab war effort to destroy Israel. Some were pushed out as a potential fifth column.

Abbas wants to look moderate so as to invite pressure by liberal Jews and the West on Israel. In reality, Canada was given the task of finding solutions for the Palestinian refugees but Abbas and the Palestinians REFUSE TO COOPERATE. Abbas "the moderate" is no moderate. He gets more support from the West by looking moderate.

I do not know what Abbas wants, but it is irrelevant because Palestinian society is democratic. The Hamas Charter, supported by 80% of Palestinians allows no compromise on the Right of Return. The PLO Charter that Abbas is sworn to uphold and that is supported by another 15% Palestinians, allows no compromise on the Right of Return.

Anyone who heard the speech knows that it was very flexible. Abbas said that the rights of the Palestinians come from living in Israel for thousands of years. All that Abbas needs to do now is change the PLO Charter to define a Palestinian only as someone who can trace their lineage to thousands of years in Israel (not 66 like now) and there will be peace.

Abbas has been talking about 250,000 Kerry was thinking more like 80,000. Olmert and Barak were both talking about 5000 as a family reunion gesture but no formal recognition of ROR concept. Once you accept the idea in principle you can say I will let a certain amount to come to Israel as part of this deal but legally your admitting they have that right so there is nothing to stop a legal challenge for anybody wanting to exercise that right in future. Unlike Arafat and Abbas himself when he was dealing with Olmert Abbas doesn't seem to be offering Israel sovereignty over the Jewish Quarter or Temple Mount he is instead promising full freedom of worship for Jews at the Western Wall but the Temple Mount will not be shared. Sounds to me he wants to share the Kotel but own Temple Mount outright and even Arafat agreed to Israeli sovereignty over the Jewish Quarter and the Kotel.

Why not let Palestinian refugees come back and live in reservation camps, like native American Indians still do in some areas in the US. Where Palestinians live today is not much different. The Jews, living in settlements, kan turn their places into regular cities. When will this tragedy end?

Even in a reservation your a citizen and citizens have the right to vote and contribute toward the demographics. Indians are American citizens and they are not obligated to live on the reservation, let palestinians be citizens if they decide they are bored with living on the reservation and want to go live in Tel Aviv they are allowed. What we do need is reservations for the Bedouin so the Negev can be developed properly but you cannot create a palestinian reservation in Israel.

Abbas has no serious interest in making peace what he wants us for talks to collapse with him looking like the victim so he can go to the UN for a solution. Negotiated talk fail, Abbas uses his new UN upgrade to look for the UN General Assembly to pass a resolution agreeing to ever single demand he makes from most trivial - most important. The US has no veto in the UNGA so the non binding resolution will pass almost unilaterally. Israel refuses to adopt it so there is a lot of pressure on individual countries to place sanction on Israel until it adopts a resolution which passed by such a huge majority. When sanctions hit Israel hard enough it will agree to the resolution agreeing to every single demand.
