1. 3 cheers for Israel

2. A popular cause
bob wisby ,   tel aviv   (02.22.14)
Well done Israel! By displaying our allegiance to such a hip and popular cause as homosexuality is, we draw much needed support from people all over the World who might otherwise be repelled by our treatment of the arab refugees under our care. Whoever thought of this gimmick deserves a medal. Brilliant!
3. I will not go to the showers in IDF bases anymore

4. wait a minute, Israel is pro gays?
Marty Folb ,   San Francisco, CA   (02.22.14)
I do music shows at symbiosis, burning man, etc. All my friends have told me Israel is extremely anti gays, and anti Muslims and Christians. I heard crazy stories about gays being put in prison for life in Israel. And after I saw this article, I saw many many pictures of men kissing and holding other men's hands in Israel uniform. Plus I found many many pictures of gay pride in Israel. If this is true, then I wonder how many other lies I've been told about Israel. Keep this up Israel. In very happy to know this. Right now it's about the only place in the middle East that would accept me. Now I'm thinking about visiting tel Aviv. Thank you for treating people like me with openness.
5. Wonderful! Such good news! and to #3
iselin ,   oslo   (02.22.14)
Do you really think that a gay person would make a pass at you? Never. They can spot someone like you from a mile away. I go to the gay nude beach in Oslo all summer. Beautiful people with good bodies, clean toilets, no screaming kids, fatties or litterbugs. Finally gays are free to be themselves. By the way, I have never made a pass at anyone there and never will, but I have had a lot of good conversations. Finally treated equally. It's about time. Good for the IDF.
6. Photo is a fake
Ibrahim Ibn Yusuf ,   Rosario, Argentina   (02.22.14)
Unfortunately the picture illustrating the article is a fake. The soldiers in the photo are not a couple, and only one is gay. Google "Army’s ‘gay soldiers’ photo was staged, is misleading." Yet another fail for Israeli propaganda!
7. State's Army
Ariel ben Yochanan ,   Kfar Tapuah, Efraim   (02.22.14)
B"H - If the state's army is gay friendly than there must be a problem with the state's Jewish character, because in the Torah homosexuality is an abomination.
8. # 4 Marty
Moshe ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (02.22.14)
You have seriously been told outrageous lies about Israel - at least regarding LGBTQ issues. Pride is celebrated openly in at least 5 big cities with people flocking from all over the country to join the festivities in Tel Aviv, which are fully sponsored by the City Hall. I have a ton of openly gay friends in the military and they range from regular soldiers to commanders. In religious neighborhoods there is a "Don't ask, don't tell" policy, but NOWHERE IN ISRAEL ARE GAYS, MUSLIMS OR CHRISTIANS harassed or put in prison for being gay, Muslim or Christian. Read about LGBT rights in Israel on Wikipedia and you will see that Israel is far ahead of most western countries in terms of LGBT rights!
9. Gay soldiers
Dror ,   Haifa, Israel   (02.22.14)
As long as they are not afraid of fighting and potentially having to kill the enemy than I have no problems with their being gay soldiers. If they are limp wrist-ed and effeminate and cannot function as soldiers than they should not be combat soldiers they can serve in other positions.
10. Sorry,but no straight shooting,
Pride IDF soldier   (02.22.14)
11. #6 the difference between 'staged' and 'fake'
(02.22.14)
obviously the picture is staged, but how is it fake? that's like calling commercials fake because they're scripted. the image meant to represent something, and it did. and if anything, the point that one is guy and the other isn't just shows that a straight Israeli man has no issue holding hands with a gay man.
12. Friendly is a wrong word, tolerant.
Miron ,   USA   (02.23.14)
We are no friends of people who deny procreation in the name of sexual pleasures.
13.  #6 and #11 this one may be staged but...
hetero granny ,   Israel   (02.23.14)
I've seen IDF soldiers (male and male and female and female and male and female) holding hands round about Tel Aviv ... particularly during Pride Parades...its not a big deal its just people being affectionate. Nothing wrong with that. ;-) its called being in love!
14. the IDF is gay friendly go look at the benefits packages...
hetero granny ,   Israel   (02.23.14)
in the event of the death of a serving soldier the IDF provides benefits to his or her gay partner in the same way that it provides survivor benefits to a heterosexual partner. It's called equality before the law.
15. Not a standard God would sanction
Galut ia ,   Selah   (02.23.14)
16. Thank G-d
Yakov ,   TA   (02.23.14)
haredi Jews are not part and never will be of this filthy immoral army.
17. to #15 and 16
iselin ,   oslo   (02.23.14)
To #15 How do you know? You and your cobelievers do not have the last word on this, no matter how much you think that you do. To #16 What good are "clean, moral" minds, if the bodies enclosing them are filthy? Deodorant and soap are not bestsellers in certain areas of Israel.
