It's really rather sad. Lebanon was once the pearl of the Arab world. Yes, the Christian-Moslem balance was delicate, but the Lebanese made it work. Lebanon was the banking capital of the Middle East -- a forward-looking, prosperous nation, one that had the good sense to stay clear of the Arab-Israeli conflict.
Then came the "Palestinians," and everything went to hell. The delicate balance between Christian and Moslem was destroyed -- literally. Everyone remembers Israel's incursion into Lebanon; no one seems to remember why. The Christians were being slaughtered, and no one seemed to care. Beirut was turned into a PLO stronghold.
The "Palestinians" bring joy and cheer wherever they go. Not the least reason why they are personae non grata in most of the Arab world.
An independent "Palestinian" state won't solve anything. They'll just expand the locus from where they can export the violence and terrorism that seems to come from them so naturally.
I am dreadfully sorry for what happened to your country. It seems that the only country that has ever cared for the future of Lebanon is Israel. Perhaps someday Israel can help to restore Lebanon to its rightful place in the Middle East. I think we all know what has to happen first. Hezbollah has to go. One or another way. They plan on taking over Lebanon. Israel will never let that happen. And someone has to put an end to the carnage, and the rest of the world simply doesn't care. That's the terrible part.
I wish Lebanon well. What is going on should never have been allowed to happen.
