Reuven ,   Netanya   (03.07.14)
That is like Iran asking the US to visit their nuclear infrastructure. If you have nothing to hide, why not complying? Instead, he is making more unnecessary costs on our back!
2. Britain and EU countries have Muslim prisoners far out of
Alan ,   SA   (03.07.14)
proportion to their numbers in the general population. They deserve someone to see that they are being well treated in prison. A lot of them are terrorist offenders.sentenced to long long terms.... They wont be swapped.
3. Good idea!!!
Non Jewish Immigrant ,   Haifa   (03.07.14)
Israel might learn one or two things about human rights while in detention.
4. Way to go!
Anna ,   Sweden   (03.07.14)
5. In 'fairness'
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (03.07.14)
Long ago the EU formally called upon the USA to release Jonathan Pollard from prison. THeir motives are not always tainted. I would ask the EU to visit and report on prisons in Arab countries and Iran.
6. A good move , Minister Lieberman
Alexander Scheiner ,   Israel   (03.07.14)
because the EU is only interested in causing anti-Israeli actions. They are incited by Palestinian Arabs, the anti-Semitic Ashton and Jewish anti-Israeli NGOs, such as NIF, Btselem, RHR and the infamous JVJP.CH. rememberamalek.blogspot
7. NEW STRATEGY
Robert ,   Israel   (03.07.14)
Simply brilliant response of our FM.
8. Israel should allow the EU to visit prisoner s
John   (03.07.14)
only after the EU receives permission from surrounding countries such as Syria , Egypt , Iran and Hamas in Gaza to open up their prisons for inspection, if the EU don't want to be seen as being biased and interfering in the internal affairs of one country ISRAEL .
9. Belgian prison at Beveren
Serge ,   Antwerp, Belgium   (03.07.14)
Last week-end belgian and international observers spend a week-end in a soon to open new prison in Beveren. They were treated according to the guidelines and procedures for prisoners. Living conditions were found to be harsh. Old prisons (example Forest or St. Gilles in Brussels) should be closed immediately. Belgium was condemned by the UN for its old and overcrowded prisons.
10. One of the first things Lieberman has done that I like
Jacob E ,   Holon, Israel   (03.07.14)
I like this idea, treat the EU with the same unjustified condemnation as they treat us.
11. To nr 3
Alexander ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (03.07.14)
So why does an anti-Semitic racist genocidal ideologist and a non-Jewish immigrant live in a JEWISH country? And why does Ynet allow you to speak your mind if Israel is supposedly not democratic? And why does Israel treat you so well? Prisoners in Israeli prisons have a higher standard of living than most free people have in the third world. Prisoners can even pursue academic careers in Israel while they are in detention. So, who's crazy here?
12. To #1, not childish...
Gershon Reed ,   Be'er Sheva, Israel   (03.07.14)
...but a very mature response. It was a very nice and polite way of saying "no". I would have answered a little more "un-diplomatically". Guess that's why I'm not the FM.
13. Europe ought to start internalize: Israel is the liberal...
N.L.Katz   (03.07.14)
...democratic and sovereign nation-state of the Jewish people. This means that as a sovereign state, outsiders, like Europeans, have no reason to "examine" the way Israel is governed. Yes, we are Jews, but ones whose vast majority in Europe were mass murdered by Europeans, and most others have extricated themselves from Europe. Europe has no rational reason to continue to haunt and hunt us, Jews, even into our national home of 4,000 years. Enough is enough!!
14. Excellent!
Cindy ,   TA Israel   (03.07.14)
As usual....good move from Liberman!!!
15. "Living conditions were found to be harsh."
A ,   Belgium   (03.07.14)
Living conditions are supposed to be harsh for criminals, they aren't spending time in prison for helping old ladies cross the street. I read the article too, I thought it pathetic the way the Belgian observers whined about the harsh conditions for the murderers, rapists, pedophiles, etc. Why bother building prisons, let all the criminals go free, right? Or why not give them rooms in the Mercure Hotel, where conditions won't be so harsh?
16. Other than being locked up these terrorists
Zev ,   Israel   (03.07.14)
have much better conditions than in any other country. They get free university educations. They get 5 star meals and have televisions and radios. They also have phone proveledges and visiting rights including conjugal visits. Their families receive stipends from the Israeli government. And they rarely serve out their full terms. All this would probably mean nothing to the EU and they would not give a favourable report.
17. CONFUCIUS SAYS :
CONFUCIUS ,   SAFED CHINA   (03.07.14)
" Treat them exactly the same as they treat you ..."
18. #8 please don't compare us to those
Ilan ,   Ramat Gan, Israel   (03.07.14)
backwater hole middle age countries. On one hand, your right, we treat prisoners much better than our enemies do. On the other had, since Israel enjoys the fruits of the modern world, our prison system is expected to be on par with any 1st world country! Palestinian prisoners earn University degrees in Prison, what could be more modern than that, right?
19. Europeans ought to realize: there isn't a single good reason
Galit Qedem ,   Kibbutz Dan   (03.07.14)
to permit them to stick their noses into the way the State of Israel conducts its affairs. This policy change by our foreign ministry is very welcome.
20. Finally some self respect from Israeli government.
Chaim ,   Israel   (03.07.14)
It is about time Israel's government stopped grovelling on its knees and showed some self respect. This time Liberman is right.
21. kol hakavod.FM Leibermman!
Vered., Israel   (03.07.14)
22. # 3
Philip ,   Afula, Israel   (03.07.14)
I understand from your post that you have been jailed in Europe and Israel.Otherwise how do you know to compare the two.?
23. #1, EU ones being childish
Danny   (03.07.14)
We all know their report has already been written, why allow them the pretence of seeing the prisons
24. love this guy !
david ,   Montreal, Canada   (03.07.14)
25. Ilan #18 I am mocking the EU
John   (03.07.14)
if you read between the lines.Which of these Islamic countries mentioned would give the light of day for EU inspection of their death and torture prisons ?No chance !! Sure only Israel treats prisoners '' convicted terrorists and murderers'' such as murderer samir kunter and try to civilise them with education and Phd's and for sure the EU very much aware of that ,they are not stupid but blinded with hatred for Israel . I may not always agree with MR. Lieberman but i truly believe he is spot on mocking of the EU.
26. Well done Liberman!
Esteban ,   Argentina   (03.07.14)
