1. The law passed with 67 in favor
Zev ,   Israel   (03.12.14)
This is a clear majority of the Knesset. Most laws are passed with a lot less. The left realized they will not win so they use bolshevik tactics. And they think that they are the democratic ones. Hopefully Israelis will keep them in the opposition since that is all that they are good for.
2. Your picture is wrong
Aaron Kuperman ,   Baltimore   (03.12.14)
The picture on the website was of soldiers with knit yarmulkes, mostly without beards, and without pe'os. This suggests that it was a picture of non-hareidim, and should have been marked as "picture of Dati Leumi soldiers". Given the announced plan for open resistance and civil disobedience, you are unlikely to have many pictures of hareidi soldiers unless one is wiling to use photoshop.
3. Zev is right - but time for real direct elections
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & NYC   (03.12.14)
How many votes pass with only 20-30% of the Knesset voting in favor of them? Here you have 56% voting in favor, a clear majority. It is time that Israel retried the failed, half hearted attempt at direct elections and personal responsibility in its elected government. Yes, the attempt to make Prime Minister a separate vote failed, but that is because they only did it for PM, and did not have it for all elected Knesset members.
4. # 2 Look again
BUILD BABY BUILD ,   United States   (03.12.14)
one of the soldiers has the facial hair etc. Give it time, more beards and hold outs will join the ranks. KEEP BUILDING !!!
5. GOOD!
BUILD BABY BUILD ,   United States   (03.12.14)
No Israeli is exempt from defending Israel. None of the ancients quibbled when it came to defending Israel. Why are 'special people' getting more perks? Israel isn't Animal Farm where all the animals are equal except pigs. KEEP BUILDING!!!
6. Near empty, half empty or less than half empty?
michael redboun ,   Lisbon - Portugal   (03.12.14)
Not sure how this works but the majority passed the bill. So were the majority not in the room?
7. to number 2
Shimon ,   Poleg   (03.12.14)
These Israel and Jew hating Haredim who refuse to serve are welcome to join you in Baltimore. Ironically in the USA these parasites actually do work and pay taxes and not sit around smoking cigarettes all day.
8. it´s adar !
woman ,   europe   (03.12.14)
we never know what are the plans of Hashem this it will be also for good they will find solution to resolve the conflict Israel is Kodesh and Jews are Kodesh Maaminim bniei maaminim !
9. This new bill will be the joke of the century
Chaim ,   Israel   (03.12.14)
and Zionist Israel will be the laughingstock of the world when everyone in the world will see how thousands of haredim will be dragged to jail for learning Torah!!! We can all start laughing already at the foolish knesset today because it will just never happen. Mark my words: HAREDI DRAFT WILL NEVER HAPPEN! The snakes, Lapid & Bennett & Bibi snakes will long be in the trashcan of history before the communist/zionist cantonist conscription will actually come about.
10. Empty all jails of terrorists in order to imprison Zionists'
Chaim ,   Israel   (03.12.14)
There's hope yet. Marxism, Communism and Zionism all originated by self-hating Jews. Another little while and Zionism, including so-called religious LOL! Zionism, will very soon also be in the garbage can of history, much sooner than this decree will actually be implemented. We have nothing to worry about. Hashem is on our side He has shown us today with the Beit Shemesh election.
11. 60 years of injustice, Draft them or jail them
Haim   (03.12.14)
And about time too! This is truly a victory for democracy , about time those parasites served their country. If they have a problem with that then they are free to leave.
12. MK Moshe Gafni is a traitor to the state of Israel
Haim   (03.12.14)
MK Moshe Gafni is a traitor he encourages others to break the law , which in case his royal holliness has forgotten he swore to upheld. Jail the traitor now.
13. Balayla hahu, that night.... Remember that story?
Chaim ,   Israel   (03.12.14)
"That night..." Haman's excitement of destroying the Jews in moment was changed to him and his 10 sons hung. Can't wait to see what Hashem has in plans for our modern day Hamans in the knesset.
14. so a "near-empty" chamber has 68 people voting in it, eh??
jonatan ,   tokyo japan   (03.12.14)
Nice spin there, Ynetnews! Bit silly, though, don't you think?
15. I don't get it! All the leftist media, for years, have
Yitzchak ,   Tel Aviv   (03.12.14)
been screaming for ALL of these changes. And now the media is silent that Bibi has given it to them!!!! The media should be cheering and thanking Bibi and blasting the egotistical left for not supporting their own issues!
16. Good for Israel
Matt Sasson ,   NYC   (03.12.14)
This is good. National service is critical for Israel and there's no reason for the Haridim to be exempt.
17. jews winners. Israelis losers
tsvi ,   yerushlayim   (03.12.14)
ok, you've got your so called law. But it's not going to change The Law. Those who sit and study torah all day are qualified to interperate it, not lapid supporters, son of a jew by birth who never even saw tefilin till he was fifty. We're not joining the army, that means about a million less people who see israel and it's law's as relevant. See you guys.
18. It's not so awful, National Service, for those opposed to
Rivkah   (03.12.14)
being in the fighting, mighty men of Elohim IDF. They can be the mighty men of Elohim serving in canteens, serving coffee and other tasks that are important, too.
19. #9 Please clarify - Paraphrasing your objection
Tim ,   Brighton   (03.12.14)
You say 'We will see how thousands of haredim will be dragged to jail for learning Torah and it will just never happen' Is that the sum total of your objection to conscription or national service? Clearly your objections cannot be religious because there is no where in the Torah that expressly forbids a Jew taking up arms to protect him or herself, their families and community. Quite the reverse So are your objections financial, ethical, moral or plain and simple you want to preserve an unjust and inequitable status quo That said neither do I believe that the entire Haredi Community subscribe to your view because many many, afraid of being bullied and ostracised are in fear of publicly articulating their true feelings
20. Haredim - you should be ashamed - prayer will not protect us
barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (03.12.14)
I do see, though, a problem in punishment if all the Haredim protest the law of enlistment. How do we put such hordes in prison? Don't. Make it a financial punishment instead. If the Ultra-Orthodox insist that prayer is their way of life, then let them do it in poverty.
21. Gafni: "Today is a black day"
Aharon   (03.12.14)
Isn't every day a black day for haredim?
22. While I am opposed to hate-mongering like that of Haim...
Jake ,   USA   (03.12.14)
..Bennett does make a good point. 32% of 1st graders are Chareidi. How the hell is Israel supposed to function if the Chareidi population doesn't integrate?
23. Prayer
lechaiem ,   Israel   (03.12.14)
Newyork was praying against this law. Here they did the same. If there prayer doesn't reach Elohiem, where does it go.Why should these guys pray during war if there prayer doesn't reach a thing when there is no war. Start to fight for our land. You reach more.
24. What will it mean?
David ,   Boston, USA   (03.12.14)
What I dont understand is why it is a criminal offense? why not just cut off public funding to the Yeshivas where they dont serve? Do the same for the Arab sector? Let the IDF leaders decide who serves best in combat, leadership, technology, and national service, but make it universal for all sectors. Enroll men and women to serve their country through empowerment, duty, and obligation.
25. #11, you sound like the worst type of anti-semite
Jake ,   USA   (03.12.14)
Calling your fellow countrymen parasites. Shame on you. May I remind you that Ben Gurion made a deal not to draft the Chareidi population. The seculars thought the Chareidi would assimilate over time, but they didn't. Now you want a historical do-over, like the Arabs. Shame on all of you.
26. Hooray A promise kept
oliver ,   Eilat Israel   (03.12.14)
At least today we can say that Lapid delievered what he promised the voters. The parasites have to serve.
27. Opportunity to increase Toah Respect in IDF
Zechariah   (03.12.14)
The Reaction of most Haredim is what's a Tradgic Day.Here is an opportunity to Spread Torah Vaues even in the secular Humanitarian Survivalist Concept and Train in Basic Self Defense as the History of Our Peole Moulded from the Pikuach Nefesh Concept when Whole Communities were Slaughtered by the Ancient Pagans because the Jews did not defend themselves on the Shabbas .The Torah commands .That you may Live .
28. Even if the Haredi all became Zionists
Nuchosh   (03.12.14)
Everyone in Israel would still hate each other.
29. Watered down law
Avi   (03.12.14)
Don't let the Haredi opposition to the law fool you, this is a watered down law. Why only in 2017? Why is there still a limit of only enlisting 5,000 haredim per year? The government can easily change the quota so it will always be filled, thus preventing media backlash. Why only enlist them at the age of 26? This is a tiny step forward, but it will also push real equality away since the subject is now off the daily agenda. No one will bother to pass a stronger law until many years later.
30. #15 The media reaction
Moshe ,   Israel   (03.12.14)
Why will the leftist media praise an achievement which was accomplished by their political rivals ? Their first concern are the results of the next elections.
