1. Putin could have achieved this democratically
geroge   (03.16.14)
Putin erred as economic relations with the world will be damaged.Russia.s economy growth depends on trade ;otherwise it is just a gas station that sells weapons. No one wants to do business in russia cause there is no law. On the other hand, israel especially bibi should look at kerry's hopeless and laughable threats to russian which amount to almost nothing. kerry is full of bluster with no meat. He is weak and weak. And so is bibi and that is why it is dangerous. Liku d should depose bibi and fast.

3. Pozdravliaem s Dniom Rozhdenia! Krym!
Miron ,   USA   (03.16.14)
I remember my Ukrainian friend, when he was brimming with happiness when Ukraine seseded from Russia. Let's not be wishi - washi, Ukraine seceded from Russia when it declared independence. I wished him happiness and warned against shooting Russian people dead, when West comes upon Ukraine with its demands. It seems to me people of Ukraine have far more dark heart, incapable of appreciation of aspiration of other people to live with Russia. But the West position in this story is particularly crude and difficult to talk in normative language. Strangers in someone else's house, behaving like morons. Well, there is a saying, those who come with sword from sword will die.

6. Putin tell Obama to take a hike..
Al   (03.16.14)
so what does Obama do? He doubles down on seeking a PISS between Israel and its mortal enemy the Arabs. Kerry like the dummy he is will fly around like a Cirque du Soleil trapeze artist trying to hammer out some bogus deal before April 29. at Israel's expense. Netanyahu the useless twerp that he is will fold like a cheap suit for thats all he knows what to do. Yes its Purim every single day of the week for these supposed leaders of both the US and Israel.
7. If NATO could strip Kosovo from Serbia, ...
Cowboy Joe ,   Calgary, Canada   (03.16.14)
then Russia can strip Crimea from Ukraine. Unless, of course, international law means one thing to the West and another to the East.
8. Russia should take over the rest of Ukraine

And Hungary as well, everywhere where the Euromurderers are re-booting their fascist regimes.

13. Should be interesting ....
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.17.14)
I wonder what the European Union and the United States will do. Putin effectively thumbed his nose at both. The EU almost has to level sanctions, and Russia will retaliate by stopping all natural gas exports to Europe. That's okay, however, because these countries will turn to Israel (so much for BDS). The United States also almost has to level sanctions rather swiftly. Putin has humiliated Obama. Congress can yank Russia's most favored nation status; it can also call in all the loans to Russia. Russia won't care. But note the direction in which Putin is taking Russia. Moldova, Belarus and the Balkan states are next. Just watch.
14. One of Maidan leaders, Mr. Yarosh, declared
Miron ,   USA   (03.17.14)
war on Russia and promised to blow up pipeline connecting West and Russian oil and gas fields passing over Ukrainian territory. Where is Mrs. Nuland and her Maidan cookies... Welcome to West, unvarnished and unmasked. Let me give you a hint, how they will be funding those brave warriors. Jewish people in Ukraine, chisel it out on your noses, Ukraine has no Neo - Fascism.
15. To #3
Buckwheat ,   USA   (03.17.14)
First, I suggest you learn some elementary English grammar. Pathetic.... Second, Russia had already "liberated" Abkhazia, South Ossetiya and now Crimea. Secession of Eastern Ukraine with formation of a new "republic", the so called "Novaya Rossiya" is going to happen in a year. Russian leadership behaves like Hitler: Olympic Games today, Anschluss tomorrow.
16. Kerry's USA always wrong
(03.17.14)
Self determination of people that is civilised than any sort of framework. And virtual world rules in today's world and generation than land grabbing that leads America to debts and virtual companies such as Microsoft, Google, Facebook more richer than land grabbing US government and hmmm Palestinians land grabbing nothing.

We all remember Kosovo. But before gloating at someone else misery and making parallels, ask yourself a question: why Putin did not support referendum in Kosovo, when everyone else did, but supported it in Ukraine, when everyone else opposed it? Why is Putin annexing Krimea, and mo country annexed Kosovo? The only parallel there is between Hitler in1938 (Sudeten) and Putin in 2014. By the way, Russia officially affirmed that Krimea belongs to Ukraine 3 times in the last 20 years: in 1992 (Belavezhskij agreement) in 1994 (Budapest) and in 1997.

22. America's Religion Is Democracy.
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (03.17.14)
And yet, when we have here a democratic election......it's illegal. What gives? On the other hand, when the Egyptians revolted, and un-democratically without a fair election, and overthrew a democratically-elected Mubarak, that was okay. No American outcry. What gives?
23. Nr 13.
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (03.17.14)
If the Ukrainian Nationalists and Natoinalsocialist challenge Russia as they threathen, Ukraine will go down and Balticum will be reoccupied and, Russia will not back down. The West are underestimating Russias/Putins resolve, Russia will even go to War against Nato if nessessary. Russia stands between two shields, the West and the far East(Esekiel Chap.38-39). Against the East Russia cant survive as a Nation, against the West She can. Putin will do whatever it takes to make Russia survive. In short. Arn.Sweden-
24. !!!NOW, to Remind rotten WEST WHAT did Ukrainians in WWII
zoro ,   israel   (03.17.14)
The rotten west has forgotten what vicious crimes committed Ukrainians, Lithuanians and Latvians during WWII, against Jews and Russians. These 3 states happily would become FASCIST. Ukraine is one step close to their objective.
25. Nothing surrpising about the vote ..
michael redboun ,   Lisbon - Portugal   (03.17.14)
I spoke to Khrushchev's son on a BBC radio show about 13 years ago and I asked him about Sevastopol. "Do you intend to take it back by force?" His reply was, "We have patience and won't need to retake it by force". I know several people from the Ukraine and they all told me over the last few years that the people in the Crimea would prefer to return to Russia. So what is the West so surprised about?
26. #19 Differences between Kosovo and Crimea
Peter   (03.17.14)
First, Putin became president in 2000. Kosovo was stolen in 1999. So how could he have opposed it? Second, not everyone recognizes Kosovo. In the EU alone 2 countries dont recognize it and far more outside the EU. Third, nobody cares about the ridiculous Sudetenland comparisons. If you are going to make a point make it about the topic and spare us the pavlovian "Hitler" reflex. Fourth, neither Russia nor Ukraine are persons. They dont have opinions nor can talk. They are legal abstractions. In the real world opinions are held by human beings. They decide everything including borders, not the other way around. People define borders, borders dont define people. Fifth, Crimea held a referendum without any violence. Kosovo voted after 78 days of NATO bombings.
27. #13. Israel's gas reserves are minuscule
Peter   (03.17.14)
The tamar field has 2 billion barrels of oil equivalent worth of gas (around 300 billion cubic meters of gas). Europe importes 100 million tonnes of barrels of oil equivalent worth of gas a year. And 185 million tonnes of russian oil to boot. Europe consumes 50 Tamar fields a year. What makes you think Israel is some kind of major gas/oil player now? And loans cannot just "be called". Thats ridiculous, there are payment terms, a loan cannot just "be called". The real risk is Russian companies not paying a cent in retaliation.
