1. Putin shows world he has no moral compass
Joe Fraser ,   Canada   (03.19.14)
As long as he can continue to fill his pockets with criminal states as his main clientele. If i were the US/EUi would theaten to arm the Chechens, put missiles in Ukraine, Poland and the Baltics, and stop all business with the Russian Fed. Let Putin stick that in his hat. The West bankrupted the USSR, it can do it again to Russia.
2. What surprise: Putin supports a nuclear Iran
CJK   (03.19.14)
anyone who ever thought that putin is a modern, cosmopolitan, retired kgb man, ready to join the west, must have been dreaming. putin, unlike the wishy washy internationalists, anti-colonialists, tiers mondists of the west, is a real russian nationalist who will take any risks to advance russia's interests, which of course coincide with his own personal interests.
3. Looks like Israel will have to take Iranatomics into its own
Alan ,   SA   (03.19.14)

Arn. ,   Sweden.   (03.19.14)

5. Beginning defence
olavi ,   esbo, finland   (03.20.14)
Israel have to act alone. USA in unable to help it. Obamas appeacement will last for next election and US will lose rest of its reliability.
6. NATO
Mark ben Josef ,   USA   (03.19.14)
Ukraine in NATO would not be a sanction on Russia. It would sent a powerful message. Discussions probably already underway.
7. WHO ARE WE KIDDING!
Iranian Jew ,   LA USA   (03.20.14)
Iran & the mullahs are the direct answer to US and the west. My guess is that Russia has already given the bomb to the mad mullahs. The west can't expect Russia to just roll over and surrender. it is a waste of time to even consider it.
8. #2, He says this to get back at Obama
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (03.20.14)
Putin has no interest in Islamic Iran becoming a nuclear power for the main reason that it will be a danger for Russia too. Putin knows that Obama is a Muslim and hates his guts. On the other hand he respects Bibi and has a very good relationship with him. Notice that last year Bibi flew twice to Moscow on surprise visits meeting with Putin to avoid wiretapping by the NSA of the their conversations. Each time 2 months later Russian missiles in Syria were destroyed, the Yakhnut and S-300 types. It is clear to me that Bibi didn't ask Putin just for permission to do so but he also received from him intelligence of where the missiles are stored.
9. Dear Mr Putin
RickD ,   USA   (03.20.14)
You can have Ukraine. We will begin bombing Syria tomorrow. You can have one, not both. Have a nice day, Obama
10. WW2Precedent
Zechariah   (03.20.14)
In WW2 Russia and Britain invaded Iran to Secure Supply Lines to Russia .The Dangers of Nuclear Proliferation are severe the Cuban Missile Crises repeated again and again until a NutCase Group Starts the Explosion .Russia will not be Safe and who Russia avenges and the USA and other Powers will turn the World into massive Zones of uninhabitable Radioactive Dust by 2100 at the Latest.
11. #1 Exactly right
John ,   Boise, Idaho USA   (03.20.14)
This has been in the cards for a long time with him. You are right, he is a left over commie from the Cold War with high expectations, all the while suffering from small man's disease. Putin and the little twerp from N Korea share the same virus. If the world was smart, they would not play his little game and refuse to negotiate or "dialogue" right NOW with the little runt. Surprising, is that the Russian people have not thrown up a protest of their own or seemed to have forgotten their history when 80 million Russians died under the power plays of Lenin and Stalin. They have long forgotten the bread lines and Siberia. Slap him hard now with sanctions, arm Ukraine and all others before he decides to "annex" any more breakaway republics.
12. Follow the oil
Shoshana Rubin   (03.20.14)
Crimea, Ukraine, Iran and then Iraq. It's not difficult to see where Putin is heading unless one is blind, such as Obama, Kerry, Ashton and the EU.
13. @1 look who is talking...
Miron ,   USA   (03.20.14)
14. Russian will provide S-300 to Iran, Syria, Lebanon
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (03.20.14)
...and halt transferring chemical weapons out of Syria.
15. Why, this "threat" must be music to Obama's ears!
tom ,   tel aviv   (03.20.14)
16. Is this playing out as previously agreed?
Norbus ,   Jerusalem   (03.20.14)
Between Red Obama and Medvedev? After all, there is no doubt about the stable that is sending Obama out to drive its colours.
17. 8 I hope that you are right
CJK   (03.20.14)
i have no doubt about putin's feelings for obama.
18. Its time all parties stopped and stood back
Tim ,   Brighton   (03.20.14)
Looking at it objectively no parties come out of this well All have reacted impulsively, rashly and emotionally... And given the turmoil in other parts of the world the last thing the world expects is for MORE of the same in Europe! Its time now to STOP and REFLECT - and then for Russia to meet with Ukraine to find a resolution And the seeds of a resolution might have already been sowed as Ukranians in Crimea are saying they will leave Crimea subject to Russian Compensation..so maybe the Ukranian and Russian Governments can find a resolution based on compensation to Ukraine and indigenous Crimean Ukranians for the loss of their homes busineses and territory
19. @9 thanks for making America famous for all the right things
Miron ,   USA   (03.20.14)
20. #4 - Iran already has HQ-15 in production
spyguy ,   seattle usa   (03.20.14)
Iran has received the HQ-15 technology from China and is producing it themselves. The HQ-15 is a Chinese re-engineered version of the Russian S-300. It is already very dangerous for Israeli pilots to try to fly over Iran.
21. To: No. 6
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.20.14)
Ukraine in NATO would benefit exactly whom? How is the West benefited by Turkey in NATO? That was the original thinking; it hasn't worked out that way. Turkey did a need sidestep out of its obligations to NATO in every "hot" conflict that has come up since it became a member, citing one or another delicacy: couldn't help NATO in the Balkans because of the significant Moslem population; couldn't help NATO in Afghanistan and Iraq because those are Moslem countries .... Ukraine in NATO would be just as worthless as Turkey in NATO. Ukraine's geopolitical importance is Crimea -- oh, wait! That's not Ukraine any more, is it? If the European Union wants to take into its membership yet another bankrupt state with absolutely nothing to offer, let it. Although there are a great many countries already in the EU that might not be happy to see Ukraine go to the head of the line in terms of aid to economically distressed member states ... Ukraine is the EU's problem; they wooed Ukraine mercilessly which is what caused Putin to engineer the whole nonsense in Crimea. Who wants Ukraine, anyway? Russia just took the only part that matters. Ukraine has nothing to offer NATO and without Crimea, its geopolitical importance is nil.
22. To: John at No. 11
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.20.14)
Oh, Putin is only just beginning, Moldova and Belarus are next; closely following by Estonia. Lithuania and Latvia -- not so much. Nothing to offer. But it wouldn't matter. If Putin decided to create the former Soviet Union, no one would stop him. The United States is war-weary, and if the U.S. continues to do nothing about Iran, or the carnage in Syria, Putin knows he has nothing to fear. And the Russian people won't care. Apart from the oligarchs and a handful of middle class, the Russian people are not exactly enjoying their new-found "freedoms." For several thousand years, whether in the name of G-d, the Tsar or the Communist Party, someone has been stepping on the necks of the Russian people. They don't like uncertainty; they do like being told what to do and when and how to do it. They like a predictable, ordered life. Putin's far from done, and he will enjoy widespread support from his countrymen and women. The Soviet mentality remains alive and well in Russia.
23. @18 that's the trouble. There is nowhere to step.
Miron ,   USA   (03.20.14)
Things do not look good. Western political elites cannot accept defeat, without major military loss. Because they will loose empire. Nor can your world move forward with what peace has in store, because Western economy depends on Russia on being viable.
24. Arming Muslim terrorists won't help Russia
Chechnya   (03.20.14)
25. Russian own interest is at stake over Iran
Expert Observer   (03.20.14)
Russia has a fast growing Muslim population and with nuclear Iran at it's border it will be a direct threat to Russia in a very near future so Putin don't sell us this theory, you should be more than anyone else to stop Iran.
26. West takes a lesson long over due.
valdi ,   Germany   (03.20.14)
Russia did every thing possible to get good relationship with the West, the West, especially USA, did every thing possible to promote it's interests world wide, disregarding many other countries. By instigating yet another coup in Ukraine NATO cynically forsaked the real interests of 50Millions Ukrainians and misused the existing tensions for their own geopolitical goals. The first law the bandits in Kiev, Maidan have prepared was to outlaw Russian in Ukraine. Russia was forced to act and had full right to do it. Too bad Israel is not strong enough to do what it should have done after endless aggressions from some of its neighbors. And yes, if America continues to bully Russia it will learn to espied stop signs again, and Israel along with other Vietnam's and Korea's will pay the price for having to choose the side.

Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.20.14)
That's why we have very silent submarines equipped with nuclear payloads and satellite launch capability. But don't worry too much -- Israel can blind Iran's radar. Iran will never even see us coming. That said, you're looking in the wrong direction. Think ultra low frequency waves which can only be launched from highly-particular terrain and are capable of creating seismic movement and massive earthquakes. Then, I suggest you check out the required terrain necessary to launch such waves, and brush up on the geography of the Judaean Hills. In the meantime, you may wish to remove your spyglass from where you keep it and wash it off. In addition to being really blurry and useless, it can't be all that comfortable for you to sit. I'm so thoughtful ...

You mean start of world war III. You sound like a Neo-Con. Wise-Up
29. #27 - More delusion from Sarah
spyguy ,   seattle usa   (03.20.14)
If Sarah is in Colorado we can just assume she has smoked too much weed. The REALITY is while Israeli subs have nukes on board, they are not silent. No country, not the US nor Israel, has the ability to "blind" radar. The simple act of trying to do so gives Iran plenty of information for defense. As for the mythical "earthquake rays," they simply do not exist. In the REAL WORLD there are no magical weapons and most advanced countries, of which Iran is one, have equal capability. No country has any "superior" technology. Heck not one country in the world can find a lost airplane. BTW - If Israel ever uses any nuke, it will be committing suicide.
