As you say, Gaza has tons of potential. When Jews lived in Gaza they proved how successful one can be in Gaza. But when Jews left Gaza, Hamas took over. They rejected the beautiful existing homes and built block housing for residents along with a million dollar mausoleum for Arafat. The businesses went to ruin and Hamas closed many Palestinian businesses. The weapons smuggling business became a multi-million dollar entity but terror and instability made Gaza a poor business investment. You don't see these rich gulf nations building beachfront property in Gaza. In fact, many Arab League countries boast of contributions, yet don't pay up. Israel does not control Gaza or hold the people back from becoming successful. In fact, Israel has offered economic cooperation and assistance which Palestinian leadership rejects.

The Israeli economy is taking off and doing amazing things that will require new infrastructure.
