Philippe ,   Raanana   (03.31.14)
All those involved in that scandal- who posed for many years as the rich and famous - must go to jail , rot in the shadow , and learn modesty.Enough with the " rich and famous " , down with the so-called " creme de la creme ".Either they rot in jail for 20 years or the State is not worth all the sacrifices the common people pay every day.

NLZC ,   Jerusalem   (03.31.14)
I wrote before that Lawyers are at the core of corruption in Israel. paid to cover up crimes instead of reporting the breaches the law demands they do With one eye shut and one hand open. The Law has to be amended, and amuta Nikkui Le'Tzedek Chivrati is campaigning for this Olmert is a disgrace, and through his dreadful act, we may get to succeed to make lawyers culpable for cover up Israel Justice comes shining bright and proud. Same Justice for all.

18. Olmert as a symptom
Alf Red ,   Londonistansk   (03.31.14)
Now just think of a few years passed between Mehakhem Begin (za"l) and Olmert. Begin with his legendary past and frugal living in a small flat. And his heart bleeding for our soldiers who had died in Lebanon to exterminate the curse of PLO terror. And this lover of expensive cigars and parkers, with whiff of corruption stinking around, and multi-million real estate deals, and that dirty little "operation Litany" in which 120 our dearest brothers died for nothing to achieve, apart of that heinous Livni agreement that allowed Hezbolla to receive thousand upon thousand new missiles. And I just ask - how quickly a country can slide into morass with a system that allows personages like Olmert to get to the top, how quickly it goes to self-destruction? My great respect to the Judge Rosen.
19. I hope Olmert is humiliated sore in prison
Norbus ,   Jerusalem   (03.31.14)
He must have mamzerut in his family to willfully disgrace the Jewish people from the lofty office he held. 20 Years is not enough.
20. Olmert
Barrieg ,   Zichron Yaakov   (03.31.14)
Olmert will be sent down for his greed. How will he be judge and remembered for the the ill prepared war and the unfortunate pull out, for which we paid a very heavy price to this day! End of the Olmert's disasters.
21. jewish ethics?
Patrick A. Hammel ,   Zermatt, Switzerland   (03.31.14)
Maybe it is time for Bibi to drop his demand that the Palestinians recognize Israel as a " Jewish State " and instead ask them to recognize it as a state " for Jewish refugees ". A "Jewish State " implies that its laws and ways of its people are geared by Jewish ethics. Nothing can be further from the truth ! Anyways, not in my name will I ever allow you to speak as a representative of the Jewish people !!! To make sure there is no misunderstanding, Israel has the right to defend its nation and citizens against the enemies who have sworn to destroy it, but that is besides the point.
22. What people do not understand
Sagi   (03.31.14)
is that corruption is endemic in Israeli society from the head on down. There is a reason for this. The basic reason is that the electoral and party system are conducive to the wrong type of people and parties gaining office and eventually power in government. As long as the elected body is not accountable to those who cast their vote, directly responsible and accountable, there will be corruption. The other reason is that in a country where wages are low, taxes are high and banks and insurance companies regularly show outrageous profits, the public in general will always be "on the make". A new system and a new leader are required. The leader must be handy with a vacuum cleaner and a scalpel, nothing less will cure the mess we are in.
23. I feel sorry for Olmert
Sarah B ,   Tel Aviv/London   (03.31.14)

25. the corrupt left
Bernardo   (03.31.14)
will work very hard to make sure that olmert has a very light sentence because they feel he is the only "leader" who can challenge bibi. i hope that am wrong. history will judge....
26. # 10 Democracy ?
Sagi   (03.31.14)
Between the word and the concept and the country called Israel the distance is infinite and at this stage also intractable.
27. Olmert Conviction
Sydney Faber ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (03.31.14)
"Olmert could face up to 10 years in prison when sentencing is handed down at a later date, and will appeal the verdict, his spokesman Jacob Galanti said. "It is not an easy day for Olmert," said his lawyer Roy Blecher". It's not an easy day for Olmert? Really? It's not an easy day for Israel. If he wants to appeal let him put his own money where his mouth is. Better still, he should be refused the right to appeal as he knew all along that he was guilty. Let him sit....the longer the better in order to set an example to others of his ilk.
28. OLMERT Guilty
Gillian Kenigsberg ,   Carmiel, Israel   (03.31.14)
I hope he gets a long sentence in jail and a big fine. I wonder who will be the next government official to be caught.
29. he is a stain on our nation, and ...
oferdesade ,   israel   (03.31.14)

30. All Israelis Guilty
sam ,   tel aviv, israel   (03.31.14)
...this is the philosophy of israelis (i've lived here 15 years and corruption runs deep in the average israeli psyche) ...so deep that people here don't realize how crooked they are. I've yet to meet an honest Israeli.
