as I understand it the difference between these two parties is similar to the difference between Likud and HaBeit HaYehudi. In other words there isn't much difference. A pity that ynet purchased the Reuters article without bothering to explain this to us...its important as more and more Israelis are vacationing in Turkey. We really should know what's going on there.

There is a huge difference between AKP and CHP. AKP is an ultra religious party with the goal to establish - eventually when situation permits - a sheria state similar to the Ottoman Empire. AKP favors a theocratic dictatorship. They are against the secular democratic republic. CHP is the opposite. It is against theocracy and supports secular democracy.
