1. Le Pen
Ronald ,   Hemel hempstead UK   (04.05.14)
She is a troublemaker from day 1, I can only see disaster in France, and if they continue winning France will become the dudtbin of Europe.
2. What I would like to know ....
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (04.05.14)
... is if the resentment is directed against Moslems, and Jewish people are just being swept along, or if Jews are the target, too. I know that there has been a sharp rise in anti-Semitic acts against Jews in France, but I had thought that the perpetrators were Moslem. Of course, if Marine Le Pen is involved, there's bound to be a lot of Jew-hatred involved; she did, after all, grow up in a less than nurturing household headed by an unrepentant Nazi. But think of all who get swept up in this law -- Jews, Moslems, Hindus and plain ordinary vegetarians. A friend of mine says that the French are only reverting to type, but that the target isn't Jews, Hindus or vegetarians. It's the large, disaffected and obnoxious Moslem population that the French are rebelling against. I'm hoping someone can comment. Thanks.
3. ONLY PORK?
Brant ,   Hilton Head USA   (04.05.14)
Article makes it sound as if they will now serve nothing but pork, Think even secular France will rebel if they can't have fish or poultry or beef. Quite apart, as long as most people have been attending secular schools parents have sent lunches with their kids if they don;t want them to eat the non-kosher or non-halal food. That's also why states; even France, permit private parochial schools
4. Yeah, like they had a ban on pork because of the Jews!
tom ,   tel aviv   (04.05.14)
5. Secular School Lunches
Ami ,   Tel Aviv   (04.05.14)
France, as a secular state, should offer secular vegetarian school lunch options. That should satisfy everyone -- including the people who want to eat Kashrut or Halal -- and save the taxpayers a lot of money.
6. If You Don't Like Bacon You're Lying
World Citizen ,   the world   (04.05.14)
Le Pen is trying to enlighten Jews and Muslims. There is nothing like smoked bacon with eggs in the morning or pulled pork barbecue or a ham on Jewish rye sandwich. This non-pork rule in both religions is based on the fact that you couldn't always cook pork 100 percent when you were cooking with dried camel or oxen dung. Under-cooked pork can carry the disease Trichinosis. It was a danger then as now. But this is the 21st Century. We're cooking with gas now baby! Leave the Bronze Age behind. Oh by the way. Lobster with melted butter is to die for. That kosher law (meat and dairy) what is that all about? Sounds dumb to me.
7. To: No. 6
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (04.05.14)
The only person you can reliably speak for is yourself. I have never eaten pork, have no plans to do so and, quite frankly, the smell of bacon cooking is enough to turn my stomach. If you're that curious about kashrut, why not just do a little internet research? And, by the way, it might interest you to know that most physicians and nutritionists agree that keeping meat and dairy separate is quite healthy. As to pork -- look at pork-eating cultures. Can you spell "obese?" As to lobster -- well, if you want to eat giant insects that crawl around the bottom of the oceans and eat all manner of sewage -- go right ahead. Sounds pretty dumb to me.
8. Join the 21st century
Jonet ,   USA   (04.05.14)
The state should not concern itself archaic religious rules established by a bunch of goat herders 4000 years ago. If people want to follow those rules then they can deal with the problems of doing so.
9. Tricinosis any one?
BUILD BABY BUILD!!!!   (04.05.14)
Pigs have worms that can't be killed by baking. French suck they couldn't win a war if some one else fought it for the French.
10. #6 wc, I agree, including lox with cheese.
Michael ,   California, USA   (04.05.14)
"What is kosher law about?" It is about telling meek people what to do, from sunrise to sunset, and even if they need to go in the middle of the night.
11. Bleu Marine
(04.05.14)
French people have enough of this France and this Europe. Too much uncontrolled immigration, too much communitarism, enough is enough. We have enough. I voted FN for the municipalities and will vote again for FN in the Europeans and why not the next presidentials. The French community of Israel is the one outside French metropole that voted the most FN during the last presidential elections of 2012. I'm glad that minorities like Jews and Muslims in France are reminded that they're hosted. Jews do that very well in Israel towards non Jews
12. To No. 2.
Bertram ,   London, UK   (04.05.14)
I can see how this can be a bit of a problem for you, Sarah, i.e. that Jews and Muslims might both be the victims of extreme right-wing hatred and bigotry. Le Pen's cynical employment of French laïcité in pursuit of neo-fascism may well be targeted at Muslims in the first place but the Jews remain within its sights. So, even if the 'pork only' proposal is aimed solely at the 'obnoxious Moslem population (sic)' it is still throughly nasty. As a footnote, I assume that Le Pen is also a supporter of any proposal to ban shechita and halal and would no doubt hide under the cover of animal welfare!
13. Sarah 7 / LPen politically dumb
(04.05.14)
Malaysian aircraft eat pork & lobster? no good. / 30 countrys research sky but no link to sumatra data reveal
14. Although I despise her, I agree with her
Lynx ,   Palestine   (04.05.14)
Save secularism! Not only in France but also Palestine! As an atheist born to Muslim parents I do love the smell of Bacon and I have to admit the French joie de vivre is the object of my envy.

Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (04.05.14)
I realize that it offends you that I might actually spend my life being proud that I am Jewish as opposed to you, who cannot seem to stop apologizing for it (why not just convert, Bertram?), but the fact of the matter is that the Jews of France are a law-abiding population, reasonably affluent, and they do not go around murdering, raping and pillaging in the name of Islam. Which cannot be said of France's Moslem population, who are responsible for a considerable amount of crime, all of it obnoxious and an unfortunate amount of it lethal. I simply asked whether this is a targeted effort against Jews, or just the Moslems of France, with the Jews being caught in the net because of Jewish dietary restrictions. I can see how that simple question can be a bit of a problem for you -- you're just not all that smart. If you were, you wouldn't spend all your time apologizing for the Jewish people -- ninety-nine percent of whom would rather you simply convert. Those of us who are proud to be Jewish have little stomach for self-hating snivelers such as yourself.

Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (04.05.14)
Well, then, move to France. You can visit the Widow Arafat and her hideous daughter. They have very nice digs on the avenue d'Iena, bought, paid for and maintained by the "Palestinian" people. She might let you in the service entrance long enough to mop the marble bathroom floors and to clean the toilets, but don't expect any conversation. She'll never even bother to learn your name, chica.
18. LET THEM EAT CAKE!!

just one correction: The French have long been, and continue to be, the dustbin of Europe.
20. Integrate into the society you benefit from, "dwell alone"
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (04.05.14)
...racism, "inordinate" wealth accumulation, and power, by one ethnic group, and special rules for immigrants, perpetuate segregation, and lead to conflict.
21. Dont waist your time

Marine Le Penn is against jews and muslims,
22. To No.15.
Bertram ,   London, UK   (04.05.14)
As usual, you are hoist on your own petard. You reveal your own lack of self-confidence - and, I guess, self-hatred. Unlike you, I do not have to constantly brag about being proud to be Jewish. I am Jewish to the core but it seems the only way you can be Jewish is to continually demonise others. If the antisemites disappeared overnight you would be destitute. Poor you.

So opposed to religious coercion as to be insensitive and bigoted
26. Sarah Jews and Muslims Pray To The Same G_d.
World Citizen ,   the world   (04.05.14)
They are two limbs of the same tree. Both religions are lost in some weird time warp with the silly dietary laws. In their fundamental forms they are very similar with the repression, yea even hatred of women and the strange clothing and hair styles. And lobster is not an insect no matter what your mullah, I mean rabbi, tells you. It's a crustacean with white succulent flesh that goes wonderfully with butter and asparagus topped off with a dry French Grand Cru Chablis. Sarah I wish I could trick you one time, like that time George tricked Jerry Seinfeld's orthodox girlfriend. Fed her the lobster that Kramer stole out of that lobster pot. She gobbled that lobster down. She loved it until she found out what it was. Then her "religion" got in the way of joy. Sad.
27. to #7
iselin ,   oslo   (04.05.14)
The Chinese are big pork eaters, but obese, no. The Scandinavians eat a lot of pork, too, but the average BMI of Scandinavians is low, even with sausage loving Danes. You must be thinking of the Germans, but if you walk the streets of Hamburg or Munich, you won't see nearly as many fat people as you would in Chicago or Pittsburgh. Stereotyping?

Does your advice apply to Israeli-Arabs too?
30. Sarah , i think that it is , the same for anti shechita
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (04.05.14)
mostly directed at the muslim population . Religious Jews go to Jewish schools , for non religious ones is eating pork not a problem . I did not search in which towns the FN has the mayoral seat , I think it are not towns with many Jews , but more likely , with many muslims .
