The east was just another region of the russian empire and later, a soviet republic. Theres far more in common between both countries than between Oregon and Texas. Ukranian isnt even a different language. Its as similar to russian as Spanish is to Portuñol (Spanish-Portuguese mix).

You have, I think, missed the point. Whatever Ukraine was or was not historically, it is today a sovereign state. It is clear that Putin is looking for a way to bring Ukraine back into Russia. He'll get away with it, too -- which will spell the death knell for a sovereign Moldavia, Belarus and Estonia. The current American administration are rank amateurs when it comes to international diplomacy, and the American president is a bumbling, inept idiot. The only way to reign Russia in right now would be for the U.S. to start freezing Russian assets on deposit in the United States and terminating its most favored nation status. Unfortunately for the former Soviet republics, Obama is far too busy working on ways to hurt Israel to pay much attention to what Putin is doing. Obama is the Clown Prince of the United States. Congress will have to start tightening the screws on Russia; Obama doesn't even know where to begin. He's way out of his depth. Always has been.

US and EU are worried about the growing power and economy of Russia. US doesn't like it. In pre WWII, US hated SU, and encouraged Germany to start WWII and eventually destroy SU. Today we all know how Germany managed to get out of total economic chaos. US covertly provided financial support thru a lot of companies, like Ford, IBM and many others. US delayed their stinky D-day 3 years, until they realized that Russian army is going to enter Berlin very soon. NOW something similar happens again. Ukraine is playing the role of Nazi Germany Fortunately, Putin is much smarter than all of these thugs and he will teach them a lot of lessons they won't forget.

That doesn't make it right, especially since most people do not want to be part of Russia, and the "terrorists" are Russian soldiers. BTW: Oregon and Texas have a lot more in common than you know.
