1. Thanks for sharing Mr. Rune
Ethnix   (05.12.14)
Nice
2. Retire the man and the position.
David ,   Hartford USA   (05.12.14)
Shimon has done a wonderful job making amends for things MKs have done to upset the world. That said, the PM is the leader of Israel and that should suffice. The funds saved by eliminating the position and all the people associated with it can be used to retrain unemployed Israelis. Israel doesn't need a figurehead.
3. And you know he is right
Eli ,   Haifa, Israel.   (05.12.14)

4. No PM in American democracy - only President amd

5. NO, most democracies do not have two people fighting to set
Ruti ,   Israel   (05.12.14)
the national policy. The taxpayers see NO benefit whatsoever in having an UN elected person sitting in the presidents chair. The money could be put to much better use.
6. No Prime Minister in the USA
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (05.12.14)
This guys doesn't know what he is talking about.....as usual.

9. GOOD PROPOSAL! WHY SHOULD ISRAEL PAY FOR A PRESIDENT
stude ham   (05.12.14)
who thinks that huge chunks of the land shoud be given away for a few slips of paper that say 'peace' on them? and by the way... DEMOCRACY is defined neither by the presence nor by the abscene of some particular political office.
10. Mr. Peres
Israeli 2   (05.12.14)
did you ever visit Katzav who was jailed unjustifiably because of politics? You are NOT the image of Israel anymore. Those days are gone, sir.
11. The UK doesn't
Righteous Zionist ,   Israel   (05.12.14)
and Mr P is a spare organ at a nuptual ceremony.
12. Netanyahu and his delusions of grandeur...
A Jerusalemtie ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (05.12.14)
He wants to be the only one at the top. The country needs a president to represent the people without a political agenda. If we were to change to a Republic with a president that has the power to rule, rather than a PM, that would be a different story - but then the change must come now - not sometime in the amorphous future.
13. I know how about King BB and Queen Sarah?
Nancy   (05.13.14)
Or Shrek and Fiona as they are commonly known
14. we do need a president
zionist forever   (05.12.14)
We need a respectable head of state who is above politics. With Israel's dysfunctional political system more than ever as a PM can be here today gone tomorrow, Liberman is a terrible diplomat and generally not very popular abroad what if he were PM and he had to promote corporate Israel? What if Shas won an election and then we needed somebody to promote Israel, do we want a haredi PM or somebody secular, respectable and above politics. Just because it hasn't happened doesn't mean it can't in future. We need somebody who can go make speeches and do all the unavoidable diplomatic duties that a country must made at home and abroad. The president should be elected so its not a golden handshake appointment for MKS but we should keep the presidency.
15. Shimon, oh Shimon
Toledano Jean-Pierre ,   Israel   (05.12.14)
Shimon, oh Shimon, so, the USA is not a democracy!! Oi, oi, oi.... What will the Americans and your friend Obama think about your statement and about you? Please control from now on your gsm, PC,... By,old fellow, it's really time to go
16. History strongly indicates that....
Gideon Reader   (05.12.14)
...the President's position is almost totally a matter of having a camel's nost embarassingly poked inside the tent of running the nation. The past appointees seem to be warmed and made happy by throwing rocks at the people who actually do something, other than throwing rocks. Surprisingly Peres the Eternal has not reverted to subjecting Bibi to graffiti. The position should be abolished, removing the pee'ing into the governmental tent. Other than waiting for the next arrest or national embarassment the Office has no real purpose not already fulfilled by the PM's Office.
