3. Free will

It is unconscionable to interfere with the right of an individual to exercise free will. While someone's right to flail his arms ends at your nose, there are no such restrictions on an individual's inalienable right to engage in a hunger strike.
Israel is in a Catch-22 position here. On the one hand, if we let them pursue their hunger strike to its inevitable end, the international community will screech. On the other hand, if we force feed the hunger strikers, the international community will howl that Israel is interfering with their right to exercise free will.
Can't have that -- so let them starve.
Although I note for the record that Barghouti -- imaginary president-elect of the imaginary state of "Palestine" -- is not among the hunger strikers. And he really could use a diet. I guess while he doesn't mind sending others to their deaths as suicide bombing "martyrs," he has a rather healthy sense of self-preservation. Seems to me that Israel could use this in some form of publicity. At the very least, it will shame Barghouti.
