1. Begin Hated the British
Zechariah   (05.31.14)
Begin of the Irgun and Shamir of the Lechi hated the British for ruthlessly adhering to the Genocide Paper of 1939.Worse the British could have offered millions of Jews temporary rescue to British colonies but then after the War some even ten percent might go to Palestine and the British would rather the Nazis deal with the Jews by Genocide .The Britishpeople were different they sympathised with the Jews but the rich wanted the money from Oil and Tea.
2. I can only imagine pain of Britz

who were shooting Germans and their pensions with them. Germany put its national monetary saving fund in British bank prior to war. And for every German soldier lost Brits were loosing x number of pounds. In other words, recent facts indicate Britain didn't war Germany. And than, when the WWII was lost, paid for loss of West by loss of Palestine, an 2000 year old protectorate to Jewish nation, which they bravely genocide to build so - called Palestine in the first place. It really isn't a good story. But it has to be told without veneer. We need peace, not more incitement to murder.
3. this seems like a foolish tale, a departure...

Even though Brits knew mechanics behind the machine they also needed to know the coding sequences. Without those machine is still useless and that is why at least one machine had to be stolen and in deep secrecy too. Germans were so confident in machine's ability and so arrogant (surprise, surprise) that they never bothered to change the machines encoding/encryption. When IDF had changed encryption on a machine it would've been sufficient. Think of it this way - so what if everyone knows how PGP works ...

6. the british were within their rights to spy on Israel
zionist forever   (05.31.14)
Israel spends billions of dollars on equipment to spy on others so fair is fair if its ok for us to spy then its ok for them to stay. I think there can be no condemning the British for trying their luck here.

Begin as an individual had good reason to hate the Brits but what you also have to remember is the whole global political scene at the time England was fighting a war, its cities were being bombed and after the war they were in no fit state to mess around with the arabs and Jews and arabs were the majority in Palestine and the empire also needed arab oil. It was not just so black & whits of England v the Jews of Palestine and Europe that was like just a chapter in a book. As for spying on Israel fair is fair, we do it today why should they not have been allowed to spy on Isral then?
8. check your facts!!!
David ,   Oakland   (05.31.14)
The British intelligence cracked the code before the bombing of Coventry in 14 November 1940, and Churchill had to decide if he should have the city evacuated and save the population but give away the fact that they had broken the code or if they should sacrifice the city's populating but keep the secret of the code. the war lasted from 1939-1945, 1940 was hardly the middle of the war. Also you cannot just break the code , as there is none, any message entered into the Enigma machine twice would come out differently each time. You had to have the machine and know the sequence of the wheels inside to break the code.
9. ENCRYPTION

Yo , no need for a subscription cause my prescription is to use encryption ,then you too can walk like an Egyptian , yo don't need to travel to Haifa ,in order to de-ci-pher ,like a pro-lifer ,just divorce yo wifer, it won't give no lasting stigma ,to use the machine named " Enigma " , my subjects' main thrust ,is NEVER TO TRUST , when yo imagination is glistening ,yo never know just who is listening.....
10. so, what is the big deal???
les ,   canada   (06.01.14)

After the war the British had learned to crack both the regular and the more modern much more complicated versions which had more rotors. The British had computers and war experienced code breakers whilst the IDF had non of that. Enigma would have been the best type of spying technology the IDF could have hoped to get in those early days and the British knew it and hoped to take advantage of it.
12. @10, no big deal, but interesting, no?
AY ,   USA   (06.01.14)
I've watched a couple of documentaries on the Enigma machine, and they proved interesting. Now, there's an additional piece of the puzzle in this story...
13. None of you understand that:
JS ,   Magic Kingdom   (06.01.14)
There was a baked in fatal flaw in those German Enigma machines which made it easy for those who knew about it, to decipher ANY coding sequence built into or "plug boarded" into the machine! The Brit's knew about this, and used it to eavesdrop into it's users (Egypt etc...) until the 1960's. The Germans added a feature thinking it would enhance security, it did just the opposite! See, the machine would never use the crypt-code character entered as plain text! Ever, Strong computerized statistical analysis would reveal the plain-text to a message.
