1. Seems pretty simple to me.....
Gideon Reader   (06.05.14)
...All it tkes is some sechel. A bit of common sense. A couple of baytzim(hard boiled) and putting aside the polititurd's BEE ESS, and doing what is right and long overdue. Turning a page and begining a new chapter in the long history of the Jewish people. No politics. Just the expression of the reclaimation of State of the Jews, with them as the sole patrons.
2. Ha HaHaHaHacan't stop laughing
Mini ,   Broadshire, U.K.   (06.05.14)
These peoples are not Jews(no pun),,,, nor is it a Jewish nation,, although there is a good "read", Ben Freedman's take on all this mess, bless his soul. Israel is the only nation on this planet that has to prove to the world, who and what it is,,,,, minus PEACE,,,,, . Who are these peoples we often ask???????.
3. The 'problem of Israel's Jewish identity law!
tiki ,   belgium   (06.05.14)
If that's a problem than what's the need of Israel? What's the fuss about? What are you fighting for? Why fight those who agree with you on this....no need for Israel! Go live in Honduras or Berlin and rename Israel the "forgotten land because of Jews forgetting their history & heritage.
4. What is a Jewish country?
Non Jewish immigrant ,   Haifa/Italy   (06.05.14)
What does it mean? What does that imply? Who is Jewish? What is a Jew?
5. Immigration
Amichai ,   Huntsville, US   (06.05.14)
I can tell you from experience being a US citizen, your country needs to carefully control immigration & voting laws if it hopes to maintain its identity. We're flooded by latinos here, both legal & illegal. The leftists in the US government are trying to grant them voting rights which will eventually lead to a replacement of our Constitutional Republic with a socialist regime.
6. livni is a piece of drek
geroge   (06.05.14)
I never thought israel could sustain another olmert, a cheap hustler who got botched the hezbollah war while barnea and haaretz looked the other way. He had no idea of how to fight, zero especially in stealth. His idea of negotiations was a bloody white flag. Could anyone match him- yes-livni his twin. She is for blood prisoners release, against setttlement in disputed territory, againt wording israel as home of the jewish people, all for concessions and the more the better, and wants total dependence on kerry and ashton because they will be good to israel when it offers 67 borders, she thinks. it works the other way. USA and EU will be good to israel when it acts independently and tellls kerry and ashton to shove it. Israel willbe respected and maybe feared which is not a bad thing. Livni joins herzog and galon as the obnoxious trio. I cannot imagine a trio that humiliates the country more than these 3.
7. It would only make sense
Chaim ,   Israel   (06.05.14)
to ask real Jews, Haredim and some Daati Leumi, if Israel is a Jewish State. You can't expect someone like Shaked, Lapid, Bennett to say the truth. Of course they'll claim Israel is a Jewish state when they look like goyim, act like goyim and there's nothing Jewish about them. Is desecrating Shabbat and Holidays Jewish? Is eating pork Jewish? Is doing immoral acts Jewish? Is teaching evolution Jewish? Is denying the existence of G-d Jewish?
8. Of course it should be defined as a Jewish state, why is your
Moshe ,   Usa   (06.05.14)
government so stupid as not to realize it !
9. This bill should be the original first draft.
Israeli 2   (06.05.14)
Hebrew is very important as it always will be the Jewish people's original (and fortunately) its only language forever. I say fortunately, because Hebrew contains hidden scientific secrets when properly decoded. Not Arabic and not Chinese or Sanskrit.
10. So :The Jewish State" Is Not Really "The Jewish State", and
Doug ,   Rochester, USA   (06.05.14)
might never become the "Jewish State" because so many Israelis oppose it. BUT.... Israel insists that the Palestinians recognize it as "The Jewish State". Instead, the Pals should recognize Israel as "The Hypocrite State".
11. Be very careful
Avramele   (06.05.14)
The Knesset in it's sovereignty can define how the Israeli state relates to world Jewry. It cannot, nor should not, claim to speak for the Diaspora on how it relates to the Israeli state. Secondly, how Israel defines it's relationship to it's non-Jewish citizens can impact how other governments define their relationship to their Jewish citizens. Do not put it passed certain political elements in Hungary, for example, to advocate the forced "repatriation" of it's Jews to Israel.
12. #2, is that what passes for english in the UK thesedays?
Danny   (06.05.14)
13. #2, what is an Italian country?
Danny   (06.05.14)
What does it mean? What does it imply? Who is Italian? What is an Italian?
14. 4.
Birdi ,   Israel   (06.06.14)
Being a Jew, being of the Jewish religion, is everything, you are not, nor could ever be.
15. Jews happily live in Brooklyn, London and Montreal.
Michael ,   California, USA   (06.06.14)
Why should an Israeli state pretend to be like Brooklyn, London, Montreal or like some other hole in the world. A nation is named for its territory (Israel), for its language (Hebrew), for its culture (Sabra). "Jewish" defines ethnicity or religious affiliation, nothing more. Why would the Knesset deal with trivial issues without even knowing who is a Jew? It is obvious to the entire world that Israelis live in Israel. In short, the Knesset has more essential problems to solve, like the cost of cottage cheese.
16. Danny that's exactly my point!
Non Jewish immigrant ,   Haifa / Italy   (06.05.14)
That's why here in Italy we don't bother with this question even if I'm tempted to say that Italian is not a religion. Judaism is.
17. Christians are told in Romans 1
Erin ,   USA   (06.06.14)
that anyone who does the will of G_d, is a Jew. and His Will is outlined for us in HIs Word, for whomever to study at their leisure. Judaism studies the Tanakh, the Talmud and other scholarly writings. Christianity studies just the Tanakh and the New Testament , generally. So, these two things come to mind when I think about the things we often get into and are called specious arguments, which Christians were instructed not to get into. Next, I think about the the story Nathan told David about the man whose little lamb, his only little lamb, was taken from him and eaten. It's horrible, but likewise so is taking the Land and all it's safety away from them. It's tiny, but it's precious. I understand minorities live in Israel, but I also see where Israel provides for them as many other nation states do with the meager amount of resources they have compared to some bigger countries. So, since there are Arab MKs in the Knesset I assume that these minorities ( Arab Muslim and Arab secular, and Arab Christian) will be represented equally and in consideration when the law is written and voted in. I think that is evidence itself of Israel on the right track to do things in the wellness interest of many. But I want to say something else, that is religious, and this is going to go right back to what I said earlier, if a person does G_d's Will, they are a Jew, and His Will written in His Word includes honoring Shabbats and high holy days right up until the earth is no more. It's written in the New Testament to be specific, Revelation.; written by John the Beloved, so to me it doesn't get any clearer. We can even see the lives of the prophets as they observed the feasts and obeyed G_d's every word, even when it came to them via His Hly Spirit. We are to put down our weapons and join arms with our brothers and sisters and celebrate our Father in Heaven. If you didn't follow me there on those references, Christians are supposed to according to the New Testament, follow and observe the shabbats, so shabbat culture, which is a significant part of Judaism, is something that Christians should be akin to,why isn't that happening? See, this wouldn't happen in eastern Orthodox Christian churches, so why is it happening in Israel? Why are we holding Israel to a set of standards we ourselves won't observe? When we know all there is to know then I guess we can be a judge of things like this, but my first response is to say~ we don't know what we're talking about until we are there and we are observing the feasts. Beyond that, it's a specious argument for Christians to get into, and the Knesset appears to be set up to handle fair discussions of the deal in this law. So, my hope is that Israel will solve Israel's problems, and international voices will let them. Opinions are fine, but international pressure and political punitive measures are not fine. They are not okay at all. You wouldn't want it done to you, why are you doing it to them? I am a Christian and I say Israel is Jewish, and I love that fact. I love it , love it, love it, No one's perfect, not me, not anyone, so I say "let them be".Isn't that what love is?
18. Israel is the country of and for Israelis.
Non Jewish immigrant ,   Haifa   (06.06.14)
Nothing more and nothing less. Israel belongs to Israelis. All of them.
19. Birdi - and thank god for that!

Birdi ,   Israel   (06.06.14)
LOL. So tell us, pretty please, what are you doing in Israel? You bash Israel & Israelis every at opportunity you have. Is that the way to show your appreciation of your host country? Nope, it aint.
21. Birdi, maybe I won't bashing Israelis
Non Jewish immigrant ,   Haifa   (06.06.14)
If they were ever stopping to oppose Jews and non Jews.
22. #21, Keep on bashing, buddy, you are doing a good job.
Michael ,   California, USA   (06.06.14)
Many Israelis don't like to look at themselves in the mirror and you provide them with a healthy feedback when they stay in the dark. But not all the Israelis are like that and many of us enjoy your cosmopolitan comments.
